[Small snippet from Cal's Article dealing with the schism in the Episcopal Church in place of link - Administrator]

Most denominations that call themselves Christian take the Bible as their text for spiritual and relational instruction. Some in the Episcopal Church take a liberal view of the Bible, just as some do of the U.S. Constitution - it must be constantly updated to suit cultural trends. This view lends itself to constant misinterpretation and confusion. Eventually, it leads to religious or political heresy.

Ancient Scripture sets out the parameters [but] liberal theologians have had to construct a theology that says the Bible does not really mean what it clearly says. It is the same with the Constitution, which is interpreted by liberals to allow for the use of God's name in vain as an act of protected speech, but prohibits the favorable use of His name under the same First Amendment.

If God is not God and if man says God didn't say what He has said, then what standard is to be used to judge anything? It is more than a slippery slope. It is slippery theology with potential consequences that are eternal. Who gets to decide, God or man? If man, then man becomes God and God is diminished, at least in man's eyes.

If [this man] is deemed a fit leader for the Episcopal Church, members are going to have to ask themselves a serious question: Does their denomination represent the will of their God and, if not, why don't they abandon a church that has clearly abandoned Him?

I think that we are going to see a schism in the Episcopal church, and the conservative branch will see some type of revival. Just a hunch, though.

Apparently we are allowed to post links to articles, but we are not allowed to discuss the content of the articles.

Are you insinuating that an Episcopal cannot be born again?

No. I am not insinuating anything. Of course they can be born again. If they were though, they wouldn't still be Episcopals.

    Have a nice day.

Very sad statement you made there. The intolerance modeled in this statement to brethren in Christ is the most insidious virus in today's church.

Let's keep the focus on this thread on the fact of the possible schism of the denomination and NOT on one issue that precipitated it.

Don't want to move this thread too. It becomes tiresome.

And feel free to refute the thinking that if one is truly born again they would immediately leave any group except a Baptist!!

The Episcopal Church has a long history of choosing unity over homogeneity. I don't think this will create the kind of schism some are afraid of (hoping for?).

As for salvation and the Episcopal Church, I can't understand why someone would leave a church built around the grace of God through Jesus Christ because one was saved.

I certainly don't think that all believers must be Baptist. However, I know that Christ did say that his sheep well hear his voice and they do not follow after another.

Are Episcopalians really preaching grace alone - faith alone - Christ alone? Or do they give latitude to "other" faiths such as catholicism and lutheranism and anglicans? Well, I already know the answer.

Gunther, as I assume you know, Episcopalians are Anglicans. They're also in full communion with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA). They had a fairly amicable relationship with the Roman Catholic church; but the ascendency of right-wing theology there has mitigated that somewhat.

Regardless, if one must have a perfect understanding of salvation to be saved, none of us are saved.
