    Did Jeremiah have a choice?

    Jeremiah 1:5

5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

There was no "chance" Jeremiah would not be exactly whom God determined he would be.

When they made the movie, "The Wizard of Oz", they had a choice about what they were going to do. They could have had the "blue" brick road if they wanted to. When I see the movie now, however, there is no choice, it is ALWAYS the "Yellow" brick road. There is no chance that it will be a different color. I know what is going to happen in the movie because I have seen it before but I had nothing to do with the choices people made in making that movie. Jeremiah had a choice, as we all do, the fact that God knew beforehand what those choices were going to be does not change that fact. "Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee;"

Artimaeus, that would be fine but that is not what the Scripture says. Following your logic, God foresaw a world that he had nothing to do with only to then solidify human choices and then proceed to work from that.

What God actually did was determine to accomplish his own plan and then proceeded to actually accomplish it. Btw, he will be successful.

Jeremiah could have refused the call and the ordination. He was no more a robot than the rest of us are. His response in verse six, is very hesitant, but accepting.

We know that if he had refused, he would have had discipline, for we can see what happened to Jonah. However many do NOT respond to the discipline of the Lord but simply blame Him for bad things in their lives without a thought as to the reason some of them may have been allowed.

In fact, we see this with King Saul! God's chosen king, refusing the leading of the Lord.

Jeremiah 1:5 is generically applicable to every human being -- we each are born with a purpose for our creation. God does not create waste. If we waste ourselves, that is our fault. He has a reason and purpose for each of us. No one is born outside of His plan and purpose.

And He knows each of us before we are born.

He also does not desire that one should perish, but that all should come to repentance. Sadly, most don't. But that does not erase the fact that in His perfect will, there was a wonderful place for each of us.

Jeremiah had a hard time with his calling, but he did obey. However, he is not referred to as the 'weeping prophet' for nothing. His struggle is apparent all through the book.

    Luke 1:37
For with God nothing shall be impossible.

Could God choice who is going to be saved without make them robots?

Ro.3:11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.

Ro 3:11 Used the word "None" for understanding and seeking.

if none seek and none understand how does man choice to be saved.

God said he "ordained" Jeremiah. How is that a choice on Jeremiah part.

I don't understand how "ordained" means to see what is going to happen tomorrow.

It doesn't John. Some are just more willing than others to rewrite what it actually says.

John3v36, are you not aware of the broad meaning of "ordained"? You are just too strict with your definition. It means that God only does what people want him to do. [IMG]

King Saul was ordained by Samuel at the order of God.

King Saul did not follow God.

    King Saul had a choice.

    Jeremiah had less of one?

Helen, the reply was toward John3v36 in a light-hearted manner. No one is out to get you.

I hope you are feeling better. [IMG]

I'm sorry but I don't see the ordained in the below passage.
Are you saying that anointed and ordained are one and the same?

    1 Samuel 10
1 Then Samuel took a vial of oil, and poured it upon his head, and kissed him, and said, Is it not because the LORD hath anointed thee to be captain over his inheritance?

I'm not going to argue over words, sir. Saul was God's choice. Now, we either have the idea that God can make wrong choices or that Saul had the freedom to disobey his calling.

I also do not want to argue over words.
so I will assume that you are saying anointed & ordained are one and the same. If this is true.

Was not Saul "captain over his inheritance" for the rest of his life.

    1 Samuel 10
1 Then Samuel took a vial of oil, and poured it upon his head, and kissed him, and said, Is it not because the LORD hath anointed thee to be captain over his inheritance?

Even David recognize this. See Below.

1 Samuel 24:10 Behold, this day thine eyes have seen how that the LORD had delivered thee to day into mine hand in the cave: and some bade me kill thee: but mine eye spared thee; and I said, I will not put forth mine hand against my lord; for he is the LORD‘S anointed.

    And again

1 Samuel 26:16 This thing is not good that thou hast done. As the LORD liveth, ye are worthy to die, because ye have not kept your master, the LORD‘S anointed. And now see where the king’s spear is, and the cruse of water that was at his bolster.

    Even at his death

2 Samuel 1:14 And David said unto him, How wast thou not afraid to stretch forth thine hand to destroy the LORD‘S anointed?

So! Did Saul have a choice?

I don't know about being anointed, but he sure had a choice about how he carried out the task set before him and how he reacted to the situations he was presented with!
