Ok i'm going to step out and ask this question. I believe this is the right forum for it.

What do you think a woman's role is? You can back it up with scripture. But, I'm looking for ........ YOUR take what YOU personally believe.

What is the line they should never cross?

I'm going to hide now [IMG]

Women should not have eccliastical authority (be a pastor) or teach the Bible to men. This goes to the male/female order throughout the Bible and teachings in the NT.

Right now in evangelical Christianity, there are 2 views on this: Complementarian and Egalitarian (the latter teach women can be pastors). I believe the Complementarian view is Biblical. If you are really interested in this, I suggest looking at these 2 sites which will give more info than I can post here:

Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood
    http://www.cbmw.org/

The Five Aspects of Man and Woman
    http://www.fiveaspects.org/
(above site discusses men's and women's roles Biblically)

For an excellent critique of the egalitarian view and various interpretations of those NT passages pertaining to women speaking/serving in church, see this article by Ron Rhodes (excerpt below):

I strongly urge you to check out those first 2 sites and to read this article to help you understand some of the issues and responses. [IMG]

I learned much of what I know about the Bible from my mother. I still do, and I'm 38. I have been taught much about the Bible from GrannyGumbo, I Am Blessed (Sue), and Lady Eagle.

Prov. 31:10-31 is the description of the ideal woman. If a woman wants to be well thought of by God (and by fault virtuous men would agree) than that is what she should shoot for. Perfection, of course, is not going to happen but the more you shoot at the target the more likely you are to get close. These verses provide for a very wide range of activities from business, to agriculture, to skilled handiwork, to supervision, to real estate, to charity, to being a wise and kind mother and wife. I don't think this list is anywhere near inclusive which would allow for a much wider range.

I like women as a general rule. As a matter of fact, I like women better than men. I have had women bosses, supervisers, and co-workers (both good and bad). The only real differences I have found is that women are not as likey to be able to help with heavy manual work (the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak) but, men are not as likely to be willing to help with everything else (the spirit isn't so willing). The quality of the women's work is generally better than most men.

Leadership over men in the church.
Leadership over her husband in the family.

Teaching the Bible to men means like leading a Bible study with men in it or doing expository teaching in a church setting/group to men.

The reason I ask this question, Is it seems to me over the years women's places have changed in the world, but ONE thing has remained the same. The SPIRIT... Women seem to live by thier emotions and men seem to live by the physical.

Another thing is that when most people have problems they seem to rely on their mothers, grandmothers, women of experince. As well as pastors, fathers, grandfathers.

I'm just wondering where the line is drawn with some people. Sometimes there dosen't seem to be a line, others it seems to be very bold.

Where people draw the line doesn't matter, it's what scripture says. Those links I posted go into that.

I have been taught much about the Bible from GrannyGumbo, I Am Blessed (Sue), and Lady Eagle. </font>[/QUOTE]Good posts by both of you I feel. Sometimes Paul I think gave his opinion on things, but in the 1Corintians passage he adds:
"...the things that I write to you are the commandments of the Lord." (1Corinthians 14:37b)
That would seem to settle that, so I must agree with Marcia.
But what about in a setting that is not within the Church (a private setting)? An excellent example is given to us in the book of Acts. Apollos was an excellent preacher, but all he knew was (up to) the baptism of John. Acts 18:26 tells us: "When Aquila AND PRISCILLA heard him, THEY took him aside and explained.." In the context, did Priscilla have no part in this training session?
So,I think it is all a matter of place and context here. I too agree that the Baptist Board does not fit the context of Paul's restrictions: this is not a Church service setting and men could, if they feel that way, not read or respond to women, or confine themselves to the Men's Forum.
Also, I must agree with John that I have learned from women on this board (those that were mentioned and many more.)

A woman's role in any society is ultimately to give praise and glory to the Lord Jesus Christ! She does this by simply obeying whats written in the Bible!

If she wants to be a wife---find out what the word from the Word has to say about a woman being a wife---and obey it!

If she wants to be single---find out what the word from the Word has to say about a woman being single---and obey it!

If she wants to be a leader in the church---find out what the word from the Word has to say about a woman being a church leader---and obey it!

