Sasse has lived out his Christian faith. He was the original producer of the White Horse Inn podcast which is a fantastic Christian podcast that has encouraged many. Michael Horton has been the host for decades.
Sasse was the President of a small Christian College in Nebraska. He attends a conservative Presbyterian Church. He took 2 weeks to spend in prayer with his family before running for a second term as Senator. If you don't know about Ben Sasse's faith it's not because he's been silent. There was a big protest at the University of Florida by students who hate his stance on marriage between one man and one woman. To top it off Sasse has been married to one woman his entire life.

Trump is a pure Machiavellian. He'd claim to be anything to win.

Sounds like Sasse is a fine Christian man. But…..

The question was… has Ben Sasse ever publicly stated Jesus Christ is his Savior and Lord?

It is a mistake to question someone’s profession of faith based on politics. You don’t know Trump’s motives for his profession of faith but assume the worst.

I’lol take him at his word.

Back to the OP. Trump’s comments were outrageous. I won’t vote for him in the primaries and I hope he’s not the nominee.

    peace to you

What about being the producer of the White Horse Inn with Michael Horton makes you question this. Listen to this podcast and see.
White Horse Inn: Interview with Senator Ben Sasse

As to Trump, his actions speak volumes about his claims of Christianity. He has shown pure Machiavellian behavior.

This thread is not about whether Trump is a true Christian. It’s about what he said about abolishing parts of the constitution to declare him the winner in 2020 or to have a new election.

Start another thread if you want to discuss Trump’s profession of faith. When you start your thread, you can tell us Walmart shoppers what “Machiavellian” means.

    peace to you

Here's another article on Ben Sasse and his Christian faith. You can see the difference between authentic Christianity and claimed Christianity.

Like I said, seems like a good Christian man.

The error you are making is looking at works and declaring people saved or unsaved based on your comparison of their works. To compound your error, your focus on Christian works is biased based on politics.

    That seems pharisaical to me.

You should embrace Trump as a brother in Christ. Don’t worry, you can still disagree with him politically, as I do in this case, without passing judgment on his salvation.

    peace to you

The Bible tells us we can know a believer by their works.
    *James 2:14-26*
What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder! Do you want to be shown, you foolish person, that faith apart from works is useless? Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered up his son Isaac on the altar? You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was completed by his works; and the Scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”—and he was called a friend of God. You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone. And in the same way was not also Rahab the prostitute justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out by another way? For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead.

It's very simple. Donald Trump should be shunned by the Church until he repents. At present, Donald Trump is taking the Lord's name in vain.

Unless you currently have access to Trump’s personal life, which you don’t, you do not know what his daily routine is. You have no idea what charities he supports or if he witnesses to those he comes into contact, or if he prays every day and reads the Bible and seeks God’s guidance in his life. YOU DON’T KNOW.

You are viewing a professing Christian through a political lens and finding fault. You are comparing a man who made a profession of faith in his 70’s to a man raised in a Christian home and being in Christian ministry most of his life and declaring former unsaved.

Bottom line, you are pretending you know, based on political difference, whether God Holy Spirit indwells Trump.

And you disguise your bias with a form of godliness that denies the power of God to change a person’s life, even in their 70’s, and all based on your political hatred of Trump.

    peace to you

He posts on social media everyday. You can read what he's saying and use just an ounce of discernment. Only the person who is willfully closing his eyes and plugging his ears cannot discern the lying that Donald Trump is doing regarding his claim of Christian faith. I stand by my claim. Donald Trump is openly taking the Lord's name in vain. Ben Sasse, whom you now admit is a Godly man, knows Trump personally as a member of the Senate and he has told you that Donald Trump mocks fundamentalist Christians when they cannot hear him. Donald Trump exhibits the spirit of antichrist. I will stand by my statement and God can rebuke me if He wills.

More than anyone else, DT has outed the media as Dem operatives. However, because of their powerful voice and the mindlessness of the masses, they yet hold sway in how something is perceived. They control the narrative, though they did openly worry that DT would upset their stranglehold. Big Tech stepped in big-time to tip the balance back to the Dems.

