Have You Ridden a Horse?

My lovely wife won all the championships for Western Pleasure at all the Fairs and Shows in my Tricounty NY And NJ area. She also raised them and bred them.

 

Yep, I was on the Marine Corps rodeo team when I was in the corps. I mainly rode bulls but horses have always been a part of my life.

 

My young granddaughter takes horse riding lessons.
But it’s not simply riding lessons.
They have the kids doing the chores, cleaning the stalls and caring for the horse.

I have ridden horses, ponies and camels...although not too well I imagine.

 

Daughter showed Hunter/Jumper, & English & Western Equitation. We owned Thoroughbred, Arabian, Quarter Horse, & Dutch Warmblood. In addition we owned Tennessee Walkers, & finally Rocky Mountain Horses. The gaited horses (Walkers & Rockies) were a pure pleasure in every way, from their docile disposition to their smooth, smooth way of going. Even someone who has never ridden will have no problem riding the majority of gaited horses. They aren’t easily spooked, & will take care of a novice rider. My Rocky babies who were brought into the cement barn aisle immediately after birth would be gaiting already as they hustled along next to mom. I am blessed to have had them in my life.

 

Yes, but not all that much. I have ploughed behind a horse more than I have ridden a horse.
