Since I reside in California, I'd take the "California Zephyr" all the way to Chicago.

    Seeking Christ

I travel once on the Amtrak train, long ago, in mid-90's. I decided to visit one family in San Francisco I knew very well, and some other places; church, and the company I worked for.

So I departed from New Jersey on the bus and arrived in Chicago train station, from Chicago I took the train to San Francisco. It took about between 3 and 4 days to get to West Coast, with many stops on the way.

Scenery was great, I really enjoyed it. I had no sleeper, but just seating coach and it was extremely uncomfortable. Food on the train was very bad and also very expensive, but I had some snacks with me and they kept me alive.

The trip was in the mid-summer, and somewhere in the middle of the way train's air-conditioning broke down, and immediately heat reached unbearable level, but thanks to quick response of maintenance team, in 30 minutes they fixed problem. If they delay any longer, we would suffocate in that train.

Overall experience was positive, but I will never travel on Amtrak again.
