    mcdirector,

now thats how I think a man ought to be, and thats biblical... they should be the head of the house, because the Bible says so, but also it says to love your wives and so on.

Because I think it says they should love their wives like Jesus loves the church.

Kind of like where the bible says "children obey your parents" but then it also says "parents provoke not your children".

its a mutal respect thing, I think. Im a little bit confused about the woman speaking in church thing because the bible talks about women prophets...

Plus the PMS sermons would be awful, probably everyone in your neighborhood would be wondering why, for an entire week everyone in your household was behaving so well. (only kidding)

The "Baptist" umbrella covers everything from churches that are almost Catholic to pentecostal Baptists to KJVO Baptists... I think that asking this question here is quite reasonable.

I know that a woman is told to submit to her husband, but nowhere is the man told to make his wife submit.

But, the whole chauvenist thing came about, as someone else said, by not rightly dividing...

Im sorry about acting so weird but I re-injured by foot from a dancing injury 20 years ago. This time it isnt getting any better and for some reason I cant even sit down at a chair without nt foot turning purple and now my right foot is doing the same thing. Ive been having to lie down for weeks because lying flat is the only way mny feet stay "normal".

I went to a few orthopedic specialists but no bone injuries on the x ray. No blood clots either on the tests. My orthopedic doctor is doing tests on me but not till the 26th of April, meanwhile other foot had started doing the same thing. She said theres possible nerve damage.

Im so scared because it is progressing. sometimes I have to lie on my right side just to keep my left foot from turning purple. I cant imagine if my other foot progresses to the same point because I cant lie on mhy left side and right at the same time.

It turns purple and swells and feels like its going to almost burst and what if it gets to where it does it when Im laying down too?

My husband is always gone, In Ohio 3 days this week then New Orleans for a week, etc and I dont have a car. Ive almost had to call 911 a few times at night because it felt like myh hert was beating so hard...

anyway Ive been laying down so much I cant stand it anymore and so I have been just trying to post stuff on this baptist board to divert my mind from it all so I wont think about it and be scared all the time.

Im wondering if I shouold go see a vascular surgeon instead of this orthopedic doctor.

    Before its too late.

Im just posting stuff so I can diviert my mind off this, its hard lying here day after day alone... my mind starts maybe blowing things out of proportion, like I wonder if I will be like this for the rest of my life, etc...

I guess I just said the Chauvanist thing as a joke, I use stupid humor sometimes to divert my mind from all the stuff Ive been going through here lately.

I did come up with a foot doctor joke too, like, instead of a walk-in patient I could be a limp-in patient. Just trying to make myself laugh.

I am basically all alone through all of this. Then theres the whole other part of this thats happening to me at the same time, which is just as bad, that I wont bother you with... but its all just too much for me to take. especially since Im a big baby to start with anyway. I dont understand why these doctors are making me wait so long for them to do anything about this.

I just thought the Baptist Chauvanist thing was kind of funny and something different to talk about. No harm intended.

Actually, I have always thought of this Baptist Board as an exceptionally nice place and I'd be one to defend the Baptists if anyone said anything bad about you, even though I probably dont know much about you. I think you are a very nice group of people.

heres some stuff from my church that I just now looked up a minute ago. I wont post anymore than this... but these statements always seemed a little contradictory to me but I guess not, because its pretty much what the Bible says too.
I guess you have to hav the right balance with things...

The Adventist Home, page 115, paragraph 2
    Chapter Title: Mutual Obligations
Eve had been perfectly happy by her husband's side in her Eden home; but, like restless modern Eves, she was flattered with the hope of entering a higher sphere than that which God had assigned her. In attempting to rise above her original position, she fell far below it. A similar result will be reached by all who are unwilling to take up cheerfully their life duties in accordance with God's plan.

