Have you ever been fired?

Yes. I got hires as an assistant buyer, and they decided they wanted someone with a little more managerial experience. They did so within my probationary period. I got a generous severance and gat a job the next week.

I was working there one night, just me and another guy (Joe) and the manager (Bill) was not there. He phoned and asked me to decorate some cakes, which I did. However, a few of them were purchased and I had to decorate more. Plus, towards the end of the shift, the store went from dead to crazy busy, and the line was out the door, so I quit decorating cakes and went to help Joe serve customers. It was half an hour past closing time when we were done, so I just threw the cakes I had decorated in the storage freezer and we left.

The next morning Bill called me to ask why I hadn't decorated any cakes. I said I did, there are three all decorated and ready to go in the freezer. "Why only three?" he said. I told him that it got busy and that I went to help Joe. Bill replied that he had reviewed the receipts and sales were no higher than usual, so it couldn't have been that busy, and I should have done more than three, so.... don't bother coming back tomorrow!

To this day I don't know what the problem was. Bill also mentioned that he'd noticed I'd been slacking off and he couldn't afford to keep me around. To my knowledge I hadn't been slacking, although I admit I could have done so without realizing it. Bill had never mentioned this to me before, in fact he had always thanked me for my hard work. I also told him to ask Joe about it. Joe told me later that Bill did ask him, saying that I told him I decorated four cakes but he only found one. Joe told him that I was indeed working that night, and that if I said I did four, I did four.

And about not being able to afford keeping me around... I don't know WHAT he was thinking. I earned $7.25/hr. There were at least three others there (including Joe) that earned $11.25. TO SCOOP ICE CREAM! And he couldn't afford to keep ME around.

Anyway, there's my story.

I got fired from a company for pointing out to the boss that the company was committing interstate fraud.

In the wake of the firing, I promptly reported it to the state attorney general and the postal authorities and went on my way. They made it difficult for me to land another job for awhile because they kept lying when companies would call for a reference. I got an attorney and we sent them a letter confronting them with their allegation and told them we would use a service to check my reference with them in the future, and if they didn't tell the truth they would have a lawsuit on their hands. They finally left me alone and I went my own way.

It was a very ugly mess.

 

I've had one job and got fired. But it wasn't anything I did. The girl I replaced owed money to the employer, and she wanted to come back to work and the employer saw it as the only way to get her money back, it was $2,000 so she was worried not to get it. So I ahd to go, the other girls I worked with told her I was doing good, and would make it. It was spray painting concrete statues that my husband makes, about 12 years ago. Since then I've gotten pretty good at painting,and she has seen some of my stuff, and her sister said you mean you fired her. The other girl worked a while and was off again, never did pay all of it back. My husband still works for her too.

I was fired from a job I had for about three years. I was a hired hand on a pig farm here in Iowa. I was paid $4.00 per hour and they farmer paid me with pigs rather than writing a check. He also had me "hired" on as a sub-contractor and I had to take care of my own taxes and social security. Being "fired" from this job was the best thing that ever happened to me. I was being taken advantage of and never realized it.

If I had not been "fired" I would have never joined the Army, if I'd never joined the Army I would have never gotten my enlistement bonus, if I'd never received my enlistement bonus I would have never bought the new motorcycle, if I'd never bought the motorcycle I would have never met my lovely wife, if I'd never met my lovely wife I would never have my four great kids. The Lord is at work, even on some smelly pig farm by getting a "wet-behind-the-ears" kid fired from a lousy job.

No, but I was impeached an remove from office as a college student government treasurer. That was not pretty AT ALL.

We'd had money stolen from our office that was under my care, that the financial office employee had refused to take from me because she "didn't handle that." Blah blah blah, I shouldn't have had it in the first place, I locked it up in our office for the night and it was taken.

The police questioned me, my reputation was dragged through the mud, and I later found out that my ticket-mates were glad of it because they'd only wanted me on the ticket so they'd win. I was the credible person on board, so it seems.

No charges were filed, my petition against the steering committee was never taken seriously by the administration (they hadn't followed procedure - I went for that first and was requesting their private deicsion to be overturned and have the entire student government hear the case against me and decide, as it should have been done to begin with. deal with the constitution violation first, the other issue second was the way my advisors thought I should go).

It worked out okay. The woman they wanted to replace me (my opposition on the other ticket) declined the job, saying I had her full support, and the guy they eventually picked made a mess of my budget. He not only soent the entire "slush fund," but went over that by an additional $60K. I got the experience of managing a $300K budget, and got the reputation of a woman who sticks by her principles and earned the further respect of many peers and a fair chunk of the faculty.

I wasn't happy about it, and still am not, but I weathered it well. One politico told me it was good for me that I went through this kind of thing young, so that I'd know how to handle it when I got to Washington.

 

I was fired from a teaching job in Georgia two weeks after moving 1100 miles from San Antonio. This school was a private, therapeutic, boarding school for teens with "opposition defiant disorder". After offering me the job on the day I interviewed, my supervisor felt I couldn't relate well to the special needs of the students there. I guess it served me right; the only reason I took the job in the first place was it allowed me to be 220 miles away from the woman I was engaged to at that time.

 

Yes. A new company bought out my company and replaced all the management team. So, I was history. But I was able to collect unemployment even though I was fired....they didn't protest.

The cruelest firing was for my boss, though. He went on vacation and when he came back there was a message on his answering machine not to bother to come in, he was no longer needed.

Cold, heartless . But that's the Corporate Way.....

 

I've been fired a couple of times. Some of them were my fault and some weren't. I was a kid and when you're a kid, you don't always appreciate what it means to make a committment or to be responsible.

