But it is. Your nose is so high in the air (as well as Aaron's, Su Wei's and the other guy's), I'm surprised the FAA hasn't had you put warning lights on it.

All you've done so far is to put others down so that you can make yourself out to be some great spiritual giant.

    Then quit making them.

Because (your Aryan reference not withstanding) the portraits which have been painted, sculpted, etc. do *not* promote another belief system. Dreadlocks are usually associated with rastafarianism.

To see Jesus portrayed as a negro, middle-eastern, etc. doesn't bother me at all, just so there are no other religious overtones blaspheming His message.

    Smaug

P.S. - What about Sonny's "not wanting to diss" Marilyn Manson? Is that not being in agreement as others have pointed out to you using scripture??

I haven't seen the alleged picture but, obviously you have. Could you please explain how it "promotes another belief system"?

    By whom?

The key words here are "usually associated with".

That's quite a leap from "usually associated with" to "indicative of".

Again, other than a hairstyle, which is largely in the mind of the viewer, what "other religious overtones"?

I don't know what he said, the context in which he said it or what he was referring to.

Could it be that he was just trying to show a little charity to the guy (a foreign idea to many here)?

Simply saying that he didn't want to [disrespect] someone is hardly being in agreement with them.

No one has pointed anything out using scripture. They've just pulled a few randon verses out of the air to support their weak arguments without demonstrating how they apply to POD.

 There's a classic line. You haven't posted anything new though, you just keep parroting av1611.com. Did you do ANY research outside of that site? Did you read ANY of their lyrics? Did you read ANY of their interviews? Didn't think so.
Your argument is weak. I'm the only Christian on my baseball team. Some teammates commit most every sin imaginable. So does that mean that I must not be a Christian because I still play with them?? Of course not!!! Playing with someone doesn't mean that you agree with what they do, what they think, it doesn't even mean you nescessarily like them! It just means that in order to be excellent you will play together as a team. Ozzfest is no different. In order to put on a great show, they play at the same festival.

The argument your trying to make simply doesn't work. However, you made quite a bit more accusations then that, I'd like to see you back them up or retract them.

    God bless,

Careful with that logic. Jesus liked to "hang out" with prostitues and other sinners. </font>[/QUOTE]Careful with how you say Jesus liked to hang-out with prostitues and other sinners. Jesus was not there to partake, but to draw them to him.

    By society at large.

Another reason contributing to the negative image of the Rastafarians is their strange hairstyle known as ‘dreadlocks’, which some feel is wild and unattractive. The dreadlock appearance is the distinguishing mark of the movement." - Barret, Leonard E., The Rastafarians, Preface, ix

One of the chief marks of a true Rastafarian is the way he wears his hair." - Barret, Leonard E., The Rastafarians, p.137

"A physical feature that sets the Rastafarians apart from all other groups is the wearing of their hair in dreadlocks." - Magical Blend, June/July 1994, p. 76

I'll reply to this directly from the Bible: And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
    Ephesians 5:11

Not by society at large. Most people don't know the first thing about rastas or dreads.

I know several people who wear dreads who aren't rastas and I even know a couple who are Christians.

When I lived in the Keys, I saw dreads quite a bit on people who weren't rastas.

People who see dreads and think "rastas" are no less bigoted than the woman who clutches her purse when she sees a black guy.

Maybe you all should get out of the house more.

Assuming this were true, which it isn't (among other things, it doesn't account for rastas who don't wear dreadlocks) how does it then follow that anyone who wears dreads is a rasta?

Why can't you reprove them and still show charity? Jesus managed to do it.

It's more likely that Jesus had dreads than he was a blond haired blue eyed Anglo-Saxon.

    Dreads predate Rastas.

What a selective moral code you have. Ever read the second commandment?

Seems to me you should be bothered by any depiction of our Lord Jesus. I know I am.

Here is your proof that POD is not Christian....

In an interview with movieline.com this is what POD had to say about being Christian:

Movieline.com Q. "Are you or are you not a Christian band?"

POD A. "We're not, but we do believe in Jesus."

Even POD said they were not Christian!

That qote can be found at movieline.com.11.00.1999

The question was't "are you Christians", but, "are you a Christian band".

There's a world of difference between the two.

I've been saying all along that they weren't a Christian band.

Thanks for the quote. Now that you've found that, I guess we can put this whole silly David Clown/av1611 notion of POD being a Christian band to rest.

Hahahah!! It's like a witch hunt with these people.

Look! There's the proof! They're not Christians! Eureka, I finally nailed them this time!

    That's exactly what it is.

They want an excuse to say, "Look how bad this person is and look how good I am".

To quote Bill Clinton, "It would be funny if it just weren't so pathetic."

What really makes the whole thing funny is that in another post, Nathan cops to following John Hagee, a known false teacher, once again proving his hypocrisy.

