A quick biblical definition of "antichrist" is the following verse.

Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.
    1 John 2:22

Keep in mind, there is more than just one "antichrist"(1 John 2:18). This spirit is the anti-Christian spirit that opposes everything that is true about Jesus Christ. Recall, the title of the post was Santa Claus is an antichrist. So, does Santa Claus himself oppose everything that is true about Jesus Christ. No, Santa Claus is not real. And, history (and Thomas Cassidy) teaches us that Nicholas of Bari, also known as Nicholas of Myra, was the basis for the legend of Santa Claus. More likely than not, the true St. Nicholas, was a strong Christian and followed the tenements of Christianity, i.e.; not denying the Father and the Son. So, we can surmise that St. Nicholas was not the antichrist either.

So, that brings us to the question. Does the "spirit" of Santa Claus deny the Father and the Son? If the answer is yes, then the "spirit" of Santa Claus is an antichrist. If the answer is no, then he is just a fictional character to fuel the imagination of Children.

I won't go as far as saying Santa Claus is the antichrist but for all means and purposes he might as well be. Christians and non-Christians alike have secularized what should be a time of celebrating the birth of our Lord and Savior and turned it into a wretched commercial abhorrence. Jesus is left out of Christmas and replaced by shopping extavaganzas. It is a season of "ME!, ME!, ME!". What other day of the year do we get invited to a birthday party and bring gifts for ourselves only and not to the one whose bithday it is? :(

How do we evaluate if the spirit of santa claus denys the Father and the Son? How do we evaluate anything else that does not speak specifically about God if it denys God?

Even if the answer is no it seems that people hear are speaking that fueling a childs imagination is evil. . .

    Until Next Post, Adam

"Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you. (Mat 5:11-12 NIV)

    Why thank you Mr. Honeycutt!

I have been following this thread and I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

It is a shame and a mockery of the Christmas celebration that the holiday has been reduced to a commercial free-for-all. Our culture is very, very far away from embracing the true meaning of Christmas.

I thought, however, that Revelation speaks of the anti-christ as a powerful leader who recovers from death  . This is why he is able to fool many people. (Sorry I can't quote from Scripture, my Bible is at home.) I don't think that Santa fits the bill ;) .

IMHO, there are many more pressing issues for Baptists to spend time on. Issues like witnessing, mission work, and stregnthening communities and churches. As someone said on another thread: 'No wonder people think we're idiots.'

    Mr. Wells
Were you feeling persecuted, or convicted? Dont confuse the two. Also check out v.5 & v.7 same chapter.

By the way passive aggressiveness is unbecoming.

As it has already been stated, twice I believe, the preson that started this thread
said "an anti-christ" not "the". Jesus taught that if you are not for him you are against him. Anything that is OF the world, is not of Christ. We have to be IN the world, but we are not to be PART of it.
Whatsoever is not of Faith, is sin. Can you have Faith in something that does'nt exist?

    Joseph,

    You make me laugh... :D

The biggest problem with Santa Clause for me is that it takes away from the real meaning of Christmas.

Which really is we are celebrating the birth of Jesus and it does not stop at his birth but His life and that He died for our sins and ALL our sins.

Now this might be getting off the subject but who ever heard of getting together to celebrate someone else's birthday and give each other gifts????

    Any thoughts.

I agree with all those who said with courage that Santa is wrong. Santa is wrong. He is
more than just a simple cartoon character such as popeye, who I grew up with. Certianly Popeye can be easily identified with just a fake character. But Santa is a tangible person who can be seen in person, kids can touch him and sit on his lap. They also believe that Santa will fill their desires and also believe that Santa really does do that on December 25. Santa also should be looked at closer in light of the fact that he is intertwined with the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. This makes him a spiritual character that does often take the place of God’s attributes that alone should belong to God. Santa is considered omni*. Only God can fulfill these rolls. He is a lie, and lying to our children is wrong. Most kids are very susceptible to everything we teach them, they truly believe in us. How can we lie about such a big issue, then turn around and expect them to believe in what we have to say about Jesus? Perhaps they do believe us, but why even run the risk of distorting their views? Why not just tell them the truth? I promise you this would be better than trying to build up some imagination.

