If God has a dress code for His children, should we not also apply it to church attendence? At the least, all members (born again folks) attending church should have respect for others in the congregation so as not to distract anyone.

I will agree that a male pastor or minister should not address issues like this as this could lead to accusations against the minister...ie... why were you looking anyway. However, it does need to be addressed by a female in the church. This church may very well have many problems, but if they are ignored to keep the peace, they will only get worse.

I think you should address her about it.

Or you can put up a modesty rail.

Okay I'm 18 and play the piano at my dads church and I would think carefully about what I'd wear on the days I play (rota system) for the comfort of the other members as they are in their 50's and older. However I think you need to remember that the most important thing is that God looks at the inside not the outside of us. Therefore does it matter? Does it not take our focus off God when we worry about what the others are wearing. Maybe I should also add that I don't feel comfortable in mini skirts but now and again I do like to wear a tight top because it feels comfortable for me sometimes. Focus on God not the clothes and you will be fine.

    mage4christ,

I appreciate your input. I praise God that He has given you a talent, and is using you to honor Him and edify the church.

I would like to say that it is commendable that you have concern for the comfort of others when deciding what you wear when you are a worship leader. But, maybe, shouldn't the primary concern be, what Scripture says about it? Rev. G. pointed out a verse to us:

1 TIMOTHY 2:9 - "I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety...appropriate for women who profess to worship God."

Now, you may ask what exactly is dressing modestly, with decency and propriety. That is a tough one to answer sometimes. Sometimes, it is not.

One thing that may help (and this is for anyone who is a worship leader, not just mage4christ). Remember that when you are playing the piano during a worship service, you are a worship leader. A worship leader is not just the person waving their arms trying to lead the music. It is all those who take some sort of active leadership role in the service. The choir, the pianist, the organist, the person who reads the Scripture, etc., are all leaders. That is a role to be taken very seriously.

In worship, God is to be our focus, not people up on stage. So we must, in our demeanor, actions, dress, words, etc., make as absolutely certain as possible, that we are not taking anyone's attention away from God and putting it on ourselves.

So, I guess the bottom line is, be careful. Think carefully about what you wear. Make how something feels secondary to whether or not it glorifies God.

BTW, I am not suggesting that you do not already know all of these things and are not following them. This is all just to give everyone something to think about. Worship is something that God takes very seriously. Therefore, so should we.

    Soli Deo Gloria,

I agree, Music Man, but I also want to add one thing: We, referring to women, do have another responsibilty. Because men can be turned on by phyiscal appearance, we, as women, must take that into consideration when we are looing at what to wear. So, if you're going to be part of the worship service, and even if you're not, keep this in mind, (or ask this question) Is what I am wearing going to cause my brother to stumble?

If there is any hesitiation, then you should not be wearing that type of clothing, comfortable or not. That's just something that I wanted to add.

You're welcome, it's actually one of my pet peaves among youth today, the way that they present themselves!

If in doubt, ask a brother or cousin , or another male, (if you are real close ONLY AS A BROTHER TYPE FRIEND) what would his reaction be if this clothing were seen on another girl.
If you're contemplating something sexy/revealing, don't be incensed at his honest reply.
My son told my daughter once, in a case typical of this, his honest opinion, & she very quickly decided not to persue the issue any further!
    'Nuff said!!
