They don't realize they're doing this. Our enemies keep up with news in the US. They see our division and it gives them reason to hold out until we just give up. Our troops in the feild end up paying the price for their protest. It does work that way.

The Democrats joined the Republicans in voting against the draft bill. The only reason it was introduced was to get both Bush and Kerry to talk about the issue. Common sense tells you that if we continue to invade other countries and "spread democracy" around the world that we will have to get the troops from somewhere.

    Fine,I can understand that.

I was opposed to the draft because I was draft age during the Viet Nam War.

I was also opposed to the War in Vietnam. But I went and I served my full year and I didn't whine about it.

So if you were drafted and ordered to go to Iraq you would not go?

I guess I wouldn't have a choice, it would be either go and fight in Iraq, or go to jail. If I were drafted and ordered to go to Iraq, I would not go quietly, and would let everyone know that I did not support Bush and his unconstitutional invasion of Iraq.

I will do everything I can to make sure the draft is NOT re-instated so we will NOT have to find out how I would respond if I were drafted.

Election smokescreen or are they actually serious about restarting the draft?

I think they want everyone to talk about it, I think they have honest fears that the draft will be re-instated if Bush or Kerry continue this new foriegn policy of "spreading democracy" around the world.

People, the conversation here is beginning to represent one that should not happen between fellow believers.
Please remember to consider your words carefully before posting. War is a sensitive topic, and there are those who have been through it and at the same time others who cannot grasp the concept of all it entails. That doesn't make either one's opinions automatically void, but still we need to understand that no matter which side we're on in the issue we're all on the same side in the big picture.
I don't like having to close topics on a Christian board. Please don't give me any reason to. It's a sad statement on an open Christian board when that has to happen.

Spreading democracy around the world is not new policy.

But now we are fighting terrorists. If forced to invade a country led by a dictator or dictatorial party what else should we try to install? I don't see anything better than a democratic form of government.

On the draft its clear that Kerry has proposed to raise troop levels. It will either be through more volunteers or he would have to support a draft. I think volunteer is the way to go and I think it can be done that way but because of his past stances I don't think Kerry can accomplish it. Bush has the better support here and can probably get it done without a draft.

Our church has 3 fathers in Iraq right now and we're VERY proud that these young men volunteered to serve our country!

As a Vietnam era vetran and also a Desert Storm vetran, I wish I could be back in the military. You see most of us who have served and serve now are proud about doing service for this country.

It is the Government who decides what is best for our counrty and it is our military who fight the battles as directed. I will support the Iraq war as I nor you have all the information to know if it is right or wrong, history will tell us the truth one day.

But, this is my country and I choose to die for it if necessary period. Cry all you want but as a great man once stated, "give me liberty or give me death." Remember 9/11 and who broght it to us.

People talk as if terrorism started on 9/11. Terrorism has been around for over 1400 years, and will be around untill Jesus Christ returns.

There is no military, including the US military that can end terrorism, or "rid the world of evil".

All thats true but 9-11 caused a definite change in the way most people seem to think. Before terrorism happened and people mostly saw it as a shadow cast by someone far away.

Now they see it as a direct threat to themselves which in fact it is.

Look, [snipped], My father was a WWII veteran, and I lost a brother to Agent Orange in Viet Nam. I was next to go, right on the verge, and thankfully the mess ended before I had to. I've never had to fight in a war, but at least have worked very hard, giving up family time, money, and at times a measure of health, to try to turn the political situation in our country.

DON'T YOU EVER ACCUSE ME OF BLOOD GUILT FOR OUR SOLDIERS, YOU [snipped]. If you can't defend your childish positions without maling [snipped] out of yourself, why don't you stick to video games.
</font>[/QUOTE]Thank you for your well-thought out and reasoned response. *deleted*
