I never realized just how focused the Catholic Church is in worshipping Christ and how dedicated Catholics are in commemorating and focusing on Christ’s death burial and resurrection during this time of year. I’m envious, I guess I'll attend Church Sunday as always and hear the same message as last year.

Unfortunately riverm, I attend the traditional church, so if you were to attend one of the many Catholic churches overwhelmed in Modernism you would quite frankly be appalled...I occasionally visit and it is very distressing to see 40 years of changes in one fell swoop.

Yes, it was terrible what Torquemada and the Inquisition did in the name of God. Yet the Church has done good things in Education, Helping the Poor, etc. Check out a modern day Exorcism in Spain. Check out the Sudarium in Oviedo, perhaps the only true relic to prove Jesus existed (John 20:7).

There are 2 explanations out there for the doctrine of the Nicolaitans.
Yours, which was invented from whole cloth in the 19th century.
And that of Irenaeus (living in in the 2nd century AD), who may have had some hands on experience with them. He wrote a book titled Against Heresies. Irenaeus described the Nicolaitans as people who claimed to be Christians but who considered it "a matter of indifference to practice adultery, and to eat things sacrificed to idols.

I understand there have existed certain group which was rather focussing on the truth itself, but they were all the time very minor or overshadowed by worldly powerful group like Jesuits.

Look at Thomas A Kempis, I liked his book Immitation of Christ very much. But if anyone like him lived today, he would depart from RC and join a sincere group of Protestants. I understand he is recognized by Jesuits as well, and even Pascal might be influenced by him, John Wesley too. In that aspect, I understand that it is absurd to condemn all the RC's as the same, but would maintain the same overview since such group are scarce to find. [/QB][/QUOTE]

    You like that book?
It's the most read Christian text on earth after the Bible(I would argue that it's impact overshadows that of the Jesuits instead of the other way around), but it is a rather Roman Catholic work.
Thomas would never have written his 'The Imitation of Christ' if he hadn't been cloistered monk. It was intended for other monks who like him were living a secluded existance in a convent.

There is no den of idolatry in or outside of Christianity greater or grosser than the Roman Catholic Church. To me the RCC is antichrist number one and last - it constitutes the shame of Christianity before heathendom.

True Christians have nothing for which to be ashamed.

In the past 1600 years (since 325 A.D.), much of the "civilized" world has been in the control of nominal Christians--that is in name only.

The Lord knows them that are His.

    Selah,

    Bro. James

That rather makes a mockery then of Jesus' promise that He would build His Church and the gates of Hell would not prevail against it. What happened - did He go to sleep for a few centuries?

    Greetings Matthew:

Mockery, no. It reinforces the case for the New Testament Church in every generation--the Bride assaulted by the gates of hell--the one bloodied by the Whore of Babylon--in every generation, even today. She was never a part of Rome, Constantinople, Wittenburg, Canterbury, etc., etc.

She is still basically ignored by nominal Christianity.

"Behold I come quickly and my reward is with me."

    Selah,

    Bro. James

These are the real Knights Templar.

Ah, so we're back to Successionism. Now, you know what I think about that. Thanks, but no thanks.

I know the problem with him, but he was within the tolerance as long as he was a born-again believer. Jesuits start to exist after him.

True Christians owe nothing to the Pagan, Whorish Roman Religion.

Whorish Roman Religion strongly deny that they are built upon the True Rock, Jesus Christ.

How much honest they have become in revealing what are their fruits!
Bad Trees cannot hide their identity as their fruits are proving!

Remember! True Christians will win eventually, even though they will pass thru almost Dead status.

    Back to successionism--

Matthew, I believe you are the one who recently alluded to Mt. 16:18, which is surely a church perpetuity reference. I do not believe in a direct, notarized succession either.

That New Testament Churches have been in every generation since the First Church is an historical fact--secular and scriptural.

    Selah,

    Bro James

Take off your rose-colored 21st century Glasses.

Actually, the Inquisition was an attempt at safeguarding the truth; We punish traitors today with the death penalty; this was no different, and even more justifyable for these heretics threatened society itself.

As it is, most historians today are at a loss to explain the exaggerated numbers often cited.

In truth, the inquisition claimed a total of no more than about 5,000 lives in it's 300 year life span. The Catholics kept records of what was going on (Private records which have since been opened up). In fact, we have other records of people going up in secular courts pleading heresy that they might be tried by an ecclesiastic court because they were known for being the most merciful of the day.

Listening to this changed my view greatly. I also found this article informative.

I also find it interesting that the author of that article repeatedly portrayed "Fundamentalists" as some wacko bunch of ax grinders who couldn't get their facts straight if those facts bit them on their noses.

Typical of the left wing hysteria mongers who portray all fundamentalists as red-eyed devils out to eat your children, this author is so biased he cannot be believed if he told you the grass is green in June.

Wahoo, having read some of the last pages of this, I know why I dont drop by this thread much......my o my it is offensive, some folk sound like those old pharisees who incited violence against my Lord and Saviour and had him crucified on a cross.

yep the catholic church aint perfect because it is peopled by PEOPLE and last I looked, they sure aint perfect, not even a single one, however I adhere to the teachings of the church which has my Saviour as its Head and by definition His teachings and the Bible.

I vote you and will durant to hang on a cross for a couple days in august . . .

I promise to pull you down before it gets as painful as the inquisition . . .

    ;)

Yes I agree that the inquisition was terrible - but, so was feeding Christians to the beasts . . .
