I'm disappointed to see Gaither isn't more outspoken about Jesus.Makes me wonder if his motives for being in the music ministry are more financial than evangelical.I'll give him a listen though.

Odemus, Every song he sings is about Jesus.

He's written hundreds of songs about Jesus. He's put out dozens of albums about Jesus. He has a touring show that appears to millions in person and on TV that features nothing but songs about Jesus.

What else do you want the poor guy to do?

He's a musician, not a preacher and he's using his talents for the Lord the best way he can.

Cut the old guy some slack, huh?

I believe the Gaithers success both in the music business is because of the content of their music. Every song they sing is about Jesus. I wish more Christian musicians would follow their model.

    10,000,000 videos at $29.99 each is $299,000,000.

Add the concert ticket sales, merchandise sales, etc. and he probably took in over $1 Billion. Bill Gaither is without any doubt the most successful Christian musician in history. Not to mention that his copyright royalties will bring in millions for his family for many many years to come.

All that money, all those albums, all those concerts... with all that worldly success, then their song, Because He Lives, must be nothing but worldly trash-- by the reasoning of anti-CCM's.

Please, before you say something like that about him, listen to his songs and watch his videos. He is a very godly man who is married to a very godly woman. His concerts are with many other artists who have nothing bad to say about him, except maybe his hair ;)

Bill Gaither, not evangelizing enough, I think that those before me have already said it best!

    Not mention Jesus enough?

    How about Jesus! Jesus! Jesus!
There's just something about that Name!!!

His vocal band had a hit a few years ago and I can only remember the first lines.

He came down to my level,
When I couldn't get up to His.
    (guessing) He picked me up--turned me around;
And showed me what living is!

When you start getting jealous about all those millions, you don't think the $29.00 is profit???

Anyway, they are witnessing to people and blessing the world with the gospel and you and I do not know what they do with all that money.

In Jesus' close group of friends, the only one on record as complaining about money was Judas.

I don't want to be like Judas in my heart, in my heart!
I don't want to be like Judas in my heart.

    In my heart--in my he-a-rt;
I don't want to be like Judas in my heart!!!

    Shalom :D

    Alli

One of the problems many people have when
they see the successes and wealth of another
is that they decry the money. What we do not
see is that the believing wealthy, if, indeed,
the Gaithers are, often give and give until
they are not. Because of their generosity, our
God blesses all the more, opening more ave-
nues, giving them more ideas, nad they just keep
    on giving.

Now, why don't we know this about the Gaithers?
    Because:
    * It is none of our business
    * It is not up to them to toot their own horn
    * It is between them and our God.

What was that one song? Ssomething about as I
keep on givin' and givi', He just keeps on pourin'
    it on.

Let's remember that the Scriptures contain stern warnings for the rich, and Timothy was charged to warn those who are rich in this world's good.

Luke 1:53 He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away.

Luke 6:24 But woe unto you that are rich! for ye have received your consolation.

Luke 18:25 For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle’s eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

1 Timothy 6:9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.

1 Timothy 6:17-18 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate.

Would those going into "music ministry" still do so if it offered them only poverty and suffering? If so, then God bless them.

I have nothing against the Gaithers, (though Southern Gospel is just rock music with a nasal twang) but they are mere men, and the temptations that accompany riches assault them as well.

Don't forget that when Bill and Gloria Gaither started the Bill Gaither Trio, it was in the late sixties when there was no gospel music industry and the vast majority of their records were sold from the trunk of their car.

There's no doubt that Bill Gaither is one of the richest Christian entertainers in teh world (I would guess the richest) but I think he and Gloria toiled in poverty and obscurity long enough to show that they weren't just in it for the money.

Yes....and I still am planning on going into the music business....whether it makes me "rich" or not. God will bless those that do His will!

    GIVEME A BREAK!

Gospel is just another way to praise God!

Sorry, but I think that was slightly uncalled for. If any of you have ever heard the Rochesters sing, you know this can't be true. They were from my church. They taught my daddy when he was little at our Christian school. A finer family I've yet to meet. Their music is most definatly honouring the Lord. They sing Southern Gospel.

I love to hear the Gaithers. We sing "There's Something About That Name" almost every week in church. I love to hear them sing the hymns like PRecious Memories, and I'll Fly Away. Have you heard them sing So Many Reasons? That's one of my favorite songs by them.
Now by no means do I agree with CCM, but Southern gospel is NOT Rock music, and who are we to decide what the Gaithers motives for their singing is. So the Lord blessed them with a good bit of money, but that dosn't mean they are bad people.
    IMHO, Abby

    Abby,

I would consider the Rochesters as "Gospel Blue Grass." We were with them last February at a campmeeting at Calvary Baptist Church in Eufuala, Oklahoma. They are indeed fine people.

    Aaron,

I will agree that Southern Gospel is not today what it once was. It has moved closer to CCM than I like. The style has changed to more of a "Pop" sound than a southern gospel sound.

I still like the old fashioned quartets. My current favorites are The Anchormen, The Dove Brothers, The Palmetto State Quartet, and The Dixie Echos.

In my opinion, the Gaither Vocal Band is not Southern Gospel. They sing some Southern Gospel songs but they are not SG IMO.

PS. Old Friends is a song by Bill Gaither that is not written about Jesus.

That's right. Most of what we are calling Southern Gospel still has a strong backbeat defined by a drum or heavy bass. It's simply a modified form of rock music.

A lot of my friends listen to the Gaither Vocal Band. They don't think it's rock, and I'm not in their face about it either. But it's still rock'n'roll.

I think Smoke would back me up on this one.

I love the Gaither TV show and watch it every chance I get. At times I have wanted to get a video of their show but quickly changed my mind when they indicate the price. I feel their organization places too much emphasis on money and not enough on winning others to Christ. Three times as many video and etc. could be produced and still make money at one-third the price.
The Bible indicates we are not to take advantage of others just because we can. That is what some of the CEO's did that we are all so concerned about now.

The gaither band is rock? That just confuses me...I watched several gaither vidoes and all they use is microphones and occasionally a piano or gaitar

The Gaither CD's I've heard use drums more often than not.
