If you go back for enough into history, you find every nation is made up of invaders that displaced the population. It was constant and it continues today.

    peace to you

He stayed on Mr. Floyd’s neck for 2:45 seconds after being told he had no discernible pulse.

The only reasonable explanation is he intended to kill him.

    peace to you

Interesting, and all this time they have been saying that Floyd had allegedly passed a counterfeit bill and was being first detained, then arrested for that.

No mention anywhere of the police being dispatched to assess or provide assistance in a medical crisis.

Obviously, the medical crisis occurred after the arrest was made and the police called for EMS because Mr. Floyd stated he couldn’t breathe.

There is no question of the appropriateness of the police presence and subsequent arrest of Mr.Floyd.

    peace to you

That may be, but it is very far from the only thing that happened. Very, very far, and not at all the cause for police to be on the scene.

Ok, please give a reasonable explanation for the police officer to stay on Mr.Floyd’s neck for 2:45 seconds knowing he was unconscious, unresponsive and with no discernible pulse?

I know you stated it was inappropriate. We agree. But beyond that, why?

What’s the reason to do that, if not to make sure he dies? Any reasonable explanation come to mind? I can’t think of any.

    peace to you

I’m not sure of your point. The police were on the scene to investigate an allegation of passing a counterfeit bill by Mr.Floyd.

Mr.Floyd refused to follow police instructions. Mr.Floyd acted irrationally and resisted arrest. Mr. Floyd claimed he couldn’t breathe and police called EMS.

    What’s your point?

    peace to you

Try going back and following from the points prior to my post. There are little up arrows to help with that process of following the trail. I think it's called backtracking.

They do. Anytime they have a suspect in custody or subdued they are responsible for his or her well being.

They did not call for medical assistance, even though Floyd was stating he could not breathe. Thus is worse because the reason was not restricted air way from the officer.

They just let the man die.

OK, now address the context rather than ignore it. To say that it was only a medical situation is denying the context, which is a huge factor.

The police are dealing with a suspect in a different criminal case, a non-drug offense, who is not telling the truth, so they then have to discern when if ever he is telling the truth.

Saying, “[T]he only thing that seems to have occurred is Mr. Floyd was denied medical care in a medical crisis,” does not even come close to fairly representing the situation.

I am not saying it was only a medical situation.

I am saying there was a medical situation.

Mr. Floyd had committed a crime and overdosed in an attempt to hide drugs. He alerted the officers that he could not breathe (several times). The officers had Mr. Floyd subdued.

    What should happen?

    A. Call for medical support.
    B. Hold him down while he dies because he was a criminal who was dying of drugs he took.

It seems most here believe B. the appropriate response because the officers have no responsibility for suspects medical status while under their control.

But A. is correct. If an officer encounters a suspect who has been shot it is never appropriate to just hold the guy to the ground and watch him bleed out.

The officers probably thought he was not really having difficulty, but that's on them. The Floyd told them, they ignored him, and he died. That is all that really matters.

The police must believe a person in custody is telling the truth if they claim they can’t breathe.

They are not medical doctors, not EMS, not nurses or health care professionals. They can’t make a determination of whether it’s true or not. They can’t wait until the person is unconscious,

Their legal responsibility is to notify EMS if the person in custody claims a medical crisis.

    peace to you

That assumes a number of things in question. Hindsight won’t get it. If allowed free rein, Floyd committed suicide by drug overdose.

AFAIK, he never asked for or suggested he might need medical attention. Did anyone with him tell the police Floyd needed medical attention. AFAIK, they either lied or clammed up.

Floyd did ask to lie down on the ground rather than be put in a police vehicle. (The police complied.)

As a medical expert, you know that this indicates _______________, which means you should _____________. Fill in the blanks.

Non-medical personnel, aka police, are there having to assess the situation with an uncooperative criminal suspect.

One interesting point that came up in the trial and is still unclear to me is the unusual order in which medical help finally arrived.

looks like the "evidence" that you want, is to somehow show that Chauvin is not guilty of Floyds death!

Me. Floyd stated “I’m gonna die” and “I can’t breathe” many times.

That is a request for medical attention.

    peace to you

Mr. Floyd told the police officers (repeatedly) that he could not breathe.

What steps do you believe the officers took to address Mr. Floyd's medical concern (that he could not breathe)?

yes, that is true, he could not breathe because the fentanyl in his system was suppressing his breathing ability, so he did get asphyxiated by the drugs he had taken.
And the police did call paramedics or the paramedics would not have been there.

If you resist the police, your going to be treated differently, that's true everywhere. Things are going to get rougher.
Look at the arrests on TV. And also sometimes people are put in jail and not paid attention to on their complaints, sometimes people die in custody ignored.
