Revelation 13:15 - "He was given power to give breath to the image of the first beast, so that it could speak and cause all who refused to worship the image to be killed."

Revelation 13 is talking about the two beasts. V15 is talking about the beast out the earth having some control over the the beast of the sea. But v12 says that any authority this beast excercises is on his behalf of the beast of the sea.

You are citing one verse alone, which, without the context of the whole chapter, doesn't tell us much. GOtta read the whole chapter, which is quite colorful and allegorical.

"There's a sucker born every minute" (P.T. Barnum).
You can see that in the lobby of Ceaser's Palace, Las Vegas!
I would not give the devil so much credit as to create a lifeform.
I feel as though it will be some kind of con job.

Howdy Tony, nice to have new posters join in.

    NIV
He was given power to give breath to the image of the first beast, so that it could speak and cause all who refused to worship the image to be killed.

The false prophet gives life to the image of the Antichrist, it is able to inhale and exhale like you and me, but is not a human or does it have a spirit and soul. It thinks and demands everyone to worship it or else be killed. It also demands every one to receive its mark to buy or sell. The Antichrist does not give breath to the image or is the mark of the Antichrist; all the above is initiated by the false prophet.

Does everyone know that the word "antichrist" does not appear in the Book of the Revelation? I was surprised when I first heard that.

And in fact only appears in the following:

1 John 2:18 Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.

1 John 2:22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.

1 John 4:3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

2 John 1:7 For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.

Of course that does not necessarily mean that John is not refering to him/them when he uses the word "beast", but is there any proof to make the connection?

    Hank, please compare these Scriptures:

    The Antichrist blasphemes God:
    Dan. 7:8, 11,20,25; 11:36; Rev. 13:5-6

    He overcomes the saints:
    Dan. 7:21, 25; Rev. 7:9-17; 13:7; 14:13; 15:2-4

    Signs and wonders:

    2 Thess. 2:8-12; Rev. 13:13

    Set up the abomination:
    Dan. 9:27; Mt. 24:15; Rev. 13:14

    Reigns for 42 months:
    Dan. 7:24; 12:7

    Satan gives power to him:
    Dan. 8:24; Rev. 13:2b

    Thrown into the blazing fire:
    Dan. 7:11; Rev. 19:20

Daniel 11:36-45 describes the Antichrist during the time of the end (Tribulation), the king of the south will be Egypt.

To the passages written in the epistles of John?

I understand that dispensationalists and others connect these Scripture that you have brought up with the "antichrist" and it may be a valid connection but there seems no way to logically do so.

The scriptural indictment in the epistles of John (the only places where the word "antichrist" is used) brought against the antichrist(s) is that he/they deny that Jesus is the Christ and/or that He came in the flesh.

The Revelation only says that he blasphemes against God and His name and does not say in particular that he denies that Jesus is the Christ or that He did not come in the flesh.

John for one thing says that he is already here: "whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world".

Note that in the 1 John 4:3 passage the phrase "and this is that spirit of antichrist", the word spirit is in italics and is not in the koine text. So he (or his influence) is already being manifested in the world at the writting of John's epistles.

But yes, being somewhat a dispensationalist I agree those passages which you cite probably speak of him. That there will be a personage (the incarnation of satan) the quintessential "antichrist" if you will, appear on the earth just before the Second Coming of Jesus Christ whom the whole world will follow after and worship.

I just thought it unusual that the use of the word "antichrist" goes unchallenged when being applied to books other than the epistles of John especially when John states that he is already here.

    Tony,
These events seem to be similar in Moses' and Aaron's display of miracles before the king of Egypt. The sorcerers were permitted to duplicate
some of the brothers performances in order to glorify the Lord. 2 Thessalonians 2:7-12 and Revelation 17:17 can also be filtered through Revelation 13:15.

And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. - KJV

We have the technology now to make a hologram 'in the air' (as in far up and not simply in the room) and seem alive.

Thank you, Ed. and no, you don't look a thing like me! There are other articles and bits of information, Phillip, which we have read from time to time in science blurbs. The technology is, I think, further along than most are aware of.
