ROME - Pope Francis appeared to flatly reject proposals in some theological circles to add “co-redemptrix” to the list of titles of the Virgin Mary, saying the mother of Jesus never took anything that belonged to her son, and calling the invention of new titles and dogmas “foolishness.”

“She never wanted for herself something that was of her son,” Francis said. “She never introduced herself as co-redemptrix. No. Disciple,” he said, meaning that Mary saw herself as a disciple of Jesus.

Mary, the pope insisted, “never stole for herself anything that was of her son,” instead “serving him. Because she is mother. She gives life.”

That contradicts John Paul II who said that Mary was a co redemptrix

    Two things...

First, in Latin, the prefix "co" does not mean equal.

Secondly, this should come as no surprise, since it was also the opinion of Francis’ predecessor, Pope Benedict. Here are his reasons...

"I do not think there will be any compliance with this demand [to declare Mary as the Co-redemptrix], which in the meantime is being supported several million people, within the foreseeable future. The response of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith is, broadly that what is signified by this already better expressed in other titles of Mary, while the formula 'Co-redemptrix' departs to too great an extent from the language of Scripture and of the Fathers and therefore gives rise to misunderstandings.

"What is true here? Well, it is true that Christ does not remain outside us or to one side of us, but builds a profound and new community with us. Everything that is his becomes ours, and everything that is ours he has taken upon himself, so that it become his: this great exchange is the actual content of redemption, the removal of limitations from our self and its extension into the community with God. Because Mary is the prototype of the Church as such and is, so to say, the Church in person, this being 'with' is realized in her in exemplary fashion. But this 'with' must not lead us to forget the 'first' of Christ. Everything comes from him as the Letter to the Ephesians and the Letter to the Colossians, in particular, tell us; Mary too, is everything that she is through him.

"The word 'Co-redemptrix' would obscure this origin. A correct intention is being expressed in the wrong way. For matters of faith, continuity of terminology with the language of Scripture and that of the Fathers is itself an essential element; it is improper simply to manipulate language."

Even though he has said some crazy things in the past, I like his clarification on this particular subject.

LOOK, take my word for it, i was raised a Catholic, i hate to even form these words but the church of Rome has turned the earthly mother of our LORD into a kind of something that she is not.

She is Jesus mother after His human nature the seed of Abraham.

I love Mary, she is my sister in the LORD and she suffered many things which she was glad to do to glorify the Triune God.

But i cant worship her - not even to the extent allowed by the church of Rome, she is not a goddess to be prayed to and hear the millions of petitions of the faithful as if she were omnipresent and many other errors taught in her name.

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men,
    whereby we must be saved.

    Revelation 20:v.1-3
1 And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.
2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,
3 And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more,...

    Daniel 12:v.1-3 & 10-12
1And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.
2 And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.
3 And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.

10 Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.

11 And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days. - 1,290 days
12 Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days. - 1.335 days - 45 days after the end of AD - This day 1.335 - 45 days after the end of Abomination of Desolation - it is the most wonderfull day in the history of mankind, except the day of Jesus's birth.

    Matthew 24:v.15
15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand)

So at one time Christians were encouraged to make war on each other and now none of us are encouraged to do such a thing. Amazing how that works.

This just proves the church, especially the Pope, are not infallible.

This shows your ignorance of what infallibility is regarding. Pick up a book and educate yourself before embarrassing yourself.

No I'm very well aware that Catholics pick and choose when infallibility actually occurs. But that doesn't change the fact is that the Scriptures do not afford infallibility to Popes or Church.

Again, Scripture does not afford the notion of papal infallibility. The only time the Pope is infallible is when he is reading Scripture verbatim.
