For starters, the Holy Spirit is not a magic genie who grants your every wish.

    Misconception
That the Holy Spirit saves men when actually that authority belongs to Christ alone.

Having come out of the terrible deception called Pentecostal/Charismatic Christianity. I have a few burned into me by now.

The Holy Spirit's presence is given in a pleasurable emotion.

The Holy Spirit is a genie or Santa Claus wanting you to have all your wants and dreams.

The Holy Spirit gives fallible prophecies that don't come true or don't reflect reality.

The Holy Spirit only works in very specific ways such as through so called deliverance ministry or "power" evangelism. Stuff that seems spell-like and thus occult.

The Holy Spirit is raising apostles in these times despite Paul calling himself the last apostle, one untimely born.

The Holy Spirit does not primarily testify about Jesus Christ and convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment.

The Holy Spirit does not deliver the very words of Christ.

You can get drunk in the Spirit as if self-control isn't a fruit of the Spirit.

More lies I hear about the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit isn't a person.

    The Holy Spirit isn't God.

The Holy Spirit does not change you when He indwells you, especially in relation to sinning.

That he is not God, that He still gives all gifts same way as in Acts, and that he gives to us the ole "Baptism in the Holy Ghost", evidenced to tongues and wonders! also, that He is still giving forth fresh and new revelations today!

They tend to see the Holy Spirit as analogous to "The Force" in the Star Wars movies, and generally don't even realize the Spirit is the Third Person of the Triune God.

    That he is an "it".

    That he isn't God.

One aspect of him is what Jesus talked about; that "he will not testify of himself." I've heard of "holy ghost rallies" put on by Pentecostals and others, and it may or may not be deduced that these are events where it is claimed the spirit directs followers to his own gifts and manifestation. IOW living as a Christian is all about miraculous gifts. But that defies the words of Jesus about the holy spirit. But OTOH did the Spirit not inspire the Word, through which we know of him? If so, did he testify of himself in that way?
