I saw that too. It was a mistake, you did not say this, it was Bob. He must think that only the SDAs study the OT.

Now sister [IMG] You can see that I posted very sound arguments. You are just caught up in a false prophet. Ellen did not even claim to be a prophet, did she? I think others just made her one. This is what many people do because they need someone to interpret the scriptures for them. The RCC has the popes, it is no different. Your church just has one pope(although deceased).

Lots o' "feeelings" in that statement - no facts.

At some point it would be good to see you embrace a little "sola scriptura" on this point. Since you are avoiding the text of scripture here - I will post it "again".

Steaver here we see that the "THEY" in this case "eat mice" and "destable things" (like bats, cats, horse and rats?) - they not only worship false gods - they also EAT these "destible things".

You seek to "spin" this AS IF the ONLY thing they are said to "DO" in this text is "worship false Gods" -- lets READ this text "sola scriptura" and SEE if the ONLY thing mentioned is the worship of false gods.

    Please note the "inconvenient details"

The Lord comes "in fire" as we see in Rev 19-20 (as we see in 2Thess 1, 2 Peter 3)

#1. Future judgment as we see in Rev 20.
#2. Rendered by fire as we see in REv 20.
#3. Rendered on ALL flesh - ALL mankind as we see in Rev 20. "All nations"
#4. ALL nations gathered before God for judgment as we see in Jude and in Rev 20.

Why read this if you are simply going to turn a blind eye to it?

Do you consider it "wrong" for a Christian to refuse to ignore this text of scripture?

In Isaiah 66:15-18 we see those who rebel against God in violation of God's Word expressed in the first commandment given in Exodus 20 and in violation of God's Word found in Lev 11 regarding rats, cats, dogs and bats etc.

The attempt has been made here to say "pay no attention to that" as if this clear example of rebellion against God is "not to be a lesson to us".

How can that be right people? How can anyone take a "sola scriptura" approach to Isaiah 66:15-18 by simply "ignoring" what it says?

    Please note the "inconvenient details"

15 He was granted power to give breath to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak and cause as many as would not worship the image of the beast to be killed. 16 He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, 17 and that no one may BUY or SELL except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

I know about May 7 - and it seems like "a good thing". But where is the information to support the "national sunday law" statement connected to May 7?

It is as plain as the nose on your face! You can spin it out of context all day long and cast the spin theology towards me if you like, but the "inconvienent fact" remains....

" They that sanctify themselves "

Christians do not eat pork to sanctify themselves!

Painfully obvious to you I am sure, but Ellen said so and she cannot be wrong because afterall she was the SDA one and only pope!

    Steve,

I hate to say it but you are beginning to sound pretty pathetic with all your comments about Ellen White. Bob has done nothing but post Bible verses to you.

You dont seem like an honest guy to me anymore. If you were, you wouldnt feel the need to keep resorting to that. You would just plain give scripture verses to support your position. I am losing respect for you.

Your continued cracks about Ellen White just makes it painfully obvious that you dont have enough scripture to back up your position and so you have to resort to this stupidity.

You know good and well that Bob an Kamaroso and I have all posted Bible verses for our positions.

Steaver, I hardly think that many SDA people refer to Ellen G White as the Pope, or as the Pope is termed by Roman Catholics - The Vicar of Christ.

The Pope is perpetual in the Catholic church and is regarded as God's living representative on earth. For the SDA to have a Pope, they would have to constantly have someone that is alive that they thought of as the Vicar of Christ.

The text did not say "They sanctify themselves BY EATING RATS" (as you seem to hope in order to spare those who wish to eat rats but still need to find a way to do so without "Sanctifying themselves"?? How odd is that twist of yours Steaver? Looking for "pure rat eating" apart from "sanctifying themselves"??? How odd Steaver - odd indeed!)

True. I was refering to the fact that popes are the final authority for interpretation just as Ellen White is for the SDA.

    Steve,

You dont understand the main role of a prophet. The role of the old testament prophets was not to give new light but to point the people back to the light already given that had been neglected.

The warnings, admonitions, were to arouse God's people to recall what God had already told them.

    Maranatha, page 44, paragraph 2
    Chapter Title: An Infallible Guide
"We all need a guide through the many strait places in life as much as the sailor needs a pilot over the sandy bar or up the rocky river, and where is this guide to be found? We point you . . . to the Bible. Inspired of God, written by holy men, it points out with great clearness and precision the duties of both old and young. It elevates the mind, softens the heart, and imparts gladness and holy joy to the spirit. The Bible presents a perfect standard of character; it is an infallible guide under all circumstances, even to the end of the journey of life. Take it as the man of your counsel, the rule of your daily life. . . ." -EG White

    at her funeral:

Life Sketches of Ellen G. White, page 471, paragraph 3
Chapter Title: The Funeral Services at Battle Creek
"No Christian teacher in this generation, no religious reformer in any preceding age, has placed a higher value upon the Bible. In all her writings it is represented as the book of all books, the supreme and all-sufficient guide for the whole human family. Not a trace of 'higher criticism,' 'new thought,' nor skeptical, destructive philosophy can be found in any of her writings. Those who still believe that the Bible is the inspired, infallible word of the living God will value most highly the positive, uncompromising support given this view in the writings of Mrs. White.

But you know that you just keep saying that about Ellen White to try to bother me and upset me.

    Its just enough, already.

of course I guess if you dont understand that God made the rules that He did because He wanted to protect us from disease, then you wont understand that concept, I guess.

Its not like God just sat around dreaming up new rules for the heck of it.

You know, like it wasnt a very smart thing to do in old testament times to steal from someone or to kill them or to commit adultery with their wife, and hey! its not a good idea to do that nowadays either!

Claudia, Bob, sorry for the delay in responding. Weekend trip with some friends.

Claudia, again, I see where you're coming from, and I certainly agree with the idea of being health-conscious and that God knows what is best for us. However, I am a bit concerned when I read things like, "Let's try looking at the same passage but only from Matthew 15." The reason that concerns me is that the approach seems to disregard what Jesus clearly said in the Mark passage, supported in the other passages I cited. How can you reconcile the fact that Jesus does declare all meats "purged" with your view?

The idea? No. I believe He was getting rid of the law of not eating swine's flesh. There are things that are permissible to me, but not beneficial to me.

Bob, I'd like to point out that I'm not attempting to "nullify" the Word of God, but merely to see it as a whole, and when I look at it as a whole, I see passages (many of which I cited in previous posts) that seem to tell me that we am no longer bound by dietary laws. Also, Jesus called all meets purged in the Mark passage. I believe He broadened the context of the discussion to include all meats (or foods), mainly because He said "all meats." So did he mean it when He declared all meats purged or not?

Concerning the Acts 10 passage, God told Peter to kill and eat animals that, under the Old Covenant, were unclean. He was using that exercise to teach Peter a lesson, yet there is a crucial question which must be addressed: was God commanding Peter to sin in order to teach him a lesson? I don't believe so. In fact, I believe just the opposite: that God's command to "slay and eat" was NOT sin.

I don't believe either of you have yet addressed the other passages I have cited which I believe support the view I hold.

I look forward to continuing this discussion with you.

    Michael