I don't get the question! What do you think the role of a women should be? If you think God is calling you to pastor...go pastor. If to be a housewife...go housewife. If a corporate executive...go be executive. I wouldn't rely on the opinions of others to tell you what you can and cannot do. Women don't get less of the Holy Spirit then men and are just as capable of serving in whatever capacity. The whole, it "isn't a matter of ability it is a matter of role" line was created by power hungry men afraid of losing "control" to continue to subjugate women. Jesus set women free from the shackles of modrn day expectations, I chose to follow Jesus rather then he biased opinions of scaredy-cat men.

Nope that's not the question. I'll be a bit more specific about it.

Do you believe that a woman can hold a job IF she wants to?

Do you beleive that a marraige is a partnership OR do you believe it's otherwise. If you do why?

Do you beleive that a woman can speak up in church and speak her mind?

Do you think that a woman can stand up for her personal convictions and or beliefs? Why or why not?

Do you think that a woman should be able to socialize with both men and women?

Do you belive that a womans place is under neather her husband?

Just trying to clear up a few foggy thoughts in my head. tis all [IMG]

If she's single, yes. If she's married, yes, if she and her husband are in agreement.

It's a partnershp and a covenant. There is no such thing as "two" in a marriage. The husband and wife are one body, and Jesus Christ is the head of their household.

As a member of the congregation, she can as much as a man can. But during a service, congregants are to generally remain silent out of respect for the officiant.

Every person, male or female, should stand up for his/her personal beliefs.

Yes, so should men. If married, one should avoid socialization that would present the appearance of compromising the marriage.

No. A wife's place is under her Lord, and next to her husband.

I believe a woman can hold a job if she so desires.

I believe that marriage is a partnership.

I believe that a woman can speak up in church as well as speak her mind.

I believe a woman can (and should!) stand up for her convictions. Women are people too!

I feel a woman should be able to socialize with both men and women, but she should be careful about the socialization with men. Men should also be cautious when socializing with women.

I don't believe that a woman's place is "underneath" her husband. I do believe the husband carries the authority but not as an absolute monarch.

Scripture teaches that wives are to be submissive to their husbands...I believe this is key to being obedient to God as well. God put the husband over the wife, not to Lord over her,but to be the spiritual head of their home and she should learn from him, love and respect him as the head.

I believe the priority of a women should be her husband, children and home. She must make this her responsibilty...can this be done and work too? I do not believe so...I am not saying a woman should never work, but ideally,a woman should be home taking care of children, caring and nurturing their souls...if she isn't,somebody else is and God gave that job to parents. The home should be organized, clean, the children should be obedient,etc...it(the home) should not be chaotic,dirty,unkept...for the children to be trained properly, somebody would need to be spending time with them. It would be difficult for these things to happen if the woman worked full time outside the home.

Can a woman socialize with men, yes, cautiously. Ideally,it should be couples socializing with eachother.

Women can teach in the church, but limited to other women and children...so as not to usurp the authority of the men who are in leadership.

Thanks for the imput on this issue.

My main point in this was to dispel the myth that I was starting to feel. That I should be seen and not heard. From your opinions and talking to my Husband , I will continue to speak my mind.

My husband and I had a long talk over this he said...

I'm not in this marriage alone.
You have to stick up for yourself and i'll be right there with you .
A woman can do what she feels she needs to. If i don't agree we'll talk about it till we find a compromise.
Yes you can talk to both men and women, in a public setting but, never men alone. ( this I agree with because as sinners we are all thinking everyone is sinning 0.o I hope that makes sense )

He told me he hates the computer because sometimes it makes me cry , and reminded me it had an off switch when it gets that untolerable. You know I managed to go five years forgetting about that switch 0.o LOL ....

I am a SAHM, i've worked some, went to college some, and decided i'm happier, healthier , and so is my family when I am at home. So that is where I feel like i'm being pulled. A lot of familys cannot do this. I feel blessed that the biggest job of my life is to watch and make sure my kids grow up right.

And they learn their place is beside Their man not under neath him.

the problem with this is .. Power corrupts . Absolute power corrupts absolutly. (spelling here and there) ....

Anyway time to end this post and thank you!