1. Mr. Softee (you know, the ice cream trucks that drive around playing that song they play to Al Quida members to get them to confess) - they found out I lied about my age and wasn't old enough to work under child labor laws (I was 12)

2. WAWA (convenience store that jacks up their prices on bread and milk anytime it snows) - I was nineteen years old and the manager had just gotten on my last nerve. In addition to the fact that he was just a first class jerk, I think I was really hungover so I told him to go do something to himself that I won't mention here. He told me I'd never work for the WAWA corporation again. That afternoon, just for spite, I went to the WAWA across town and applied. I was hired on the spot. Six months later, I was running the place and he had to deal with me on a daily basis.

3. Olga's (avant garde, hippie restaurant)- gross incompetence (They really had no choice but to fire me. I was terrible.)

STAT Medical Transport (just a note of trivia for you R&B fans: our office was located in JFK Hosptial in Cherry Hill, N.J. and our lounge had originally been the hospital room where Jackie Wilson died. Spooky, huh?)- There were four of us fired together and it was never explained why. We were all from the same volunteer squad but I don't know if that had anything to do with it. The dispatcher and the boss was a jerk so we didn't fight it but just went across the bridge to Philly, got our credentials transferred and went to work for another service.

We ended up with more money, better hours, and the company paid for our ALS training. We contracted out to the Philly FD and it was great to be able to do what we were actually trained to do instead of facility to facility transfers, although I did miss the 2am runs to Ancora (mental hospital).

 

Cabbies don't get fired, we get asked to "look for another cab to drive, because it will be a cold day in hell before you drive mine again"

Most of the time when I have had to look for another car it was because the boss was getting out of the game. There was that one car I had a very bad run in though...But that is too long a story for here

Before I got into cabs there was the pizza joint that I delivered for. I was sacked for wanting them to pay me what they should have for the job.

My record was being at one place for just one day. I think I got the flick because it is not a good idea to be painting car tyres out in the yard when there are potential buyers around

I was fired from a Big 6 Accounting Firm for reporting the sexual harrasement I was receiving from a married Accounting Partner.

I reported the incident to my supervisor in H/R and this guy continued to harrass me by calling me at home and making all types of "sexual inuendo" and so I reported it again.

But since it was my word against his (he was always very careful to be sure no one was in ear shot) and he was a partner, I was fired.

But pay backs are heck. 6 Months later he was involved in defrauding another partner and several others of the administrative staff sealed that coffin shut by reporting that he had harrassed them as well.

Lesson Learned?

Don't report sexual harrassment, just suck it up. It may be illegal but its almost impossible to prove.

 

I was fired from my very first job, a potwasher at the local hospital. My dad got me the job. I lasted about 4 months.

I guess I just got tired of the never ending pile of pots, or I couldn't keep up, but anyways, one night I decided to have a little fun, and started spraying people with water, played drums on some of the pots with the big stainless steel spoons, and singing silly songs at the top of my lungs. I was pulled into the office, and told that I had washed my last pot. I was 16. Never regretted anything about that episode, even my dad laughed when I told him.

Never been fired since.

 

I've never been fired from any job, I've quit or been laid off, but not fired. My last job was when I was a single mom, I worked for Revco Drug, they no longer exist. I was supposed to be part time, but it always seemed that if and when others called in or just didn't show up, they always called me, and I always went when they called. (single mom, needed money) So, I ended up working anywhere from 36 to 45 hours a week. At the end of my 3rd month of employment, the manager came to me and told me they had to lay me off of work, making sure I understood I was not being fired. I started crying. Then the pharmacist came over and together they explained that it was only because of all the hours I had been working, this was coming from the main office, if I stayed there then they would have to provide insurance to me, cause I was no longer a part time but full time employee. And the manager and both pharmacists told me they would give me a glowing recommendation. This was all supposed to make me feel better, it didn't. At the same time, I was seeing my now husband, and we had already decided we were going to get married, I went straight to him and told him what had happened. And he told me, we will be married in one month, until then I'll take care of you and Seth (my son), you don't need to find another job unless you just want one, but I'd rather you stay at home and take care of our children. Hey, that works for me, and they lived happily ever after.

ciently enough for him. Result: he swore at me
in front of a patient, so I walked out of the opera-
tory, leaving him to finish up alone. He came out
afterward and fired me, then went and sulked in
his office. Through pouting, he came out and
said he did not mean it. I responded, "Then I quit."

2. I was a temp, asked to stay on long-term but
remain in the status of a temp. Fine with me! But
one day a young temp walked in, treated me with
obvious contempt as though she knew something
I did not know, and the next thing I know, I was not
called back. I was shocked. Then I figured it out:
This was a Christian-based company, my boss
was a Christian, and they assumed, since I said
that I would pray about staying on when they
asked me to stay, that I was also Christian. Then
I requested to leave at 3 p.m. for Yom Kippur.
End of job, even though my record was spotless
after nearly a year of employment and working far
more hours than I had wanted to work. I would
call that being fired! Year 2000

Never been fired
Luckily I have always been a hard enough worker that all my employers loved my work. I on the other hand have fired myself from employers who spoke to me disrespectfully. One made a idle threat to me, about something I did (because her instructions weren't good enough, and I told her so when she complained). I walked out the door and called the boss of my other job (where I was the manager) told him if he gave me a raise I would work there exclusively. He said yes. So I gave my resignation the next day. A few months later I was asked to come back to work at the old place, I said no. A friend told me the owner realised she made a mistake talking to me the way she did but had too much pride to ask me back herself. lol

I hope I never get fired, but if I dod it will because I stand up for my convictions and won't back down.
