A favorite text Bible

I have the same Bible in Calf Skin. The quality is unbelievable.

 

Nothing compares to a fine leather Bible for quality and endurance.

Just where in scripture does it say to judge a book by its cover? Or external appearance. MLK might have said to judge by the content of its character rather the color of its skin. The goal of study is to change our lives, and the lives of others, not to change the text to conform to our presumptions. Jesus rejected those who looked "good" on the outside, but not so much on the inside.

 

A hardback TBS Classic Reference Bible, which is not all that elaborate and very traditional looking (8pt bold/semi-bold Roman-type); yet I think this is it's strength. [Classic Reference Bible (hardcover) - Black [4/ABK] - Trinitarian Bible Society - USA]

Why judge a book by it's cover? Because some designs are hideous and practically illegible for long hours of reading.
Not to mention that the Bible is a Holy Book, (the only one) and needs to be represented with sanctity in mind.
As for judging by external appearance, haven't you read Leviticus? Just one example of outward appearances has to do with God's priests needing to properly present themselves before God. No priest could casually present themselves before God. And as we have the word of God, then shouldn't we present it and adorn it respectfully?

If printers did not care about proper judgment of readability, we'd all have Comic Sans Bibles; like all those weirdos who may have theologically interesting websites and yet their main font is yellow Comic Sans on a neon blue background.

Although I have not studied Leviticus, I very much doubt the veracity of your application.

I enjoy giant print, single column Bibles, with headings, and paragraphs. I also much prefer Bibles that do not have the words of Christ in red!

 

I’ve been collecting some of the important editions over the years.
This one will be the only one that cost some change but it’s beautifully preserved.
I’m able to restore those that need it and even rebind them if it comes to it.
I’ve got about ten dating back to a 1901 Nestle edition printed opposite a German text and published in 1904.
This Nestle Greek New Testament is the 1903, third edition (now in the 28th edition).

Um, first, you are taking things out of context. That's talking about judging PEOPLE and has nothing to do with books.

My library is small, less than 700 books, limited to about 7 bookcases.

I weed out books regularly and donate the discards to my church or a used bookstore.

Oddly enough when I changed churches about 15 years ago the pastor of the new church found some books in his library with my name in them.

Some of the books in my collection only have special meaning to me and wouldn’t mean much to another. For example, I have a full bookcase of fiction, much of it related to theological thought in some obtuse way. I like science fiction!

When I pass on, some will be donated to the church, others will be Ebay’ed.

My digital collection dwarfs my collection and will be passed on to a young scholarly pastor.
