Look at some of the banner ads around here. I'm sure the webmaster would appreciate you looking there for help! [IMG]

I manage a site hosted by echristian webhosting, which is an advertiser on this site, I have been very very satisfied with their service, they have very good pricing too. Check out the banner ads, you will see one for them before too long.

I know this sounds like advertising, but all I'm trying to do is find Christians who want to help share the cost of my business resellers server that I lease from a big company.

Unlike the cheap free ones, it has THREE backbone highspeed T-3 lines, full battery and generator backup, storm-proof concrete building, and they do a tape backup every single night of all of their servers.

For $15 or $20 a month I will let you rent space. You get access to the logs. Also, you can use PHP or cgi-bin. You also have access to your security files so you can ban people who try to hack you.

I know this sound like more than you may be used to, but it is a professional webserver with professional and high-speed access. PM me if you are interested. Like I say, I just need someone to help share the cost.

By the way, I own baptist-church.org and methodist-church.com. If you know of a mega-church wanting baptist-church.org, I'll let it go, but not cheap.

By the way, you register your own web name. I prefer networksolutions, they are more forgiving when time elapses. Setup is $20 for the first month too. but that is not ever required again. You also get to try out Linux, but you don't have to know it. The server runs on Linux. I can have up to 25 names and I have about 15 on it now. NO PORN!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, and you get a bunch of free e-mails with that.

TO be completely honest I pay about $115 per month for the server and I'm looking for a job now and don't want to loose it, so some sharing is definitely a possibility. That is, if you want a true professional company and not a freebie that usually won't get listed on google, etc.

By the way, I can help you design your website and get you some easy software to use. I can also teach you how to get listed as high as possible on the search engines, which is CRITICAL if you want to be viewed.

Thank you for your replies. I am completely ignorant on this subject so bare with me please.

Ok so I need a host to start correct? I have been checking out the banners and the suggested webhosts. Thank you!
    What is a host anyway?

Maybe if I share what I am looking to do it would be easier. At this point I do not think I will be selling anything on my webpage. Mainly I want it to be a source of information and encouragement. I do not care to have a message board but would like some sort of forum for Q&A. I would like to have music playing, different songs for different areas of the board. And pictures and maybe video. I also want to have plenty of links to other Christian webpage’s. I do like the idea of book recommendations. I am not sure how much space I would need and to be honest I do not understand what that entails.

I thought it was in alphabetical order or the most recent updated? Like a phone book? LOL!!!!! I personally do a yahoo search for something but Google is something different right. What is the difference?

When you link to someone do you have to have permission? And what does that exactly mean when you link to someone?

With my lack of knowledge in this area it is a miracle I even figured how to post on this board, lol! My budget is limited but I also want quality so people will not get frustrated and leave.
    Thank you!

Okay, will take a stab at some of your questions.

2000mb space means you have 2000 mega bites of space that you can fill on the host computer (server).

20 gb bandwidth is how much stuff people can come and get from your site without you paying more (normally).

Host is the company and their computer where you are renting space for your website. This is also often called the server though the server is actually the computer not the company but server can also refer to the company.

2000mb is a lot of space. I have a fair sized website and it barely fills 20 meg. 2000 would keep you very busy for quite awhile :)

20 gb bandwidth is also pretty high for normal websites, though if you might go commercial you would want higher bandwidth than if you don't.

I only transfer 2-300 meg per month on my site.

You might check with your local library and maybe city, and county. Many have their own internet service that is usually pretty cheap and in my case fairy reliable.

Be glad to answer other questions by email if I can help. [email protected]

Yes, you need a host so you can store your site and allow people to access it.

You will need a program that produces files in .html format. Some versions of Word allow saving in .html but you would be a little limited with it.

Netscape and MS Explorer come with a good basic .html editor that I have used for many years. If you want something classier you would have to go looking. MS Front page is a good program, but there are others much cheaper. (I did pick frontpage up on ebay cheap.)

The QandA part I have not gotten into, but Front page does help you set up forums/boards.

Hmmm...a WYSIWYG editor? Something like CoffeCup? I know there are others, but that's the first that sprung to mind...

Enoch, I too, can report glad tidings about eChristianWebhosting. Bought two packages and several domain names from them & launched some web sites & it was unfamiliar territory in the dot com zone for me. Between the good folks in this forum at the BB & their advice and the kind & patient tech support at the hosting co., I feel like a pro now. (Key word: "feel" like one. I'm not one yet, LOL.)