Christ-Mass is something my wife and I do not celebrate. First of all in studying the
origins it is found that Christmas is pagan and has been introduced to Christianity through the RCC. Secondly it is also a lie, as the “Christmas” story is different than the Biblical account of Jesus birthday. Therefore we don’t want to support this lie. Thirdly, the Scriptures do not teach us to celebrate Jesus birthday, and if they did I guarantee no lost person would want to. I don’t think any birthday should really be celebrated. Just take a look at what happened on one celebration - John the Baptist was murdered. Fourthly and mostly we believe this is a worldly holiday. The same people we witness to who only laugh at us, and mock Jesus, use His name in vain, and live ungodly unthankful lives then just all of a sudden want to celebrate His birthday? I don’t think so. And when they do celebrate our Jesus’ birthday they do it by getting drunk, stealing, and going in debt because the gift we buy measures the love we have. This is not a Christian event, Jesus was never in Christmas, and He most certainly is not in it now.

Now don’t misunderstand this. Spending time with family and friends is wonderful. Eating ham or turkey is very wonderful, and corn, and mashed potatoes and pie and and
O.K. I will stop. (Mmmmmmm) Being cozy indoors when there is a fire is also wonderful. Winter time is Chet time!! I love it cold and snow is great! Hey Give me a nice cold morning in the woods with a gun in my hand, that is living! Giving presents is also a good thing , but not to celebrate Jesus birthday, and not just one time a year.

Psalms 145 I wonder the reaction you would have received had you posted this in
December? Unfortunately I know that answer.

    With great love,

    Chet

I agree with Chet and others who posted their courageous views about Santa Claus. Who in their right mind would teach their children about the truth of Jesus and the lie of Santa Claus in the same breath? Then years later you get to explain to your child that the one was true and the other a lie. HOw is your child ever supposed to believe you again about anything you tell them? :(

Actually it was also discussed at great length last year around Dec. on the old BB. Too bad that old thread wasn't still around. I remember (I think it was Dr. Bob ) saying that those who didn't believe wouldn't get any presents. Anyway, guess you had to be there~~~ :D

That reminded me of a skit that the youth at our church put on for Christmas. It was "Jesus' Babysitter". Two teenage girls are spending the night together and talking about the kids they babysit. The one that babysat for Jesus was telling the other girl how good he was to watch. Then she remembered His birthday was coming up and thought they should do something special for Him. The other girl said
"Hey I have an idea, lets go chop down a tree, bring it in the house and decorate with it pretty stuff!"
Jesus' Babysitter replied "Now why would we do that?"
The other girl: "I don't know, just a thought.... Hey, I know, lets get my Uncle Benny to dress up in a red suit and have him say 'Ho Ho Ho'!"
Jesus' Babysitter replied "Now why would we do that?"
The other girl: "I don't know, just a thought....
Hey, I know, let's go buy a bunch of presents and wrap them up with ribbons and bows!"
Jesus' Babysitter replied "Yeah! That's a good idea! Jesus is such a good child, he will like getting presents!"
The other girl: "Not for Him! For us! We will buy presents for us!"
Jesus' Babysitter replied "Why would we buy presents for ourselves on someone else's birthday?"
The other girl replied "I don't know just a thought"
Jesus' Babysitter replied "Whose birthday was it anyway?"
The other girl replies "I don't know, I forgot"

Well, it sort of went like that. Hey, they did a better job then I did! What can I say? *hehe* They pretty much made fun of all of our "traditions" that took the meaning out of the Lord's Birthday (those are just the ones I remember). Then they read the story of Christ's Birth from the Bible. It was funny and sad at the same time.

I get to where I despise the holiday season. Last Christmas I was working part time at a retail store. All the Christmas gadgets on the shelf, all the spending, all the hustle and bustle. As Chet said "This is not a Christian event, Jesus was never in Christmas, and He most certainly is not in it now.
