    Saggy, no

Men are to love their wives. The preacher is not excluded. He is to be an example

I think not too. If he cant handle his family, he cant handle the church.

if a man mistreats his wife, he should not preach. there is a divine order according to 1 Corinthians 11

    God
    Jesus
    Man
    Woman

Would Man want Jesus to mistreat Him?

Yes, and who determines that? If she's like Chaucer's Wife of Bath or Shakespeare's Lady Macbeth, being "treated right" means doing everything exactly the way she wants. Contrapositively, I once ran across a 'Christian Women's' site where a major theme was that they wanted their husbands to spank them before going to bed.

1 Peter 3:7, "You husbands in the same way, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with someone weaker, since she is a woman; and show her honor as a fellow heir of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered."

This question is for SaggyWoman ONLY:

"Right" is a pretty broad term.

Did you have some particular action or lack thereof in mind when you asked this question?

Ah, dear Ophelia, methinks someone doth have a burr under his bonnet regarding the fairer gender!

Well...hmmm...I kind of believe that if married couples want to spank each other before they go to bed, the they don't need approval from the Baptist Board.

If a man, preacher or otherwise, truly loves his spouse, he will abuse his wife, physically, verbally, or emotionally.

Abuse is not love. Also, love is not demanding. Man is to rule his household, yes, but not as a tyrant.

oops, FBC.. lol. insert the word not in there. I am blind and sometimes miss things.

put that 'not' between will and abuse.

    Thanks for pointing that out.

Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; (Ephesians 5:25)

This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work. A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach; Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous; One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity; (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?) (1 Timothy 3:1-5)

I am glad you did, Sister. And ya did it the right way. The Bible says 'Rebuke not an elder, but rather entreat him'.

    Thanks
