Note that the article also cites the Russian cosmologist Alexander Friedmann, who independently proposed a similar solution from equations he developed a few years before Lemaître.

Ah, yes, “the science” can be elusive, often alternately being advanced by mavericks and stymied by the entrenched. And the entrenched may have once been mavericks.

I find Einstein's resistance intriguing. Though his theory of relativity led to these further developments, he favored a steady-state model.

To his credit, he later relented while others continued to resist. The resistance was mainly because the “Big Bang” points to a beginning, which sounds like the opening of Genesis.

    Origin of the Big Bang…

And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. - Genesis 1:3

I believe that all mass expanded out from a point of origin from there. I also believe that billions of years could have
transpired until we get to Genesis 1:4. If E = mc2 then we can divide and conclude that...

    Mass (m) = Energy (E/c2)

It is an easy thing for God to change the Mass into plasma and then reform the plasma into mass… However to his will and liking… No man being his councilor…

Yes, many Christians consider Big Bang theory consistent with biblical creation.

So did many atheists who initially opposed the theory. Having a beginning just doesn’t work well for materialism or naturalism. They were banking on an eternal, infinite, steady-state universe.

An eternal, oscillating universe works well for Hindus, so there was also resistance from them, especially after oscillation was ruled out.

In which I also believe we have an excellent way to such light and energy… Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. - John 14:6 All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him. Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. - Matthew 11:27-28

The 20th century theory of the Big Bang [aka the Horrendous Space Kablooie (HSK)] helped to explain Hubble’s observation of an expanding universe.
Current theories concern the 1998 observation of an accelerating expansion of the universe.

Why would God need billions of years? He also made earth before the stars so forget any big bang. Either He did it like He told us in Genesis or not.

5 And the angel which I saw stand upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his hand to heaven,
6 And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer: - Revelation 10

God has eternity at his disposal, which concepts I cannot understand.

His will was exactly what He recorded. And yes, of course He could create the stars and earth in the time He said.
No one needs to understand universal mysteries of God to read what he wrote about what He did.

And… Remembering God’s challenges to Job on the creation…

1 Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,

2 Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?

3 Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me.

4 Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.

5 Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it?

    6 Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof;

7 When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

8 Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it brake forth, as if it had issued out of the womb?

9 When I made the cloud the garment thereof, and thick darkness a swaddlingband for it,

10 And brake up for it my decreed place, and set bars and doors,

11 And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further: and here shall thy proud waves be stayed?

    12 Hast thou commanded the morning since thy days; and caused the dayspring to know his place;

13 That it might take hold of the ends of the earth, that the wicked might be shaken out of it?

14 It is turned as clay to the seal; and they stand as a garment.

15 And from the wicked their light is withholden, and the high arm shall be broken.

16 Hast thou entered into the springs of the sea? or hast thou walked in the search of the depth?

17 Have the gates of death been opened unto thee? or hast thou seen the doors of the shadow of death?

18 Hast thou perceived the breadth of the earth? declare if thou knowest it all. - Job 38

Bingo. They don't know it all, and all they think they know that is against Scripture is wrong.

Yes, that formulation is problematic indeed. Talking about "what God needs" is well beyond the purview of man. But then, no else here seems to be talking in those terms.

Saying God needed six days to complete creation would be just as out of line. Or is someone claiming that they know God needed six days and that they know why? If that’s the case, then let me grab some popcorn. :Wink

No it is completely in line to read what He says about what creation was like. I do notice also that earth was here first, so that time period (six days of creation) has to do with time here on earth. There may also be time of some sort out there beyond the stars, but no one knows what that may be like. Therefore no one can claim that light took millions of years to get here.
It is not an issue to imagine whether God could have done it faster. He moved the way He wanted and it took 6 days.

I think the words you are looking for are
    Gen 1:1 בְּרֵאשִׁ֖ית H7225 In beginning בָּרָ֣א H1254 created אֱלֹהִ֑ים H430 God אֵ֥ת H853 הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם H8064 the heaven וְאֵ֥ת H853 הָאָֽרֶץ׃ H776 the earth

That is all we have to know. Man wants to have an answer for where we came from, for the Christian [Genesis 1:1] provides that answer.

Even some of our best scientists can come up with some strange ideas of how this all came about:
"Because there is a law such as gravity, the universe can and will create itself from nothing. Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something rather than nothing, why the universe exists, why we exist." Stephen Hawking
    http://www.godandscience.org/apologetics/hawking_no_gods_necessary.html

The question Hawking never answered was why those laws of physics exist? Another thing that is not answered is, if there is nothing then what does gravity work upon to create something?
