In one of the other OP's Seven Churches-Why all the Ado?, rockytopva said that the seven churches represented seven ages all down through history and at this present time we are in the age of the Church Of Laodiceans... If that is true, then what benefit did that have on those suffering and persecuted Christians who first heard these letters?... NONE!... It was circulated among all of them but it was directed to each one specifically and the problems in each church... Same as today as any problems in any of the seven churches, could occur in ours... The Lord had commendation and condemnation... If you don't take care of the problem that I see, I will take care of it.

To me, to much emphasis has been in the problems of the church and there are many... The emphasis should be on the overcomer, the Lord commends the overcomer in every church, then and now...

To the church at Ephesus he says:

Revelation 2:7 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.

To the church at Smyrna he says:

Revelation 2:11 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.

To the church at Pergamos he says:

Revelation 2:17 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.

To the church at Thyatira he says:

Revelation 2:26 And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:

2:27 And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.

2:28 And I will give him the morning star.

2:29 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

To the church at Sardis he says:

Revelation 3:5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.

3:6 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

To the church at Philadelphia he says:

Revelation 3:12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.

3:13 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

To the church of the Laodiceans he says:

Revelation 3:21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.

3:22 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

To me, these commendation apply to all overcomers in all ages, not just in certain ages of church history and not representative just to one age but to all... To limit the churches mentioned just to one particular age of churches robs the overcomer of the blessing directed to all... The benefit to all churches is the overcomer, not the transgressor, who wreck havoc in all churches throughout all generation and if we do not deal the with the problems and them, the Lord will step in and take care of the problem for us... This should be a lesson for us all, when the Lord cleans his house, he does it his way... Brother Glen:)

    Indeed kyredneck.

Personally this to me is a one verse snapshot of the entire book of First John which gives definition to the title "the Son of God".

Who this "Son of God" is and what He has done for us.
When that realization overtakes us and our thinking then we have overcome the world.

He is Almighty eternal GOD come in the flesh to save us from our sins,

That command underlines the opening verses - the message is to all who read & hear - to obey!

While we do have our interpretation systems, they should not stand in the way of our obedience to Scripture.

Then there is the 8th promise cited in Revelation 21:7, ". . . He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. . . ."

And the Apostle John identifies who it is that overcomes in his letter, 1 John 5:4-5, ". . . For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? . . ."

The message is to those who have been made capable of 'hearing':

14 And if ye are willing to receive it, this is Elijah, that is to come.
15 He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
25 At that season Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou didst hide these things from the wise and understanding, and didst reveal them unto babes: Mt 11

    ...in the same vein as:

48 And as the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of God: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed. Acts 13

    ...or:

12 But we received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is from God; that we might know the things that were freely given to us of God.
14 Now the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him; and he cannot know them, because they are spiritually judged. 1 Cor 2

That just what was on my mind... The ecclesia or the called out are the church, in each and every believer... The inner man... This is not speaking of those with a natural ear but those who have a spiritual ones to hear... All men have natural but not all have spiritual ears... This is only to the regenerate man, the born again man... Brother Glen:)

No 37818 Surrender is a work but it FOLLOWS after SALVATION.
No person can surrender to GOD without the Spirit residing in him/her.

Hank, are you saying that you don't believe one ever surrenders before he/she is saved?

I mean personally, I don't see it as when God draws ...err, let's take this from a Calvinist perspective, ...when God forcefully drags His predestined picks kicking and screaming and hating God up to the point that then God has to rip out their heart and replace it to have to be the status quo before a man/woman begins to believe that the way he/she has been living in the world is not working and begins to surrender to God's drawing wherein he/she asks, seeks and finds God who is faithful to answer his/her prayers as per His promise and the knowing of Him (loving relationship) begins to transform their lives:

(Mat 7:7) Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
(Mat 7:8) For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

Again, the scriptures seem to suggest that one surrenders in order to confess and believe in "their" heart before they are saved:

(Rom 10:9) That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
(Rom 10:10) For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

As well as one surrenders in trust, after hearing the word of truth wherein after that he believed and then was sealed with the full impression of the image of God on their soul and the assurance of receiving the promise of salvation:

(Eph 1:13) In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

Because I would say one surrenders to God's drawing, and surrenders in his thinking that he doesn't need a relationship with God before he comes to the faith to believe and follow Him:

(Heb 11:6) But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Just a thought and curious about yours.

So surrender is not an action?
Where does the word of God say we must surrender to God prior in order to obtain a the gift to be saved?

    Huh??
If you place "surrender" as a requirement prior to salvation, then it is a false gospel of works salvation. Which is what I said.
