WASHINGTON (Sept. 13) - President Bush declared Friday a day of ''prayer and remembrance'' to honor the victims of this week's terror attacks.

''On Tuesday morning, Sept. 11, 2001, terrorists attacked America in a series of despicable acts of war,'' Bush said in a statement Thursday. ''Civilized people around the world denounce the evildoers who devised and executed these terrible attacks.''

Earlier, an Arabic online newspaper reported that the Taliban had put bin Laden under house arrest, but Taliban sources told the Afghan Islamic Press news agency that the report was “false and fabricated".

A total of 18 hijackers were on the planes, Attorney General John Ashcroft said.

There were five on each of two planes and four each on the other two, and the FBI says all 18 on the four planes were ticketed passengers.

Earlier, the Justice Department said that at least one hijacker on each plane was trained at a U.S. flight school and that well over 50 people may have been involved in the hijackers' well-financed operation. Federal authorities have reportedly established the identity of 40 of the plotters, including 12 of the hijackers.

Among them is 33-year-old Mohammed Atta, a trained pilot whose U.S. drivers license was recovered in the debris and lists an address in Florida.

Another hijacker has been identified as Satan Suqami, a Saudi Arabian citizen whose passport was found in the wreckage and who authorities say was aboard the American Airlines plane that crashed into Tower Number One.

Additional hijackers are being identified as Marwin al Shehhi, Ali Muhammed al-Darmaki, Adnan Bukhari and Ameer Abbas Bukhari, all of whom are believed to have taken flying lessons at a flight school in Florida.

    Flight recorder found!

Investigators searching through the debris from the hijacked airliner that crashed in Pennsylvania found the plane's flight data recorder today, the Justice Department reported.

    Cheney Moved to Camp David

Vice President Dick Cheney was moved today to Camp David as ``a purely precautionary measure.''

So you think that being filled with hatred, and the desire for vengence(for the sake of vengence, not legal reprcussions) is biblical/christlike?

I do agree they do owe us legally, and should stand trial. We exacuted McVeigh, we should also exacute who ever did this. And if a country harbors those guily, then the guilt becomes theirs also. But what I am talking about is whats in the christian heart. Biblically what we are to do and think and feel, personally, not nationally. They are two different things.
Unforgivness does not harm the unforgiven, but the one who refuses to forgive. Of course they do not desreve to be forgiven, IMO(by us as a country), but whats in my heart has nothing to do with what thay deserve.I should only ask myself if my relationship with God desreves to have the wedge of unforgivness seperating me from Him. That and serve satan is all unforgivness can do.

Katie I don't think that's what John was trying to communicate. I think we would all agree that we are responsible for the condition of our hearts and need to keep an accurate careful check on that. I agree with John completly about the issues of war and how we are told in the bible that it is something that we must do when another rises against our nation. But no, I don't think we have to do it with gladness! We need to make sure that we are doing so for righteousness sake, not just to add to the mayhem. And I believe that if and when we do strike, it is being done for the right reasons. I am very sad for any who lose their life because of it, especially the ones who do not know God. But, we know that God has a purpose for everything. We can be at peace knowing that.

I would agree, but this not what I have been hearing him say.

    Katie,

See my post in the thread above this one. Thank you for challenging my position. That's how we all learn. When God sent His chosen leaders of Israel into battle after battle in the OT, He did not give them a righteousness sermon. He told them to go get the job done! There's nothing pretty about killing someone. No sane person derives joy from the act. I spent 20 year proudly serving and defending this great country in the US Air Force. Although I never had to look someone in the eye and pull the trigger, I did my part to contribute to the Gulf War success. Had men and women not defended the freedom of this country then and for the last 225 years I can assure you we would not be free.

Deuteronomy 13:5 The false prophets or dreamers who try to lead you astray must be put to death, for they encourage rebellion against the Lord your God, who brought you out of slavery in the land of Egypt. Since they try to keep you from following the Lord your God, you must execute them to remove the evil from among you. (NLT) Islam is a false religion and bin Laden is a false prophet.

Fifty or sixty years ago we developed the atom bomb in a project called the "Manhattan Project" (no, it wasn't done in Manhattan).

Now, we are going to war against those who have attacked Manhattan.

Wouldn't it be poetic if... ;)

    Hey, been reading the posts.

I have to tell you all, I need your prayers.

There are times when I don't know myself, lately. There are times when this whole crisis has made me think, and maybe even say, things that are not very Christ-like.

For this same reason, I will pray for all of you, too. We all need each other's prayers.

Now, for some complete and totally baseless speculation. Is that allowed?

I have been listening to a few call-in shows. And no, I won't tell you which ones. Good grief, talk about forming an opinion on somebody based on the talk radio shows he listens to.

There has been some talk about a National ID card. People saying, "hey, it might be a good idea."

I know it's baseless, but it made me think about the mark of the beast, or the number of his name.

You know, they kick around the National ID card idea first, but then they say, "hey, we can do better than that, we already have child implants, we could put GPS technology on them, if we wanted."

To which the host inevitably says, "Yes, but they would know everything you bought, they would know everywhere you went. Would you be willing to give up that kind of privacy for the sake of public freedom, and safety?"

Most say, "Yes, I would make that sacrifice." In other words, it would be regarded as an act of PATRIOTISM.

(the argument they preclude is that if a national id card was issued, only those included in the card's programs could buy or sell. Thus, it also implies that certain others could be excluded from having said card, and not be able to buy or sell, or travel, or buy airplane tickets.)

I was thinking, isn't it weird, how easily society could be tricked into accepting such a thing?

The one surefire defense against someone being able to fly on an airplane, or buy and sell goods, would be to make it mandatory for an identification device to be used.

Then, all you have to do, is exclude/disqualify those people you don't want to use it.

Just a thought. And maybe it would be better on another thread. But I saw this one was active, and if you want it somewhere else, or if you want to discuss it, please tell me.

Seems like the crisis could precipitate a precursor to the actual mark.

I don't know. But I always thought the mark would come into existence as naturally as Cool Whip on shortcake.

    In His Steps, (hopefully)

    YOU ARE SO CORRECT!!!

On another message board, and a few other places on the internet, I'm seeing "let's all unite!" In the news, different sources, stuff from the UN, stuff from NATO, I'm seeing "let's all unite!"

Warning, my brethren: This incident is already being used to ignite a "unified" world.

I don't like Hagee or the 700 Club people; however, they put out a decent series of movies called Apocalypse, Revelation, Tribulation, and Judgement; I thought they were entertaining, and I even showed Tribulation to a group of teens (got them thinking hard!). But I thought they were somewhat hokey...until I was called a "hater" for posting this warning elsewhere....

Afghanistan's ruling Taliban militia on Friday blasted the United States for singling out Usama bin Laden as the prime suspect in connection with Tuesday's attacks, warning of "revenge" if the United States attacked their country.

"Oh, Muslims of the world, we should unite together if the United States attacks us,"
Reuters reported a cleric as saying during Friday prayers at a mosque in the capital Kabul.

The theme was repeated across the capital as thousands of Afghans attended prayers on the Muslim holy day - while also making plans to flee the city in fear of U.S. military action. Foreign nationals and relief workers continued to stream out of Afghanistan in anticipation of a U.S. strike.
