Good evening y'all. I subscribe to Crosswalk.com's daily "Religious Summaries" newsletter, and one of the summaries for today is kinda mind boggling(sp). I don't know whether I should laugh or cry. Since I don't have a link I can post, I took the liberty of "cutting" it so I can "paste" it here...

Late-Night TV Inspires Church's Wednesday Service
    Charisma News Service

"This is not your grandmother's Wednesday night Bible study class" could
be the slogan for a Church of God congregation with an innovative
    mid-week service.

Inspired by God and late-night TV host David
Letterman, "Wednesday Night Live (WNL) with Pastor Rodney" is "hosted" by Rodney McKinley, associate pastor at Abundant Life Ministries in
Largo, Florida. "I call this sermon with a twist," McKinley said.

Instead of three points and a prayer, McKinley opens WNL with a monologue and some lighthearted banter with his co-host, followed by a top 10 list with some religious connection (for example, Reasons Why God Made Eve). They then welcome the guests: costumed characters straight out of the Bible.

The program features a backdrop scene of Tampa's
downtown skyline, a desk for McKinley, a couch for Parro and the visitors, plus a live band that provides musical interludes.

WNL is a big hit, tripling attendance from 50 parishioners to about 150. "It's not just church folks who are coming," McKinley said. "They're bringing their neighbors, friends and co-workers. No matter how much fun we have, Jesus is still the center of the show. We never end it without giving someone the opportunity to receive Christ."

How cool is that? A great preacher once told me that you you can't teach people about God if you can't get them to come to church. With so many churches near empty in mid week services...sounds like this guy found something that will draw people in. Good for him. It's pretty creative if you ask me.

Sounds interesting! If it was something the church did on Thursdays at the library would you have a problem with it?

Sounds like VBS for grownups! I hope they use it well while it lasts. I have a feeling it might "get old" after a while.

If it is done to glorify our Lord and fulfill the command to Go and make disciples... then praise God. Ourchurch doesn't do Sunday night Services... We use Saturday night instead and we have country Gospel singers come in each and every Sat night. And yes there is a sermon and alter call.

AS long as it brings glory to God, why not.

The ends do not justify the means.
Show us in the scripture where entertainment is used to get people to come to church. Worldly amusements may have their place but to have the attitude that whatever works is OK is NOT OK.
God set very specific directions for OT Israel to worship Him and we should be able to learn something about what is proper and what is not.
If that is painful for some then that is a sure indication that their primary purpose is not worship but to get entertained. Bait and Switch is not a legitmate method of presenting the gospel.

Does the phrase "bread and circuses" mean anything in our modern churches?