FTR, the ad presenting DeSantis as a pre-Fall saint is shocking, far more shocking than referring to him as DeSanctimonious. Did DeSantis ever apologize for that?

I would rather that someone would have stepped up prior to Trump and stood for real constitutional principles and policies the way he did. I’ve yet to see anyone else with his guts, his stamina. I’m not sure there is anyone else who could face the onslaught, or willing to try.

But unless they really do something about all of the election shenanigans, it’s unlikely to matter, in which case the Constitution won’t matter.

I understand what you are saying and thanks for the comment. You are correct. DT challenged the elites in both parties and all levels of government and media in a way no one ever has. And he won most of the time because his policy position were right.

The DeSantis ad where the narrator repeatedly says “… and God created a fighter…” is over the top and inappropriate. Trump doesn’t care about the ad. About 40% of what comes out of his mouth is over the top and inappropriate.

He attacked DeSantis just prior to his re-election because he rightly saw him as a competitor for the 2024 nomination. He was attempting to hurt him, lessen his victory. That is super dirty politics and has backfired on Trump. This, and the comment that parts of the constitution should be abolished so he can be declared POTUS from 2020 will cost him the nomination.

The only real question will be how will he respond if he loses the nomination? I don’t think he will run a third party campaign, but he is certainly capable of encouraging his supporters to stay home and not support the winner if it isn’t him.

    peace to you

Donald Trump is an American Oligarch. He is like the Russian Oligarchs who use politics for personal power. It should not surprise us at all that he would call for a suspension of the Constitution or even question it. His goal is power, not the betterment of the United States. He is looking for the betterment of Donald Trump by any means necessary.

How is it that Christians can be so naive about this man??? Is it purely short sightedness or is it a bigger delusion?

Trump cannot be an American oligarch because he’s not part of the oligarch club. The oligarch club of elites in both parties, news media, big tech, military industrial complex, corrupt corps doing business with communists and dictators etc have rejected Trump and stand firmly opposed to him and united with the deep state in attempting to destroy him.

He exposed them. He challenged their corruption. No, Trump is not an American oligarch.

Trump’s policies were focused on Americans, not business. Workers of every race saw wages increase. Trump oversaw the greatest expansion of middle class wages since Reagan.

His goals were clearly on the betterment of the United States and its citizens.

How can Christians be so delusional with hatred for Trump, TDS, they cannot see the good policies he put into place?

Trump was wrong with his suggestion to abolish parts of the constitution so he could be declared the winner of 2020 election. I see it as frustration with the obvious illegal activity against him that will never be prosecuted rather than striving for power.

Nevertheless, it will cost him the nomination

I encourage you to embrace Trump as your brother in Christ and repent of your ill advised tempting of God to rebuke you for your comments (post #30).

    peace to you

He is certainly in the club. He bounced from Democrat to Republican as a means of gaining political power to enhance his economic power. He's in the same line as Vladimir Putin and others whom Satan is using to create havoc and disarray on a worldwide scale. Reading Daniel 10-12 will be helpful for you to see the big picture of what is going on.

I am saying that Trump and Putin are moved like pawns in a war being waged in the spirit world. They are acting as their handlers move them.

Trump used that naming technique from the outset.

But the point about DeSantis is that his ad campaign should easily disqualify him, if we're going to judge everyone by the high standards DT is to be held to.

And again, it is highly doubtful there is another possible candidate capable of withstanding the incessant onslaught, nor any who really present a will to really stand up at all. For all the bluster of his fighter ad, DeSantis does not appear to be such a one.

A Trump-less GOP is a losing proposition. How they manage to treat him will determine whether there is any real chance for them for some time.

But again, until they fix the election rigging, there’s little, if any, hope anyway.

We agree on a lot and I appreciate the exchange, but don’t want to take it to the next level. Don’t want to give the Dems or RINOs any ideas. They already do enough damage as it is.
