    Hello,

    Much to my chagrin :( I discovered that the "Music" topic is only for Baptists, wich I am not!

    So, are there any musicians here?

    I play electric guitar in the Worship group(contemporary...mostly "Vineyard" style) at church, and I also play acoustic guitar and dobro in a bluegrass band.

    Any 'grassers around here? :D

    Bro. Curtis does. He is Baptist. And if I am not mistaken he likes Bluegrass.

    I play the CD player real good. :D

    My favorite female bluegrass singer, Rhonda Vincent, is from Missouri. Lots of good bluegrass in Missouri!

    And those CD players have such a quick "learning curve" to them! You cant beat that part of it, for sure. :D [​IMG]

    I pretend to play acoustic 6 & 12 strings and a Strat.

    I play new (hillsongs etc) songs when I have to, but much rather the hymns.

    I had a test drive of a Dobro/National type thing once. Beautiful looking guitars....Pity about the tone [​IMG] ;) :D

    We have a pathetic folk scene here in Worcester. It's all the singer-songwriter, poor me, why don't you love me anymore, coffeehouse stuff. I have to travel about 20 miles west to get with like-minded folk. My brother Jim also has a nice Martin and the two of us play in an acoustic duo. We've played mostly private functions, everything from children's birthday parties, to biker rallies.

    I've had a Telecaster, a Stratocaster, and an Ibanez 5-string bass for a long time.(I'm 41) But they don't see much daylight, lately. I gave up the rock & roll stuff. I have a studio in my apartment, and will record with people, but my preference is acoustic.

    My daughter has been taking piano lessons for 3 years now, and I got her a Samick Artist mandolin and taught her the D, C, and G chords.

    Anyways, I hope Mike McK comes on and adds his words here.

    Hey D28,

    I play guitar, mandolin, piano, and a little banjo.

    I've got a group that I jam, with on Thursday nights and some folks that I get together with every now and then to play but I'm not in a band right now.

    I'd like to put one together to play Christian alt.country/Americana but there really is no Christian alt.country/Americana.

    Here in the Upper Chesapeake area, we have a great bluegrass scene.

    Bob Paisley, Dean Sapp, Ted Lundy and Alex Campbell and Olabelle Reed are all from the area. Bob Paisley and Dean Sapp perform around here nearly every week. We also have a couple of churches and a couple of clubs who sponser a lot of bluegrass and folk, as well as one of the best bluegrass festivals in the country.

    as for my singing..... I take encouragement from the psalmist who said "make a joyful noise unto the Lord" It may not be tune ful, but its joyful

    Do beginners count? I am a beginning pianist and vocalist. But I am a professional listner. I love music.
    I havn't heard much bluegrass since 1972. I don't like the "new" stuff, but I am big on classical music, elevator music and Sacred music. And Ray Boltz who falls in there somewhere. :confused:

    hmm. When I was in high school band I played the flute and the french horn, but haven't for a few years now. :\

    I play piano, organ, and flute and am a private voice/piano teacher. Right now, I have 13 students and we will have our Christmas recital next Sunday afternoon. I got a BA(voice/piano) and MM (voice/composition) and plan to go back for DMA (voice/composition) when munchkins are older. I like most types of music - especially opera and musicals. Also like country music and oldies (like Irving Berlin, etc) I'd LOVE to learn to play guitar someday. There's nothing like a good ol' acoustic!!

    Hi Curtis,

    Yeah, I like my D-28 a whole bunch, but I gotta say...I've heard good things about the D-16 series as well. I plyed a D-16 GT once and it was really nice.

    I know what you mean about the "sorry for me" folk scene. It must be depressing! We have some of that around here, mostly because I live close to a bigger city, but out here in the country where we live we have lots and lots of bluegrass.(I live in Kentucky)

    I have a telecaster, but I play mostly my Les Paul at church, but thats the only time I touch the electric. Gimme my "28" and my dobro, and I'm a happy man! (except when my wife is trying to sleep!)

    I notice you mentioned Tony Rice. What do you think of Norman Blake?

    I know you do. I'm Mike711 at crosswalk! When I registered here I used my username at a bluegrass discussion site by mistake, but just kept it.

    All the more reason to put a group like that together!

    I didnt know New Jersey was considered the "Chesapeake" area. I always thought of that as down around Virginia. Glad to hear theres a lot of bluegrass up there, though.

    Course they do! You will never regret starting. Practice a bit to get all the basic stuff down, but once you get past that and dont have to think about the basic stuff anymore, you have no idea what a blessing it is. God will move right in and bless it and start using it for His glory!

    Oh man, I got a good laugh out of your user name! That is a great one! And that little hand on your cheek in the picture, is that "IttybittyTot"?

    Sounds like you have your hands full musically with all those assorted letter combinations! I have a TTGY in Music.(Just..."Try To Get By")

    Actually, I seem to have inherited my mothers gift for music. I cant read music or anything, but back in 1979 I bought a cheap guitar, and with no lessons or anything was playing Neil Young, Bob Dylan, and James Taylor songs in no time.

    The thing I like about the acoustic guitar is that you can take it anywhere. When I was young my mom tried to get me to learn the piano(thats what she played...by ear of course) but it just never "took". It wasnt where my heart was. I just loved the sound of the guitar. In addition to what I mentioned in my 1st post, I also have a classical guitar. I LOVE to play hymns instrumentally, fingerstyle, on it. Those melodies, I am convinced, are every bit as anointed as the wonderful words.

    hmmmm this must be some new usage of the word "wonderful" that I have not encountered previously... ;) ;)

    But seriously folks...I love what Mark Knopfler does on his National, and can handle a slide blues player on them now and then, but as for myself I'll stick with the Samicks and Strat [​IMG]

    ...Uh-oh...I'm in trouble...Fingerstyle on a classical guitar, a REAL guitar player :eek: [​IMG]

    I made a rule going back a bit to never draw a guitar when there is a better player around. Something I learnt from watching John Wayne movies I suspect...But anyway...

    Sometimes I amaze myself with how much I can get away with on guitar. I have been to 2 jam sessions at new Church in last 5 weeks. They keep inviting me back, guess they fell for it too [​IMG]
