We no longer have a t.v., we're with Trotter on this one. We do use our computer for dvds ( christian based) but even they are becoming very few and far between. Sometimes I wonder how God would feel when I am tempted to intentionally put filth/cussing and the like before my eyes and ears. Athough I understand that I will not be able to get away from it untill I go home to be with God, I believe where I can make that decision to stay away from it I will even if that means my flesh loses out.

I think that the mvies can be just as profitable with out the sex or profanity. I visit a friend who has said OhBrotherwhen I don't want to watch an adult movie or watch Ellen.

Aside from not liking profanity in the movies or tv, I don't approve of people pushing unGodly lifestyles in our faces.

oh i know there's christian TV out there.
    ---

but to say you dont approve of people shoving ungodly lifestyles in your face... well that happens everyday whether you like it or not. can't get away from it. if you try to get away from it - you're not going to grow.

put a brand new plant in the closet - won't grow. put it in the sunlight - it will grow. the sunlight represents the promised trials and persecution. the closet represents 'trying to shelter ones self from the world'

So, sin is what makes the Christian grow? Now, here is an illustration that works. Put the plant under a sunbed and it will frazzle in no time flat! Take it back into ordinary sunlight and water it, and it will grow. The sunbed just shows what it really needs, it does not make it grow.

The closet does not represent us sheilding ourselves from the world. The closet is where Christ told us to meet with Him and pray. If your closets lonely try another door.

Gekko, someone says they do not want to watch something that pushes sin in their face and you attack them? I'd applaude them and wish more Christians took such a stand!

When my wife and I married we made a commitment to not allow any profanity. My reasoning is:

    1. I love the names of God and don't want to hear them abused.
    2. I would not tolerate people verbally abusing my loved ones and will not tolerate them abusing God's name.
    3. I don't wait for patterns. Christ did not die for patterns of sin, but sin, singular.
    4. In the Old Testament they stoned people for taking the Lord's name in vain, so God must think it kind of important.

I take what some people consider strong and strict stands. And then they (Christians) accuse me and others like me of not being able to live in the real world. They say because I and others like me don't dice with sin and see how close to the Devil's side I can get they say I won't be an effective witness.

Well, I know the real world, very well. I don't share the following to boast, but to prove that taking definite and high stands do not isolate nor invalidate a Christian's usefulness.

By the grace of God I excelled in one of the leading companies in the UK. Senior members of the regional management thought I had been sent to test them when I went for the promotion interview in front of a panel of 20 senior managers.

Whether with employees or the managment team I have seen innumerable witnessing opportunities.

Now God has called me to pastor a church and the Lord is graciously blessing.

Taking strong stands for the Lord does not mean you are out of touch with the real world - it just means you hate even the garment spotted with sin and want nothing to do with it.

We are in the world and we will get our feet dirty, but to run and jump in the mud because, hey, its gonna happen any way is just plain dumb and sinful!

Take the stands you want, but when someone like faithgirl simply states their position don't question their ability to live in the "real world."

Gekko, weare also known for the company we keep. Bad comapny corrupts good morals. Shows that have profanity or violence can corrupt us spiritually.

I only stop if it is constant. You really can't avoid even a few expletives.

I DO stop viewing program, DVD or whatever. We should not feed our minds on trash. Even if no one else knows..I do.

My VCR has a built-in TV Guardian, and it works great for the most part. On some movies, almost the entire dialog is bleeped out - Those movies do not last too long before getting kicked to the curb.

There is a company that edits them, then sells the original with the edited version. Studios tried to stop them, because it violated their artistic "vision" they were presenting. The courts ruled that as long as it was packaged with the real video, it was legal.

    Re:movies

Many today are using clean flicks. They edit both language and content and my wife and I find them refreshing as well as reasonable in price.

    http://www.cleanflicks.com/

If two or three families will go together you can order 2 or 3 films at a time and pass them around in a timely manner that way the overall cost is only about $10.00 per month.

    I stop them immediately.

I usually don't have to do that though because my 12-year-old grandson beats me to it. :saint:

This also includes nudity and sexual behavior.
