We need Cynic on the BB. He quotes scripture and refers back to what people have stated. If we ever had a live online debate, Id put a bet on him!

    Beg to differ, friend.

In the case of your tithes being used in such a way that people are saved, there will be no storehouse that we know of capable of receiving it (the souls that are saved as a direct result of your offering).

God's house, on the other hand, gladly welcomes each and every soul you may never meet but has received Him as their savior because you did something as simple as tithing. And each soul that gets saved because that person told them the Word is a direct result of your tithe. And each soul that's led to the Lord because of those souls, and so on and so on.

The ultimate pyramid scheme, if you will. But all a result of you putting your tithe in the offering plate.

No storehouse shall be able to receive it, except God's.

Any attempt to ascribe the Jewish practice of tithing to the New Testament church requires a twisting of the Scripture.

What's wrong with giving what you are able with a cheerful heart?

Overall, the church would probably do a better job if it did not have as much money as it does. Maybe then the church would depend more on God and not so much on money.

I am able to give all, for the Lord is the one who blesses me with all that I have.

It is His and He has allowed me; He has trusted me, that I would be about His business.

Tithe means to trust. But God does not even want you to do it if you are not humble. Luke 18: 9-14

Even people who are good, that do not know the Lord do give things.

    Terry, I must fervently disagree.

The church I attend doesn't have enough income from its members to retain the pastor full time. We support three missionaries, and are the sending church for another (right now, we pay pretty much all of his support).

But we still need to keep the electricity and heat going, and the insurance paid up, and the water turned on. There are some months that are a bit harder than others.

Give with a cheerful heart? ALWAYS. But always think about what your giving is accomplishing; for me, it's keeping the doors to God's house open so that people in our area can come and hear the Word. I'm glad you seem to be a member of a financially prosperous church; I wish we all were.

With the guarantees of Malachi 3 to the Israelites being unverified the same as to NT Christians, this is another attempt to redefine the meaning into something untestable.

The ultimate pyramid scheme, if you will. But all a result of you putting your tithe in the offering plate.

It's Amway, is it? Where's the next convention?

Don, by your own admission you are giving cheerfully. That is not the kind of giving I am questioning.

I am referring to people being pressured and coerced by Scripture, like the one in Malachi that has been taken out of context, in order to use it for a purpose that God did not intend. Because, if God had intended the Scripture in Malachi to apply to the local new testament Church, He would have had one of the new testament writers include it in his writings. God did not do this.

The obvious reason is that God wants Christians to give out of love not because of law.

I haven't read any of the posts.

    But this is my opinion.

I personally think it is the discipline of giving that God attunes to, not if it is this church or that. I believe He wants us to be active somewhere, and that is where we are to give.

But, if it is in the middle stages, give where you go.

Why not get a youth pastor who is in the Tentmaker ministry? Acts 18:3

Thank you for your help, especially those 1st few responses that have actually been there and had the same questions that we have had. We have decided to give to the Churches that we visit until deciding on a new Church. I had always been taught that the "Tithe" goes to the local church and still feel the most comfortable with that position. Thanks for the help!.....
