Matthew 16:20 Tell No Man

    Matthew 16:20 Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ.

    Look at the verses leading up to the verse mentioned to me this is strange language as the 20th verse seems to be out of place.

    13 When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?

    14 And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.

    15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?

    16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

    17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.

    18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

    19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

    What is the purpose of the written Gospel then if according to the living Gospel its all of God? Is it to feed the sheep who belong to the good shepherd only since they are the ones its directed to?

    Who do men say that I the Son of Man am? There are many in the world that believe that Jesus was just another prophet among all the other prophets that came.

    Notice how Jesus direct the next question but whom say ye that I am? The only one to answer his question was Simon Peter... Thou art the Christ the Son of the living God! Why didn't the other disciples answer didn't they know who he was or is this implied and left out.

    Now when it is revealed to Peter by the heavenly Father who his Son is and how Simon Barjona is brought to this realization then and only then can we understand how we are brought there also.

    18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
    19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

    Verse 18 is where the RCC develop their false doctrine because Jesus is telling Peter and every child of God that will come after Peter that the Rock he is building his church on is Jesus The Christ not Peter.

    Then he gives Peter the keys of the kingdom of heaven which to me represents the Gospel because that is the only thing that can loose or bind a child of God in discipleship to their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

    Now after all this why does he tell his disciples to tell no man that he is Jesus Christ?... What are your thoughts on the matter?... Brother Glen :confused:

    Jesus told His disciples not to tell any man He was Jesus the Christ for fear of the Jews. The time of His crucifixion had not yet come, and the Jews sought to kill Him because of His testimony.

    [John 7:1] After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Jewry, because the Jews sought to kill him.

    [2] Now the Jews' feast of tabernacles was at hand.

    [3] His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see the works that thou doest.

    [4] For there is no man that doeth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things, shew thyself to the world.

    [5] For neither did his brethren believe in him.

    [6] Then Jesus said unto them, My time is not yet come: but your time is alway ready.

    [7] The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil.

    [8] Go ye up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast; for my time is not yet full come.

    [9] When he had said these words unto them, he abode still in Galilee.

    [10] But when his brethren were gone up, then went he also up unto the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret.

    [11] Then the Jews sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he?

    [12] And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him: for some said, He is a good man: others said, Nay; but he deceiveth the people.

    [13] Howbeit no man spake openly of him for fear of the Jews.
