Resources for Prayer?

Yes. The Valley of Vision. It is a collection of Puritan prayers. Banner of Truth has a website where you can read the prayers if you do not want to purchase them.

The Puritans had a practice of writing out their prayers. They did this because writing engaged the individual's mind as it takes more thought than speaking. Of course, a Puritan would bristle at the suggestion that their prayers should be prayed out loud as part of some mantra. I think it is a good idea to use them for personal edification in addition to your prayer life.

 

I do not have a manuscript for prayer but I do have my personal prayer guide.

First, what is your purpose in your prayer time?

Is it just to do your duty and say your prayers for the day? Maybe you could make this as much about worship as it is making needs, concerns, and everything else known.

Second, what is your expectation?

Is it just that your prayer get said and hopefully they get answered later? Maybe you could raise your expectations and expect you will hear from God at that moment of prayer. Do you expect to experience the power and presence of God in your prayers? Why not? God's power and presence may be revealed as He fills you with His Spirit and reveals to you not only the answer to your prayer but likely even more than you ask.

Third, do you know that what your praying for is the will of God?

Have you consulted scripture to discover where God is on a particular prayer request? Use scripture as your guide not only for God's will but how you say your requests. This will accompany your worshipful spirit and give you more confidence in your requests.

Begin by recognizing who God is. You will discover when you read the many prayers of the Saints in scripture this is how it is always done. The Psalms are a great resource for doing this as is other places in scripture.

Next, continue in prayer by being thankful. In Philippians we are told to pray with thanksgiving.

Next, continue on with intercessory prayer. Before we think of ourselves we should first think of others. This keeps us from being selfish in prayer and I believe is the very Spirit of Christ. We all have our own lists of people to pray for but one resource is blesseveryhome.com. In it you can find a map of your neighborhood and the names of the people who own the homes and be given a daily prayer list. It also has some other resources in it.

Lastly, prayer for yourself. This is just as important as all the other prayers. Have a list of needs, desires, areas of needed growth etc.

Expect to walk away from your prayer time renewed, excited, having heard from God, and having gained a greater understanding of God and those your prayed for.
