In the thread The Bible at your fingertips, the subject of the Pure Cambridge Edition Bible came up. For example:
I had never heard of this, so did a little searching. According to one site supportive of the King James Version Bible, the Pure Cambridge Edition is “an out-of-print Cambridge text [circa 1900], determined to be ‘pure’ by Mr. Verschuur, a young and ambitious Pentecostal man from Australia.” They commend his research as “fairly exhaustive” but go on to say that his conclusions that the Cambridge text he uses is superior to other Cambridge texts cannot be defended, and that when he can’t defend his points, “he relies on his ‘Pentecostal’ experiences to defend them.” They say this “Pentecostal defense” is found in his book, Guide to the Pure Cambridge Edition of the King James Bible.

Matthew Verschuur has a website called Bible Protector where he promotes the Pure Cambridge Bible. This site links to Victory Faith Centre in South Geelong, Victoria, Australia – so I am assuming that is his church.

Matthew Verschuur’s “Statement to all King James Bible (KJB) supporters concerning the Pure Cambridge Edition (PCE)” can be found HERE.
Thought I'd relay what I found. Some of you are probably quite familiar with this edition and claim, but others of you were probably like me, in the dark.

As I understood it a few years ago, Craig Savige was pastor (or head elder) of this church Victory Faith Centre or was perhaps co-pastor with his wife Samantha Savige although Craig Savige, Samantha Savige, and Matthew Verschuur were all listed as its elders.

Matthew Verschuur did have a list of a very few renderings (six to eight) that he considered the text to determine whether a KJV edition was supposedly the pure Cambridge edition.

There is a list of 12 at the bottom of the “Statement to all King James Bible (KJB) supporters concerning the Pure Cambridge Edition (PCE)” page:

Twelve individual renderings in an entire KJV edition are not enough to determine which edition is better or more accurate.

A KJV edition could have a poorer rendering or even an error in a different place, and yet it would supposedly still be a "pure Cambridge edition" according to his limited, inadequate list.

I didn't say his list proves anything. Just responding to your saying he had a list, and pointing out where one is.

    Logos1560,
If memory serves me, a few years ago you made several lengthy posts about the various editions of published KJV Bibles. I am not asking you to repeat those posts because that must have been a lot of work for you. However, it would be nice to find and read them once again. Do you have the thread forum and titles handy?

Is the rendering in the claimed "Pure Cambridge edition" at 1 Chronicles 2:55 more consistent, better, accurate, faithful to the preserved Scriptures in the original languages than all other KJV editions?

    1 Chronicles 2:55 [Hammath--1560 Geneva; Hemath--1602 Bishops] [see Josh. 19:35--same Hebrew word]

    Hemeth [1775 Cambridge]

Hammath [1985 Cambridge, 1953 Pitt Minion, Cambridge Standard Text Edition, 1972, 2011 Cameo, 2011 Pitt Minion Reduced] (2010 Local Church Bible Publishers) (Norton Critical Edition)

    Hamath [1648, 2005, 2011 Cambridge] (2006 Penguin)

Hemath (1769 Oxford, SRB) [1629, 1769 Cambridge, DKJB]

Matthew Verschuur does not actually demonstrate that the edition of the KJV that he compiled and calls the "pure" one is actually most consistent and best in its capitalization or non-capitalization of "spirit." Does he in effect imply that the many KJV editions that differ from the one he advocates have impurities in the places where they differ?

Perhaps it is more internally consistent, but not necessarily better or more accurate. The obsession with spelling consistency seems to be fairly recent. English spellings have been quite fluid across the years. Even today, English (England) and American spellings often reflect minor differences.
That seems to be exactly what he is implying. Calling one's own edition "pure" implies that everyone else's editions are "impure." If one had the time and inclination to read his writings, one might find he does more than just imply it.

There are many odd branches to the KJVO family tree. There are several churches that claim to reprint only the "pure" edition. There are some who claim that any edition that has Savior instead of Saviour is bogus (on a point of biblical numerology), and a church has printed a Spanish version translated from the KJV instead of from the original languages, the Jaime Rey version.

I guess odd is ultimately in the eye of the beholder. Many think I'm an odd duck. But, yes, it becomes really fractured when various members of the King James Only community are each clamoring for their own pure KJV Bible and not another. A year or so ago I ran across a person named or aka Nic Kizziah who was warning Believers to Beware of Counterfeit King James Bibles. Part of his MO was to trash the "six-letter Savior." For my trouble of pointing out some of his errors I was accused of working for one of the big publishing companies. :Laugh
The concept doesn't surprise me, but the name sounds like a joke. Are you for real?

No kidding. I did research maybe 10 years ago and there's not a lot left on the Web, but Doug Kutilek did considerable research that's still around.

That Spanish translation of the KJV was only of the New Testament. I have a facsimile/photocopy reprint of it.

This translation was made by Bernard McVey, who is said to have been a Baptist missionary to Central America, and only 1000 copies of it were said to have been originally printed by Pilgrim Baptist Church in Abingdon, Virginia. The reprint that I have was made by Breaker's Publications www.rrb3.com

One place where Cambridge and other KJV editions differ is at Exodus 23:23.

Exodus 23:23 [see also Deut. 20:17, Josh. 24:11]

Here is a list of some places were a Pitt Minion Cambridge edition of the KJV may differ from a Concord Cambridge edition of the KJV. I saw at least one Pitt Minion Cambridge KJV edition that seemed to follow the Concord Cambridge edition text so all Pitt Minion editions may not have these differences.

    Exodus 23:23

    2 Samuel 15:12 counseller-----------counsellor

    1 Chronicles 2:55 Hammath-----Hemath

    1 Chronicles 13:5 Hamath----Hemath

    Ezra 7:14 counsellers-----counsellors

    Amos 6:14 Hamath------Hemath

    Acts 3:7 ancle--------ankle

    Acts 11:12 spirit-----Spirit

    Acts 11:28 spirit------Spirit

    Acts 19:39 inquire-----enquire

    Rom. 11:34 counseller---------counsellor

    1 Pet. 1:10 enquired-------inquired

Do you have the actual title of this Bible? I got the impression from what I found last night of Kutilek's writing that Jaime Rey or Rey Jaime was his nickname for it.

Matthew is a rabid KJVO who's often meen proven wrong by myself & others on other sites. He calls himself "Bibleprotector".

He's also an aspiring author who hopes someone will publish his KJVO and "PCE" garbage.

BTW, I have a Cambridge Edition KJV, & it has the same goofs & booboos found in other KJV editions.

According to the reprint, on the original title page the following is stated:

El Nuevo Testament de Nuestro Senor Y Salvador Jesu Christo
Biblica Autorizada Del Rey Jaime 1611

The reprint's has an additional title page before this one and it is as follows:

    El Nuevo Testamento De McVey

Un facsimile del Nuevo Testamento hizo por Bernard McVey

    Lo que el llamo
    La Biblia Autorizada
traducida directamenta de la Rey Jaime en Ingles

Thanks! When I was searching for Jaime Rey Tuesday night, I could have sworn that I got one hit with something like “autorizada del rey Jacobo.” I did not look at it at the time and have not found it since (i.e., when searching for “Jaime Rey;” I can find it by searching for those words). Anyway, I was curious if “Jacobo” was anywhere in the title or on the title page of McVey’s book. Apparently not. Thanks again.
