If you do not keep His day. Will you be saved? Could you be saved? Might you be saved? Or will Gods Word come to pass?

Well, it's obvious this thread is starting off on a bad leg...

I move that the 'Powers that Be' close it while the closing is good and there isn't any bloodshed...

God's Word will come to pass even if you do not keep His Sabath. Will you be saved? That if for God to pass judgement. Could you be saved? That is for you and you alone know the answer to that. Might you been saved? again only you know what is in your heart and the wrongs you have done and if you have asked for forgiveness. AMEN

1 John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

But, this isn't the subject of this thread. [IMG]

I have often wondered what is exactly meant by keeping the Sabbath, as per the way that Saturday-only Sabbath Keepers want it.

Does this mean to go to church? If so, what church? Their Seventh-Day Adventist church? Or would a Seventh-Day Baptist church do? Or how about a Messianic Jewish Synagogue?

Abstain from work? I could go for that.

Stay at home and read the Bible? I could do that.

Should I sacrifice some animals, splash blood around, burn incense, and such, as per the instructions in the Old Testament on how to keep the Sabbath? Now here, I would think that the local authorities would have a problem with this. Perhaps I could tell them that I am part-Santarian.

And getting back to my first point, in my experiences, those who say I must keep the Sabbath are actually saying that I must join the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, --- OR ELSE!

Or else what? Well, then I should get ready to play ukelele at the Eternal Luau. Hopefully, I can play by ear, since I've never had lessons.

The Sabbath commandment (read Exodus 20:8-11) does not require animal sacrifices. All the other Holy days mentioned in Lev 23 do require sacrifices and offerings.

In Gen 2:3 when the Sabbath is "made holy" -- no animal sacrifices.

In Isaiah 66 New Earth "From Sabbath to Sabbath SHALL all mankind come before Me to Worship" nn animal Sacrifices.

So you "Come before God to Worship" and you refrain from Work on "His Holy Day" (Isaiah 58 "The Holy day of the Lord").

If you are Seventh-day Baptist - then you attend worship services with fellow believers - Christians that are Seventh-day Baptists.

If you are a Seventh-day Adventist Christian then you are probably going to worship with Adventist Christians.

The Sabbath was "MADE FOR MANKIND not MANKIND for the SABBATH" MArk 2:27 - it is a "blessing" why not be "blessed" by it?

    Where is the confusion?

    In Christ,

    Bob

No, not then. It was only but a few days after that God Himself offered animal sacrifices on behalsf of Adam and Eve as soon as Adam and Eve sinned. The animal sacrifices were needed for sin. "For without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sin."
You keep using this verse over and over again. It is the lamest excuse I have ever heard for an argument for the Sabbath. It takes place in the Millennial Kingdom and has no revelance for us today. Besides that you are wrong. Will there be animal sacrifices. Perhaps you didn't read the chapter:

Isaiah 66:20 And they shall bring all your brethren for an offering unto the LORD out of all nations upon horses, and in chariots, and in litters, and upon mules, and upon swift beasts, to my holy mountain Jerusalem, saith the LORD, as the children of Israel bring an offering in a clean vessel into the house of the LORD.
Again this is more Scripture taken out of context. It is Scripture that looks forward to a future time from now--to the Millennial Kingdom, and has no revelance to us today. It deals with the nation of Israel and not with us.
The confusion is with SDA doctrine which does not line up with the Word of God, most of which follows the doctrines of Ellen G. White, a false prophets, which evangelical Christianity rejects.

My thoughts on how I keep the Sabbath as a Seventh Day Baptist, pretty much revolves around the idea that I refuse to do paid work on Saturdays.

Ideally I would go along to the SDB Bible Study at 9:30am, then off to the morning fellowship meeting at Eleven. Often its a combined lunch at church, or we go to someones house for lunch, the food isnt imortant to me, the fellowship is, sometimes if the weather is good we have picnic lunch and a praise and worship meeting at the same time. 2.00 is usuallly our outreach service which we hold in a low socio economic area in an existing Baptist Union church. Often our fellowship extends into Saturday night.

I would have no problem in collecting for the Salvation Army on a Saturday afternoon, or doing a church garage sale as I think that both are in the serivice of God, and not for your own gain.

The trap with Sabbath Keeping is falling into legalism, and you can always push the envelope further. Legalised Sabbath Keeping usually leads the keeping of the Old Testament Feasts which is something that was fufilled in Christ.

My Scripture for choosing to keep the Sabbath on Saturday is Genesis 2:3 because I believe that God consecrated and made holy the Seventh Day because of what He had done in creating the world. I see that often Creationism is more and more attacked now and it is seen by many as a nonesence that God created the world in six literal days. I feel that is why God sanctified the seventh day for rest, to show the world for eternity, even in the days of popular evolutionism what He had done, and to some degree in Isaiah, what He is still going to do, continue on from the reading that Jesus read in the Temple when the Jews were told, this is fufulled in your midst today.

