    Can I confess I generally don't like Christmas songs? I much prefer Easter music. If pressed, I would say "O Holy Night."

    (An exception is granted for Handel's "For unto us a child is born" and "Glory to God," but you don't hear carolers singing them very often.)

    I like Charles Wesley's "Come Thou Long Expected Jesus" We sing this year around....I guess it is not really a Christmas song,more of a song referring to His redemptive purposes.

    O Holy Night

    One of the most reverent songs sung. The words are in proper context, the music uplifts the soul. Justified and I both find this the best hymn.

    My second favorite is O Come Emmanuel. Gregorian chant, sung acapella.

    Justified goes for the Negro Spiritual, I Wonder as I Wander.

    More than one, and perhaps in this order:
    1. We Three Kings of Orient
    2. Joy to the World (definitely shouldn't be limited to Christmas)
    3. O Holy Night
    4. What Child is This
    5. Silent Night

    "While shepherds watched their flocks" by Nahum Tate is a very close to scripture song based on Luke 2. The common Christmas tune for the hymn, though, is not one of my favorites. We sing it to a different tune in some circles.

    My all time favourite Christmas song is Good King Wenceslas:

    The last stanza reads:

    In his Master's steps he trod,
    Where the snow lay dinted,
    Heat was in the very sod,
    Which the Saint had printed;
    Therefore, Christian men, be sure,
    Wealth and rank possessing,
    Ye who now will bless the poor,
    Shall yourselves find blessing.

    If I may choose a secular song, I have a particular liking for one sung by the group Alabama called Christmas in Dixie. It embodies everything about the season and the kind of world I want to be a part of.

    I was corrected today by a brother "NEGRO Christian" who was offended at my use of the term "NEGRO". :rolleyes:

    It is "AFRICAN AMERICAN SPIRITUAL"! :D

    Personally, it seems to lose some of the grace it seems to have by changing the term. :(
