    XVII. Religious Liberty

God alone is Lord of the conscience, and He has left it free from the doctrines and commandments of men which are contrary to His Word or not contained in it. Church and state should be separate. The state owes to every church protection and full freedom in the pursuit of its spiritual ends. In providing for such freedom no ecclesiastical group or denomination should be favored by the state more than others. Civil government being ordained of God, it is the duty of Christians to render loyal obedience thereto in all things not contrary to the revealed will of God. The church should not resort to the civil power to carry on its work. The gospel of Christ contemplates spiritual means alone for the pursuit of its ends. The state has no right to impose penalties for religious opinions of any kind. The state has no right to impose taxes for the support of any form of religion. A free church in a free state is the Christian ideal, and this implies the right of free and unhindered access to God on the part of all men, and the right to form and propagate opinions in the sphere of religion without interference by the civil power.

    Genesis 1:27; 2:7; Matthew 6:6-7,24; 16:26; 22:21; John 8:36; Acts 4:19-20; Romans 6:1-2; 13:1-7; Galatians 5:1,13; Philippians 3:20; 1 Timothy 2:1-2; James 4:12; 1 Peter 2:12-17; 3:11-17; 4:12-19.

In light of this belief, how does this relate to States/Commonwealths prohibiting churches from meeting - either inside or outside?

The state govts. and many more locals have overstepped their bounds. We should demand clarification.
That’s the way we expect it to work. Humm?

Time for the church to assemble and worship.
Take and make precautions for COVID, Flu, tummy bug and the rogue gunman and get together as a church.

This must be subjected to Paul’s statement concerning civil authority and believer submission.

Subjection and submission in all things outside the authority of the local church and those things condemned or prohibited by scripture.

Render unto Caesar what is due him, and render God due Him, so would also say it is unconstitutional to order churches to shut down!

    Because that’s what we do.
    Have church.
Preach, teach, edify the body, make disciples then go out among the world.

Are you sure you just don’t stay in and ... well I don’t see any evidence that you go out to the world

Southern baptists don’t work up here in the north land. I’ve seen one failure after another.

So do I have religious liberty?... I can't go to church and worship and fellowship with the brethren... Why?... Is there a raging worldwide pandemic or is this some evil conspiracy as some brethren think the Anti-Christ is lurking around every corner... I believe my brethren and I trust them and I don't believe those on here would post harmful information... Deacon who works in the medical field, says this is real... Stay home... kyredneck who daughter is a believe an R.N. in ICU says... Stay home... I hear in California where I live, for your protection... Stay home!

Has my religious liberty been taken away?... There is an inconvenience but so what, would I deliberately go to church if I had the flu and shake hands with everyone?... I would pass it on and I'm sure that would please the congregation... Do I still have religious liberty?... No one has come to my home and said, give us all yous religious Bibles and material... No one has blocked me from watching religious programs on TV that run 24/7... No one has blocked me from going on the internet and listening to sermon after sermon and reading article after article... No one has blocked me from coming on the Baptist Board... No one has blocked me from hearing sermons streamed in from my church and weather I am not there in the body I am there in spirit and the same goes for the sermons I hear from churches I don't even belong to... I called EWF the other day, health concerns about his wife that he posted on here and he called me back and we had phone fellowship.

I hear some say this is religious persecution and we should heed to what is said in Hebrews 10:25

Hebrews 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

Well if this is some kind of religious persecution, persecution doesn't destroy Christianity, and it hasn't all down thru history... IS CAUSES IT TO GROW!... And just maybe after we get a handle on this worldwide pandemic virus, those who stayed out of church for some reason known only to them and God will return and those who never thought of Church will come... No this has nothing to do with my religious liberty... Just a little inconvenience... And this too will pass... Brother Glen:)

What do you mean by that?
Evidence? What do you mean by evidence? Where are you looking for this evidence?what meets your criteria for evidence?

What state are you referring ??

Here, the BCNY has well over 300 churches -
Sure some have closed for various reasons
But we have many churches that are extremely successful

Phillip Lee, an engineer that I worked with before he moved to Washington State, was born in China and active in the underground church until he was forced to flee following Tienenman Square. In China you are free to attend an official state sponsored church that acknowledges your duty to the State before your duty to God. As an alternative, you can attend a house church where every service carries the risk that the secret police will infiltrate and arrest all of you. The penalty for challenging the state is to spend some time in a sewage pit as your prison cell.

So what exactly is preventing the church from meeting? What CAN the US Government do?

As the old song states: “go if you want to go, and stay if you want to stay ...”
