    You can listen to pastors but because they are men and with the likely hood to make mistakes. Is it wise to just take them at there word?. With out comparing what they say with scripture. This is why Catholics are so messed up. Praying to Mary and the saints. There is only one mediator and that of course is Jesus Christ . You see it is men who made up the idea to go over Jesus' head and ask His mother when is reality Mary isn't above Christ she is not a deity at all. Blessed among women this is true yet she has no authority. I believe we have to remember that Satan is prowling around looking for someone to devour. Satan has you when you believe the lies published by men who claim what they say is biblical.

    Sproul Holiness of God, Tozer Knowledge of the Holy, and it's not a book but a study Bible the Ryrie Study Bible.

    Those have been the most influential to me personally for various reasons.

    Well, since so many people here don't consider it a Bible, I'll say the NLT.

    I think all here see it as being a bible, albeit, not one of the better translations!

    He taught theology at Western Michigan Reformed Seminary (Reformed Church of America in the 40s' 50s' I think. Very rare book out of print. The most influential book I own besides the bible.

    The Bible says we don't need anyone to teach us. I feel that what teaches the most is the conviction of what is right when we are doing wrong. The Holy Spirit does this teaching and it's not likely to be forgotten.
    Sure I have learned from Pastors yet scripture says we don't need anyone to teach us because we have the Holy Spirit who leads us and corrects us by convincing us and convicting us.
    Joh_14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

    Paul stated to us that God himself gave to us gifted men to teach and instruct us in the word, correct? Not just me, my Bible, and Holy Spirit makes 3!

    Jesus said;
    1Jn_2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

    The ecclesiastical history of England and Normandy by Ordericus Vitalis

    The additional stories about Peter and Paul were very interesting.

    When I finally got around to reading Mere Christianity, it was very disappointing. C.S. Lewis was just writing to other atheists as to why he changed his mind. While I'm sure it might be helpful to those who don't want to trust the Bible, I found it to be pedestrian and worldly.

    Think that John was talking about the Spirit Himself testifying to us who Jesus is, and salvation in Him, but not that we have no need to have further teachers or instructors once saved!

    What did the verse say?. You see I believe in the doctrine of Christ. This verse is taken from The teaching of Christ and you doubt it in favor of men

    Do you attend a local church, listening to a pastor, or else a teacher there?