I tried doing a search on movieline.com for that quote, but couldn't find it. Could you please post the link??

"Christian band" is a marketing (IE it's a part of their draw that they are Christians, this works well for people like Sandy Patti, Michael W. Smith, Audio Adrenaline, ect.) and demographic audience (Who they play for, whether it's specifically for Christians or not) label. POD doesn't want to be labeled because it puts them in a box.

    You rally those troops captain.

Tell me, exactly what have any of you accomplished here? I mean besides showing that you only know how to condemn people you don't know and then turn the tables on those who catch you in the middle of your hypocrisy.

Since you obviously can't demonstrate the sin of the music you condemn, or the musicians who make it (which you of course also condemn), why don't we pick a new question for you to run away from? Maybe I can start a whole new thread for you to shut down out of frustration again. What is it that you finger pointers accomplish?

This is an interesting point and I can see where you are coming from, I think you are correct in what you say.

However this does raise another question :

Why do they not want to be labelled as a Christian Band or put into that 'box'?

    Here's some possible reasons:

    1. They may suffer financially if there music is marketed solely towards Christians. In other words they prefer not to advertise their Christianity for the sake of financial gain.

    2. They want their music to be heard by non-Christians so that they may use their music as a form of witness. If they were labelled as a Christian band, non-Christians would be unlikely to buy their records.

    3. They intend at some point in the future to cross over into the mainstream market, by producing songs which have no christian message.

Lets give them the benefit of the doubt and say its number two. They want their music to be heard by non-christians.

Thats fine in theory but if it is to be heard by non-Christians then non-Christians must first buy tickets to their concerts or purchase their albums.

WHY would a non-Christian want to listen to their music? What is about their music that appeals to non-Christians? Surely it can't be the Christian message.

Who is buying their records? If it is only Christians then they are lying by saying they are not a Christian band.

If non-Christians buy the albums surely they are getting saved, where is the evidence of all these thousands of conversions, if they can survive financially without the Christian label then they must be selling thousands of records to non-Christians. Is their a revival going on that I haven't heard about?

Another point is why does the world label them as a Christian band? Even when they don't consider themselves to be a christian band, the world still calls them christian. How hard is it for the world to distinguish a christian band from a non-christian band?

Enda, I think we can both finally agree on something. I appreciate your ability to logically conclude the various concerns one should have about P.O.D. and their motivations without passing judgement on them, or attacking the public profession of their faith in Christ. I thought you were just another condescending Christian looking for something else to tear down, but I'm thinking I was wrong about that.

As I was surfing around and checking things out on the band, I came across this most alarming article HERE.

In addition to repeatedly using profanity, the ex-guitarist has this to say about P.O.D:

Now here's the problem I see with people like Aaron and the others here who are so eager (it seems even rabidly foaming at the mouth) to condemn and judge others. A news article like this should give a Christian pause. One should consider the possibility that this band isn't exactly what it claims to be. Depending on how you raise your children a parent should consider whether or not they want their child to listen to this band. But that's as far as the sphere of our judgement is allowed to extend. I don't know the whole story behind this drama. Further more, God has given me no directive to make judgements on the faith of others based on this kind of information.I also certainly have no directive to judge the lives of those who listen to and are encouraged/entertained/what have you, by the music of P.O.D.

I am highly encouraged by the things you just said. Thanks Enda.

From what I've read in interviews I'm pretty sure they claim #2(whether that's true or not only they know). I can pretty much guarantee you it isn't #3, since they are already one of the most popular bands in the world. Going "mainstream" wouldn't do anything.
Believe me, they do. Satellite went Platinum for the third time 6 months ago. It wasn't just Christians that were buying it, there simply aren't enough Christians interested in rapcore to sell that many. As I said, they are one of the most popular bands on planet Earth.

It's the musical ability. These guys are GOOD. The secular world recognizes that.

As I said, these albums are going to much then just Christians. You don't sell 3,000,000 records(as of 6 months ago) just in the Christian community.

Is it really that simple? How many people have read the Bible and never got saved? Is POD's music supposed to be more powerful then the words of God himself? How many people heard Billy Graham speak after 9/11? Did they all get saved? We simply have no way of knowing how much of an effect POD has on the world. But even if it's just one person, isn't that worth it?

TravelSong, we have a post about that article. Some things just don't jive. It sounds like he is holding a personal grudge about being kicked out so now he's getting his "payback." These two things especially seem confusing considering the section you quoted:
Sounds like they wanted him to take a more hardcore spiritual stance that he didn't want to take. Then:
Hmmm. Sounds like HE has the spiritual problem, not Sonny, Wuv, and Traa. Also of note is the artist they replaced him with is from Living Sacrifice, which is a no-doubt-about-it hardcore Christian band.
The article still sends up warning flags, but it's just not consistent enough to really get a clear view of the situation.

    God bless,
    `JD
