Yet Congress could not do anything but certify the vote or they would have hijacked the election and violated the Constitution.

Not according to the law. Have you read the law? Do you know about the objection process? It's not just for show.

Yes. You pointed out the fact Congress had to confirm the election with two exceptions- a decision by the SCOTUS or under the "Electorial Act". The former did not occur and the latter would not have covered the circumstances of the 2020 election (even if it could be applied, which is questionable).

Yes, Pence should not have been called upon to unilaterally reject electors. There should have been objections to electors raised, even if eventually deemed below the bar. There should have been discussion for the record. Bipartisan investigation would have been even better. But rubber stamping would have been a farce, was a farce, regardless of the suspiciously arranged breach of the Capitol.

The gains under Trump accrued to the GOP overall, which is the point. There was a lot of resistance from RINOs and others seemingly "afraid of success." They stand to lose all of that and more, if they now abandon those who have supported Trump by ousting him even by one vote. But before Trump they weren't much anyway, which is how we got eight debilitating years under Obama-Biden. The Biden-Harris years will be even worse, but we knew that. Whether they will be worse than Hillary-Kaine would have been, I don't know.
