Then why didn't they understand the death burial and resurrection when Jesus told the disciples ? Can we be saved by misunderstanding this today ?

Jesus taught a present kingdom that is invisible. But you can see its presence through the scriptures that define its presence. Only the born again can see it by faith. Whereas many look for a physical kingdom of the future they can see by sight.

31¶Then he took unto him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished.
32For he shall be delivered unto the Gentiles, and shall be mocked, and spitefully entreated, and spitted on:
33And they shall scourge him, and put him to death: and the third day he shall rise again.
34¶And they understood none of these things: and this saying was hid from them, neither knew they the things which were spoken.
this is after they have already been preaching glad tidings about the KINGDOM . Can we be saved today if we don't understand what Jesus says above ?

the core of the eternal gospel is faith in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sin and the gift of eternal life.

Now this was not fully revealed in detail in Genesis 3:15 but pre OT and OT saints were saved by believing in the promised "seed of the woman" (The Messiah) to save us from our fallen estate.

In the passage of time The LOGOS (second person of the Trinity) became human flesh through the Virgin Mary and He and His apostles along with the writings of the prophets gave us the total revelation of the eternal gospel.

    NKJV
Hebrews 1:1 God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets,
    2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds;
3 who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,
4 having become so much better than the angels, as He has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.

So, all the details of the eternal gospel including the second coming and reigning of the resurrected Messiah over the Kingdom of God on earth (Revelation 20) have been fully given.

Nothing more is needed by revelation from God.

Exactly, as the full knowledge of the new Covenant and work of Jesus found in the Epistles!

If you want to see the complete gospel of the kingdom and Cross preached, Peter does so in Acts 2. Nobody preaches the gospel of the kingdom today. They might mention a gospel of a kingdom, but it's not what Jesus, Peter, or Paul preached.

The gospel of the New Covenant, ". . . Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. . . ." -- John 3:3.

    Doesn't verse 5 clarify ?
5¶Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

Think the NT Gospel actually is 2 Corinthians 5:21!

But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born [fn] of a woman, born under law, Gal 4:4
Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Heb 1:2
Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, Mark 1:14
Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. 1 Cor 15:50
so also it hath been written, 'The first man Adam became a living creature,' the last Adam is for a life-giving spirit, but that which is spiritual is not first, but that which was natural, afterwards that which is spiritual. 1 Cor 15:45,46 YLT
and if children, also heirs, heirs, indeed, of God, and heirs together of Christ -- if, indeed, we suffer together, that we may also be glorified together Rom 8:17 YLT
But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage: Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection. Luke 20:35,36 KJV

Yes, but missunderstood by irregular professing Christians. Not just verse 5 but 5-6, the human birth and the being born over which is by the Spirit of God. Jesus was answering his question verse 4. See Mattthew 18:3 as to why. Irregular professing Christians do not understand this. They trust in some kind of works.

George E Ladd has a book on it

Short version- jesus is announcing that He has come to save sinners and establish His Kingdom. The K’dom will not be fully seen until His return to claim His own at the 2nd Coming.

So, we In a K’dom not yet fully consecrated.
