Most underrated Bible translation?

I voted for the HCSB, It as well as the ESV are my two favorite translations! They have replaced the NIV and NASB which I used to use.

THE HSCB has become my primmary translation due to the footnotes.

If the ESV had the HCSB footnotes it would be the greatist translation in American history!

I have heard that royalties from the sales of the ESV go to the World Council of Churches, who own the publishing rights to the RSV and NRSV. Is this true?
If this is so, I would rather my money go to the SBC "HCSB" than the WCC "ESV"!

I agree with you on your favorite translations. However, I still have to lean more toward the ESV. I like the way it reads better than the HCSB. Besides, there is the Reformaiton Study Bible available in ESV and, in 2008, there will be a ESV study bible released! Although I will probably acquire a copy of the RSB before the ESV study bible release in '08, I have high hopes for that ESV study bible!

 

Yes I like R.C. , the presby not the cola, I used to have the NKJV RSB or New Geneva, I loaned it to somebody and then I moved. I will repalce it with the ESV RSB real soon.

But the actual translation footnotes IMHO are still better in the HCSB.

 

No, Crossway purchased the publishing rights of RSV from the National Council of Churches (I believe they purchased the right to use it as a starting point, not the RSV itself). I believe it was Dr. James Dobson (Focus on the Family) who spearheaded the effort. Google Colorado Springs Guidelines and you will probably find more on this topic. ESV is now headed by Standard Bible Society which is a not-for-profit organization.

I do know what the most OVERrated Bible translation is however. The one that sits on the second shelf of the coffee table covered with 1/8 inch of dust, and gets quickly dusted off and set on top because the preacher called and said he would be by for a visit, as he missed them in church the last three Sundays.

I was going to vote in this poll--but I didn't see the KJV mentioned as one of the choices. According to what I see in many of the threads here, the KJV is more underrated than any of the versions mentioned in the poll.

 

No everyone here realizes the KJV is an excellent translation. But since we live in the 21st Century we tend to use other versions.

Jesus Christ is the living Word of God, He is not an English translation of the written word.

I didn't answer the poll either - since I use only the KJV and NKJV I don't consider any of the rest as "underrated."

If pushed I guess I would have to say the NKJV is the most underrated by folks in my circles because of its rejection despite the fact it uses the same textual body as the KJV.

 

Saying a Bible is underrated/overrated is purely subjective - it is based on the perspective of the one making the statement. I don't think there are any underrated Bible versions. However, some may be overrated.