Letters to Young Lovers, page 48, paragraph 4
    Chapter Title: Looking for Help
The mother needs the help of her child, and when she will become a few years older, she will understand better how to choose a husband who will make her life smooth and happy. A woman who will submit to be ever dictated to in the smallest matters of domestic life, who will yield up her identity, will never be of much use or blessing in the world and will not answer the purpose of God in her existence. She is a mere machine, to be guided by another's will and another's mind. God has given each one, men and women, an identity, an individuality. All must act in the fear of God for themselves.
Mind, Character, and Personality Volume 1, page 154, paragraph 3

Chapter Title: Security in the Home
We have an individuality of our own, and the wife's individuality is never to be sunk into that of her husband. God is our Creator. We are His by creation, and we are His by redemption. We want to see how much we can render back to God, because He gives us the moral power, He gives us the efficiency, He gives us the intellect; and He wants us to make the most of these precious gifts to His name's glory.--MS 12, 1895.
Testimonies on Sexual Behavior, Adultery, and Divorce., page 28, paragraph 2
    Chapter Title: Marriage
We women must remember that God has placed us subject to the husband. He is the head, and our judgment and views and reasonings must agree with his, if possible. If not, the preference in God's Word is given to the husband where it is not a matter of conscience. We must yield to the head.--Letter 5, 1861.

    Hello Claudia,

If it is helpfull, here is the Seventh Day Baptist Statement of Belief.

    - Statement of belief

Seventh Day Baptists consider liberty of thought, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, to be essential to Christian belief and practice. We therefore encourage the unhindered study and open discussion of Scripture, and uphold the individual's freedom of conscience in seeking to understand and obey the will of God. It is for this reason that we have no binding creed.

We hold, however, that certain beliefs and practices, having the support of Scripture, and adhered to by the followers of Christ through the centuries, are binding upon all.

With this conviction in mind, we present the following brief statement, derived from our understanding of the Bible, as an expression of our common belief.

    2Cor. 3:17,18; 2Tim 2:15; 3:16,17; Rom 12:2; 10:17; Eph 4:3-6,15.

    We Believe
    1
    God

We believe in God, the Supreme Being; personal, perfect infinite, spiritual, eternal; the Creator, Sustainer and Sovereign of the universe; our Heavenly Father who manifests a holy redeeming love towards all mankind, forgiving the repentant, condemning the unrepentant; and who desires to share His love in a personal relationship with everyone.

    Gen 1:1,2; Isa 25:1-9; Ps 90:1,2; 91:2; John 4:24; 5:24; 3:16-18; I Tim 1:17; Deut 6:4-9; 1 Kings 8:27; 1 John 1:5; Acts 17:24,25,28; 2 Peter 3:9; 1 Cor 8:6; Eph 4:6; Ezek 33:11; 2 Thess 1:6-8.
    2
    Jesus Christ

We believe in Jesus Christ, God manifest in the flesh, Our Saviour, Teacher and Guide who gave Himself on the Cross as a complete and final sacrifice for sin, and draws to Himself all who will come to Him in love and trustful obedience. As our risen Lord, He is the one Mediator between us and the Father.

    John 1:14-18,34; 3:16; 12:32; 14:6; Heb 1:3; Rom 1:3-5; 1 John 3:16; 2:1,2; Gal 4:4-6; 1 Peter 2:24; Heb 10:10-14; 1 Cor 15:20-23; 1 Tim 2:5; Eph 1:18-23.
    3
    The Holy Spirit

We believe in the Holy Spirit, God dwelling within; the Inspirer of Scripture, the Comforter, active in the hearts and minds and lives of mankind; who convicts of sin, gives spiritual rebirth, instructs in righteousness, and empowers for witnessing and service.

    John 14:16,17,26; 16:7-14; Acts 1:8; Rom 5:5; 2 Peter 1:20,21; 1 Cor 12:4-11.
    4
    The Bible

We believe that the Bible is the inspired record of God's will for mankind- the Word of God, of which Jesus Christ is the supreme Interpreter, and that it is our final authority in matters of faith and practice.

    2 Tim 3:14-17; 2 Peter 1:20,21; 3:1,2,15,16; Heb 4:12; 1:1,2; John 20:30,31; Rom 3:2; Matt 5:17-19; Ps 119:105.
    5
    Mankind

We believe that mankind was created in the image of God, and is therefore the noblest work of creation. We also believe that human beings have moral responsibility, and are created to enjoy both Divine and human fellowship as children of God.

