    Dear Michael,

You are living in the Bible Belt of the United States. There are more Baptist churches probably in Nashville, TN. than anywhere else in the US. I would look in the phone book under Independent Fundamental Baptists and call the churches and ask them two questions. What Bible they use and Do they preach standards. The answers should be the KJV and yes!

    Hope you find one soon,
    Missionary to Mexico

Or better yet, contact any Baptist church and ask them for their doctrinal beliefs. (Steer far away from a KJVO church!) Where do they stand on the inerrancy of Scripture, the deity of Christ, the atonement of Christ, the exclusivity of the gospel, etc? Most churches should be able to provide you with this either on the phone, or preferably by mail or email. If they can't, avoid them.

I agree, Chris. There's certainly nothing wrong with the KJV. In fact, it's one of the translations I keep on my desk for study.

The only problem, in my experience, is that KJVO's tend to be extremely legalistic.

Michael, I'm a little familiar with the Nashville/Mid-south area. Is there any particular strand of Baptist that you had in mind? IFB, SBC, ABC, etc?

Nashville is the headquarters for the SBC so I'm sure they could help. I think they're at http://www.sbc.org

By the way, Michael, where in Ireland are you from? My father came from Derry and my mother's family is from Co. Mayo.

    Chris T:

What do u mean "where do they stand on the inerrancy of the scriptue?" Then you say steer clear of a KJVO church? Then what you must be saying is there can be no inerrency of scripture for any othe version is certainly in error.

...and War Eagle if a church ahs Bible standards they are legalistic bad advice from both of you!
-Search for a church with strong Bible standards, and stand by the inerrant Word of God. My God is able to preserve His Word, and has done so with the KJV for English speaking people. God has also preserved His Word in other languages and these were translated form the same text as the KJV.

    Pastor Larry,

Apparently, you missed the day when they taught that Mexicans speak Spanish!!! I was giving an answer for someone in Tennessee. If you were to ask me what Bible we use here in Mexico, I would tell you that we use the Reina-Valera. The Reina-Valera was also translated from the Textus Receptus, and in fact is an older translation than the King James and was used as a reference by the translators of the King James Bible.

Sincerely, Missionary to Mexico with help from her husband

    Ernie,

When did I say that if a church has Bible standards they are legalistic?

As I said, I keep a copy of the KJV handy but it's hardly the only reliable version.

What I actually said was that in my experience, when a church believes in KJV only, they tend to be legalistic.

I stand by that statement. That has been my experience with churches that allow their members to use only the KJV.

What's more, many of the ideas put forth on these boards by KJV only people bear this out.

Oh boy, steaming KJVonlyer ranting and raving thread # 2,341,836! Ernie, read the threads in the Translations forum. You might want to get your doctor's advice before you begin reading though!

No actually I was quite aware that they speak Spanish. I thought perhaps you had missed that.

The Reina Valera is not identical to the KJV. Therefore one of them has to be wrong unless you are arguing that there is more than one "Word of God."

I'll not waste any more time in this thread. Their is none so blind as those who refuse to see.
Some here have made up their mind that God is unable to preserve His Word. That man can arbitrarily change what God said.

Satan must love this bickering over Bible versions and cheap shots. The Baptists are now getting into the cultists attitude of I am right and everyone else is going to hell attitude. It is turning a denomination of believers into enemies. Comprimise of morals and doctrine are destroying the body of Christ.

Personally I go to a church that is KJV only and I love it and it is far from legalistic. I had left a legalistic church and now am in a great church and I would have it no other way.

My personal advice is stick to the doctrines especially salvation by grace through faith and not of works and baptism by immersion. Those are two very basic things but what I am trying to say stick to what the Word says and decide for yourself what kind of church you want to go to and if you have a strong conviction concerning versions then so be it and if you don't then go somewhere else.

Only the Lord can convict us we can only change ourselves but by praying for others the Lord can change others. All this arguing will not change someone but prayer will.

    Dear Michael,

I found a church address for you. It is:

    South Haven Baptist Church
    116 Academy Dr.
    Springfield, TN 37172
    215-348-5073
    Pastor Gagliano
    [email protected]

My husband and I visited this church in December of last year and we really enjoyed it. It is about 20 minutes north of Nashville. Hope you are able to visit them some time.

To everyone: I have exactly one day experience posting replies to any forum on the internet. I did not mean to start a controversy. I saw that no one had bothered to reply to Michael's request for five days so I thought I would tell him what I would do.

    Pastor Larry,

My husband has told me that there are two(?) main types of KJVO groups. One group believes that the KJB is the only Bible that is the word of God and that all other Bibles must be translated from the KJB. There are people in this group right now who are translating the KJB to Spanish. We however, are not in this group. The second group believes that there are two main texts used to translate Scripture. One is the Textus Receptus and the other is the Westcott and Hort. We believe that only Bibles translated from the Textus Receptus are the word of God. Catholics in Mexico have translated the Bible from the Westcott and Hort. The Reina Valera, however, like the King James, was translated from the Textus Receptus. Like I said earlier, the people who translated the King James even used the Reina Valera as a reference tool in the translation process because the Reina Valera was translated in 1569 and the King James not until 1611. I hope this clarifies things a bit.
