Yes, it is a fools errant to challenge truth with falsehood.

Did "common man" vote to go to war? Nope. So who said the war was caused by the view of "common man?" No one.

Did anyone say most northerners had first hand experience? Nope

Was slavery "in the process of self extinguishment?" If true then slavery was not the cause of the war. But the claim is a convenient fiction.

Sustaining slavery is not a lofty goal, but that is the cause of the war.

And finally you did hit on one truth, the common people of the north were largely not willing to die to bring an end to slavery, but were willing to preserve the Union. Thus Lincoln talked a lot about the Union, and the evil disunionists.

Yes I am. My fault though, I thought I could have an adult conversation here.

    Great post age

As the Preacher wrote, "There is nothing new under the sun,". All need to read, again, what Samuel told the people concerning the king who would be their ruler. They would be his slave. In reality.

Question? What would happen to you and your property, house, included if you do no pay your taxes?

Who owns the house you live in?

In 1863 there was nothing new under the sun and neither is there, today.

    IMHO

Not a preacher. The bible I have is KJV but mostly I use Blue Letter Bible and use all on there. You have probably noticed I post a lot from YLT mainly because I am not convinced that the definite article, the. is not very important to the understanding of the word of God. I also believe the genitive should be translated in the, "of," understanding. However as I have stated many, many times I know, no Greek so I could be very mistaken. I am very monergistic in my belief and I believe those two things support monergism in the Greek .

I would love for some of the Greek gurus speak to this. I miss Tcassidy for that very purpose even though he could be very short and sarcastic at times.

Why should I repent for slavery when I never held slaves?

I see. But you're cool with the Stars and Stripes, right? The flag that flew over slavery for about sixty-five years, flew over countless atrocities against the Indians, was carried in marches by the Ku Klux Klan, flew over a segregated military, flew over eugenics, flew over lynchings, flew over the internment of Japanese Americans, flew over segregation, etc?

We could just as easily call you a racist for supporting the Stars and Stripes, but, because we're not idiots, we know that wasn't the purpose of the flag, but a misapplication of the flag.

You are making a great argument for a national day of repentance.