    Gen 1:26,27: Ps 8:3-8; Micah 6:8; Matt 5:44-48.
    6
    The Ten Commandments

We believe that the Ten Commandments are ten divine precepts- applications of the eternal and universal principle of love; established by God, and given to mankind at creation, written by His 'finger' at Mt. Sinai, and magnified by Jesus Christ, and shown by Him to be the moral code for all mankind.

    Gen 2:2; 4:8-13; Ex 20:1-17; Matt 19:16-19; Deut 6:5,6; Matt 22:36-39; 5:28; James 2:8-12.
    7
    The Sabbath

We believe that the Sabbath of the Bible, the seventh day of the week (Saturday), is sacred time, a gift of God, instituted at creation, affirmed in the Ten Commandments, and re-affirmed by Jesus and the apostles. We also believe that, in loving response to God's grace toward us, as revealed in Christ, the Sabbath should be faithfully observed as a day of rest and worship, and that it is a reminder of God's presence in time- His pledge of eternal rest in the paradise of God.

    Gen 2:2,3; Ex 16:23-30; 20:8-11; Mark 2:27,28; Luke 4:16; Acts 13:14,42-44; 16:11-13; 17:2,3; 18:4-11; John 14:15; Matt 5:17-19; Isa 58:13,14; Ezek 29:19,20; Heb 4:9,10.
    8
    Sin and Salvation

We believe that sin is the transgression of the law - disobedience to God, and failure to live according to His will. All who refuse to repent of their sins, and receive Christ as their Saviour will be punished at the time of the final judgement. We also believe that salvation from sin and death is the gift of God by redeeming love, accomplished by Christ's death and resurrection, and is received only by repentance and faith in Him.

    1John 1:3,8-10; 3:4,5; John 1:12; 3:16-18,38; 14:6; Rom 3:21-25; 5:5-19; 6:23; Eph 2:8,9; 2 Thess 1:5-9; Rev 20:11-15; Isa 59:2; Heb 9:10-14; 1 Peter 1:3; Matt 25:41:46.
    9
    Eternal Life

We believe that eternal life, being conditional, is available to us only through our Saviour Jesus Christ, and is granted on one's acceptance of salvation in Him who, having conquered death, will gather together, not only those who have died righteous, but also the living righteous, and will bestow upon them immortality in glorified bodies, at His return in heavenly power and glory.

    John 3:14-16; 6:40; 10:27,28; 17:1-3; 14:1-3; Rom 6:23; 5:14- 17,6-11; Luke 24:1-6; Matt 28:1-8; 23:12,13,30; 25:31-34,46: 1 Cor 15:20-22,42-44,53-54; 1 John 5:11-13; Col 3:1-4; 1 Thess 4:13-18; Titus 2:13.
    10
    Baptism

We believe the baptism of believers, by immersion, is a command of Christ, being a witness to, and the consummation of one's acceptance of Him as Saviour and Lord, and is a symbol of death to sin, and rebirth to a new life in Christ.

    Matt 28:19,20; Rom 6:3,4,11; Acts 2:38-41; Col 2:12; 1 Peter 3:21; Gal 3:26,27.
    11
    The Lord's Supper

We believe that the Lord's Supper commemorates the suffering and death of our Redeemer until He comes, and that it is a symbol of our union with Christ, and a pledge of renewed allegiance to our risen Lord.

    Mark 14:22-25; 1 Cor 10:16,17; 11:23-30: Matt 26:26-29.
    12
    The Church

We believe that the church of God is all redeemed believers gathered together by the Holy Spirit and joined into one body, of which Christ is the Head. We also believe that the local church is a community of believers organised in covenant relationship for worship, fellowship and service, practising and proclaiming common convictions, while growing in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. We believe in the priesthood of all believers and practise the autonomy of the local congregation, as we seek to work in association with others for more effective witness.

    Acts 20:28; 2:42; 1 Cor 12:13,14,27; Col 1:18; Rom 12:4,5; 15:5-7; 1 Peter 2:4-10; Matt 18:20; Eph 2:19-22; 4:11-16; 2 Peter 3:18; Heb 10:24,25.
    13
    Evangelism

We believe that the church's chief aim is as Jesus commissioned us: to proclaim the Gospel of Salvation and of the Kingdom: making disciples, baptising and teaching them to observe all that He has commanded: witnessing to our faith throughout the world and to every person.

