I personally saw Carmen make fun of the faith healing live in person in 1987. He was doing a little thing where he pretended to heal a puppy dog (which was just a synthesized barking noise) through the Holy Spirit. I don't mind riffing on phoney faith healing as a practice, but he certainly seemed to be taking liberties with the power of the HS. He kept yelling over and over again, "Look! Puppy is healed! Puppy is healed!" I kid you not.
(Furthermore, I thought Carmen actually was a charismatic, so why would he be riffing on faith healing????)

I was sure I had posted on this thread, but as most of the action happened before I joined BB I guess not.

When I was younger and stupider I picked up some Carman CDs, now a very expensive set of drink coasters ;) I just leave them in the bottom drawer while I decide their fate. Have not ruled out burning.

There were a few Carman songs I didn't mind. No, "Spirit Filled Pizza" was never one

About the only one I'd still recommend is "Soap Song" [IMG]

Carman has managed to do something that not many musicians can do...he puts forth gospel truths mixed with humor and drama...I love the stuff!!

Yeah, he entertains throngs of fans a third his age, with bad imitations of musical styles that are five years out of date. Mind you, that's not necessarily a Good Thing. [IMG]

That's a common thing in CCM.

Petra is still doing a pretty rotten Def Leppard.

"A stopped watch is right twice a day"

Carman puts forth _some_ truth, have to sift through a lot of VERY questionable (to say the least) material to get to the good stuff though.

Ransom, what can I say except: [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

I think biggest problem there is John Elefante wanting to be Mutt Lange.

Ya know, in carman's defense..yeah he is outdated especially with the current punk styles of music now, but he has done a great job in the past to draw more people in with the dramas and there are people who still get into that style of music...same goes with petra.

True, but at least Def Leppard was current when they started doing it.

Remember that album "Come and Join Us"? That was total 70's rock and roll. I think I'll have to find that and pop it in.

I liked their 70's stuff. I even liked the first couple they did with the Elefante's.

It was only after they got stuck in the whole 80's arena rock/hair band/Def Lappard/power ballad rut that I stopped listening to them.

That having been said, I though "Beyond Belief" was great.

One of the problems with Petra now is that they're not a band anymore, they're a franchise.

There aren't any original members left and the oldest member is three generations removed from the original lineup.

That's no way to run a band because there's no vision there and it's hard to be passionate wjem you're just a hired hand.

I think the best thing they could do would be to go find Billy Smiley on whatever beach he's lying on or maybe Steve Taylor and get them to help set the band back on the right road.

A lot of bands go through that, the "Roman numeral" syndrome. A mate of mine has poster with 4 or 5 different versions of Deep Purple listed. In news recently in Oz there has been story of most of the members of the Little River Band not being able to use the name because one other bloke owns it.

Does Bob still write the songs and play a bit of guitar in the studio?

He's back with the band after leaving for five or six years. Withe the released of their new album, "Jekyll and Hyde", he's back as a full time (and only original) member.

[IMG] I've edited this post about 15 times in the last few minutes [IMG]

Web says Jekyll & Hyde is out in Oz, now found a site with lyrics so will have a read through, see if it is worth picking up.

Oh, and to stay on thread topic: Carman is still a kook.... ;) :D

"Jekyll and Hyde" has been selling relaly well down here in Texas. I haven't heard it myself, but I'm looking forward to seeing if they can re-capture some of their old greatness.

Pete, want to have a slice of "Spirit-Filled Pizza?" It's fresh out of the oven...

And as I understand it, he's not even using it. He just owns it and is sitting on it to collect royalties. Doesn't he realize that if he allowed the band to tour under that name that he would make more in royalties?
