If 200 people were ready to crash in an airplane and death was eminent. They cry out to God to save them, promising they will serve Him all the rest of their lives. All of a sudden the pilot is able to pull up and save them from the brink of death.

Was their cry to God real? Or were they using God? Do you think all would go on to fulfill their promise or were they just anxious for their souls? :(

As Ezekiel said of the "dry bones," - "Only You know, Lord!"

It is the heart of the individual that counts. Can't make a blanket statement. I know of just such a case - a man facing certain death riding a parachute into certain death makes a promise to God. God saves him, and the man serves faithfully as a pastor, then military chaplain, then pastor again until retirement. It has happened.

And we know it's possible, because God gloriously saved the theif on the cross that turned to Jesus in his dying moments.

Yes, I am sure God loves being lied to.

Was their cry to God real or done in vain? God can only know the motive in someone's heart.

Acknowledge the God of your father, and serve him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the Lord searches every heart and understands every motive behind the thoughts. 1 Chronicles 28:9 NIV

"Yes, I am sure God loves being lied to."

Humm, didn't realize my mouth had more words in it than I had typed out. Since what I typed doesn't contain "loves being lied to" I must not have spit those out.

Thanks for taking care of that oversight!

You can twist most anything as you have proven :) keep up the good work.

Then what do you mean when you say that?

    Maybe they were sincere.
    Maybe they weren't.
    Only God knows the answer.

Should they fulfill their promise? All promises should be kept, ergo, no promise should be made lightly.

However, I've never, in my entire life, known anyone who kept the promises they made - except GOD. HE keeps His promises, and HE promises to forgive if we ask Him for His forgiveness.
