"Church" or What?

Dr Bob, If I had a Church in Casper, I'd name it
"Casper the Friendly Church"
with a slogan that read something like:
"Where the real Holy GHOST resides!"

Then, I guess I'm the CHURCH in/at/of Liddieville, with BAPTIST doctrine, who believes in the BIBLE!

I can see the reasoning of both/all sides in this one.

Many churches are opting to drop the name of their denomination in hopes of reaching those who would not consider entering a church of that denomination.

Many churches are dropping the name "church" for a similar reason, in that many unchurched people will come to a place of worship, but not to "church" (this is really the reasoning here, honest!)

And, by the way, Saddleback Church is Southern Baptist (so says Warren).

Although I can see the rationale for these, I still prefer to call a spade a spade (or, in this case, a Baptist church a Baptist church).

I can vouch for that, being as how it's in my area. Saddleback is SBC, biblebased, and Christ centered all the way.

 

Most RCA (Reformed) churches in the LA/OC area have the name Blahblah Community Church. You can check out the church directory at www.rca.org . Or, you could look in the phonebook under "b"

Many non-reformed churches also have the term "community" in them, so it's not a hard fast rule (the aforementioned Saddleback being a good example).

Speaking of funny things that might not be so funny. I saw a church sign which read "for all you do His bloods for you" Now it is catchy and accurate but it is also a former budweiser slogan. What does everyone think, is this good or not?

Hey~Bro.Murph! It's good seeing y'all again too! I'd probably get into a lot more "trouble" if it weren't fer that baby pic...it's hard fussing at a young'un, eh?

About that sign---I'd say it leads one to think on things one shouldn't. We're to abstain from all appearance of evil & that sure puts a beer-jingle in my head.

While the Lord may have a sense of humor, I doubt He finds that very funny. Maybe someone should tell them they ought to reconsider their testimony...

There's nuthin' wrong with either. Not everyone in the Body of Christ can be of the same body part.

 

Weilding a sword without a purpose is a very dangerous thing.

God organized the church with a pupose.
Maybe remnants should get on board with God's plans then they would grow.

 

sadly our group out here in Micronesia is being pilloried by other baptist groups in the islands for not having a name at all.
We are a church, we meet regularly to worship and glorify our Savior. We don't use the word "baptist" simply due to the confusion among islanders as to what the word means.
I don't see any names in Scripture, so why the pressure on our missionary to include it?

Back home (NW IN), there's a church called "The Happy Church".

My family wondered if there would be someone who'd build a church across the street called "The Mean Church"

 

...and that would probably be an IFB church! When the IFB oughtta be 'The Happy Church' Sorry, I've come accross too many mean IFB's! (Yes, and I am an IFB! but a nice guy, really )

 

Amoung the Evangelical Christian-Baptists (Russians, Ukrainians, et al) of the former Soviet Union, our meeting houses are called a Dom Molitvye (House of Prayer). We take this from Isiah 56:7

 

And wasn't the "baptist" churches in the NT just simply called "The Church of God" in Whatever city.
