    For a formal equivalence translation, the ESV certainly issues a lot of updates!

    Its an "essentially formal " translation, and its main problem is tries to read as well as Niv, and to be as accurate as Nas, but stuck in between!

    KJV: "the Lord"
    NKJV: "the Lord"

    The literary consultants were not trying to make it read like the NIV. They wanted the feel of the KJV while being as accurate as possible.

    I'm about a third of the way through it. We've been doing studies on individuals at the Friday night Bible study I attend, and we're currently on Solomon. I was asked to read out of Proverbs chapter 4, and it was a little clunky.

    Compared to others such as the NASB,NIV and NLT, the ESV certainly in regards to rythm, prose poetry, vocabulary level and aphoristic quality is much more KJV like.

    true, as that is what was a saving grace for it, as it does read like modernized Kjv in many ways.

    I have fond memories of a Ryrie Study Bible, New Testament (hardcover edition) in the 1977 NASB that I had. (Don't know what became of it.) Fantastic resource!

    I'm almost afraid to purchase an ESV in book form, because if they publish another update in four years or whatever, I'll be a little frustrated! Lol

    "Lean the mud off" huh? You need to honor God's Word, not demean it. There may be American Indian tribes with translations that are far inferior, to English Bible translations --but they are still God's Holy Word.

    Indeed, I do believe it may even bring us very close to a line we do not wish to cross: namely, blasphemy.