    Matt 28:18-20; 24:14; Acts 1:8; 2 Cor 4:1,2,5,6; 5:17-20; Ps 96:2,3; 1 Peter 3:15,16; Eph 6:14-20; Mark 16:15.

    Hi Ben,

It looks like you have pretty much the same beliefs as we do. Do all Baptists have basically the same beliefs exept for on the sabbath issue?

Also, when you say you believe that we will get an immortal body, etc, at the second coming of Christ, do Seventh Day Baptists believe that when you die though, you either go right to heaven or hell?

Im just curious if your beliefs are the same as ours in that respect. Because we believe we stay "asleep" in the grave till the resurrection.

Do all Baptists believe that you have to repent of sin, or do some of them think that all you have to do is believe in Christ?

We believe in Baptism by immersion too.

As we currently stand Claudia, there are some 148 different Baptist Denominations, although a number of them are in a larger grouping called the Baptist World Alliance which brings together a number of Baptist groups including Seventh Day Baptists.

I believe that you go to heaven in your next waking moment once you die, and that is because I belive that God can exist outside of time, and outside of the speed of light. Tony Campolo brings this up in one of his books that we believe as people that it is impossible to travel faster than the speed of light, yet God is there. As a result in the ressurection we to are outside of the speed of light, and knowlege of the passing of time could in theory cease to exist.

The Seventh Day Adventist Church recently met with the Salvation Army to disuss what they have in common theologically. One of the major things that they both had in common, is that both accept the Arminian Teachings of Charles Wesley and claim a liniage to early Methodism.

As a result, the SDA is classed as being Arminian in its nature. Your closest Baptist Church to that is the "Freewill Baptist" who although they meet on a Sunday and dont have soul sleep as a written doctrine of the church, do have many other theological things in common with the SDA.

Then you have the Baptist Denominations which are the opposite and accept the teachings of John Calvin who as Calvinists are the opposite of Arminian Baptists.

Repentance is an interesting question, my best answer is that most Baptists reject what they call "Easy Believism". So as a result the Baptist tends to focus on the relationship that they have with God, and in order to get there, it is my assumption that Repentance would have to be a natural part of comming into a relationship with God.

    Ben,

Wow, that seems strange to me that some Baptists would believe in the freewill and others dont, that to me is dfferent as night and day. So its like the Baptism by immersion is the only real thing holding them together as far as what they have in common and what makes them unique from the other churches, I guess.

In our denomination we have the Historic SDAs wno hold to the early original teachings and then we have the Liberal SDAs (they dont really have a "name" they are called I guess, so I just call them Liberal). They have what we call the "New Theology" which in my opinion basically waters down and gets rid of our old historic "Landmarks" and makes it where they really arent even true Seventh Day Adventists anymore.

The Historic SDAs believe that Jesus took upon Himself our sinful human nature yet overcame all sin and was without sin. He felt all the temptations we do but came as a human being and oversame all sin and all of that. (not in any way do we believe Jesus was a sinner, people seem to misunderstand that)...

Romans 8:3: For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
4: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Heb:2:16: For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham.

Heb:4:15: For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

The idea is that because Jesus became a man and with sinful human flesh overcame all sin, He by doing that "condemned sin in the flesh" and showed us that as human beings we too can overcome sin by faith, as Jesus did.

We Historic SDAs view that as one big difference between Protestantism and Roman Catholicism because Catholics teach that since Jesus was born of Virgin Mary He didnt have a sinful human nature (or something like that, not sure how to explain it)... anyway because of this basic teaching, the Liberal Adventists end up teaching that "all you have to do is have a relationship with Jesus and everything is ok" "works dont really matter" and so on.

But anyway, then eventually, because our church was being labeled a "cult" by Walter Martin and others, our church leaders went and watered down that teaching, and then suddenly we werent viewed as a cult anymore.

Thats the basic difference beween the two "types" of Seventh Day Adventists.

..and of course the Liberal SDAs end up throwing out much of the teachings of EG White since she really does rebuke sin alot and they dont appreciate that...

Its interesting to me to see the different views on things churches have.

Ellen White was a Methodist to start with so thats probably where they got the Methodist lineage thing from.