The point remains - neither Christ our Creator God's Holy Seventh Day observance NOR the institution of Marriage as given to MANKIND in that first 7 days - that "creation WEEK" - were "based" in Animal sacrifices.

I think you are trying to agree with this obvious fact in your response - but perhaps you are just trying to avoid direct agreement.

I dissagree with this. I do not keep the Lev 23 feast days because I view Heb 10 as stating that all animal sacrifices have ended and those annual holy days were centered around animal sacrifices to "observe them". As 1Cor 5 says "Christ OUR PASSOVER has been sacrificed".

HOWEVER if I were to go so far as to say "anyone who honors God's annual Sabbaths is a legalist" then I would be in serious trouble in Romans 14 where Paul DEFENDS that very practice "OBSERVING ALL the days" and also "OBSERVING ONE Of the holy days ABOVE the others".

If I were to say "yes but that is legalism" then the result is Paul is defending legalism in Romans 14.

    I just can't go there.

    Bob

That is because your failed arguments against this text have never been shown to "hold water".

If you simply walk away from your own failed argument here when it is "shown" to fail the test of exegesis -- why in the world would you expect me to walk away from the text that has withstood your speculative views?

That would make no sense at all!

That is the "lamest argument" ever made against Christ the Creator's Sabbath I have ever heard.

The idea that the SAME scope we SEE in Mark 2 and Gen 2 (ALL MANKIND) being continued EXPLICITLY for "ALL MANKIND" into eternity -- "has no meaning to the saints" is totally non-sensical!

How in the world could you ever expect such an argument to satisfy even the most biased anti-Sabbath believer??!!!

Frankly - I am surprised you use it at all, much less "repeat it" as you do.

Why not present a sound argument instead?

    In Christ,

    Bob

I know of NO Bible scholars that teach that the sick and lame (on litters) will "inhabit the New Earth".

I know of NO credible Bible scholar that argues as you do - that in the New Earth Animal sacrifices will START BACK up - the ones that were abolished according to Heb 10!!

Your eisegesis of this passage "stands alone" as usual.

The Isaiah 66:20 verse is not linked to the NEW EARTH AS is the explicit statement regarding "ALL MANKIND coming before God to WORSHIP from Sabbath to SABBATH".

IF you would like to suppose that this is a Pre-CROSS FUTURE "anticipated in the OT" where ALL MANKIND is worshipping God from Sabbath to Sabbath and ALL MANKIND is also bringing their sick to Jerusalem -- then fine but that is BEFORE the NEW Earth and it is a huge failure for you because it would be to ADMIT that the SCOPE of the SABBATH Pre-CROSS was intended to be ALL MANKIND!

Basically you have "nowhere to turn" in your eisegesis of this passage without seeing your argument fall into a hole.

    That is not too surprising.

What IS surprising is that you would keep jumping back into it - time after time as if "you were doing a good thing".

Why do you keep doing that??

    In Christ,

    Bob

in Deuteronomy 5:12-15 tells you of the sabbath if anyone is interested. Gods Sabbath, it does not give a particular day on man shall work 6 days and on the 7th day rest from any labor or work

    Hello Bob,

Let me point out my friend that I do not feel that you or really any of the other SDA posters on the board keep the Sabbath in a legalised fashion.

I have visited the SDA a few times and find it similar to the standard SDB meeting when I have been there.

My experience though Bob is that prior to being involved with the Seventh Day Baptist Church was that I went to the Church of God Seventh Day, which was the group that Herbert Armstrong was thrown out of and went on to form the Worldwide Church of God from. Anyway what I noticed there, and I have seen this happen in the SDB as well, is that people come into it and get very heavilly into the Sabbath idea and then begin judging others on how they keep the Sabbath. One Chap at COG7 used to constantly argue over things like that with the Pastor during Bible Studies. In all cases, what has happened is that the people leave and join one of the Armstrong splinter groups like the Living Church of God, United Church of God, Church of the Great God etc etc, all of whom teach mandatory feast keeping and deny the Trinity.

I am not trying to accuse people of being legalistic sabbath keepers, yet this is what I have seen happen in practice to those that are into legalistic sabbath keeping.

The Calender has had at least three changes scince Genesis. Yet what we do know is that Jesus kept the Sabbath on Saturday as the Jews have kept the Sabbath continously on Saturday for the past two thousand years. Christ was without sin, and His keeping of the Sabbath on Saturday clearly validated Saturday as the right day for the Sabbath - Every Seven days scince the ressurection of Christ, without failing, the Jews have kep the sabbath. Whether the calenders change or not, this continues!
