Former CIA director accuses Cheney of overseeing torture

    LONDON (AFP) - Admiral Stansfield Turner, a former CIA director, accused US Vice President Dick Cheney of overseeing policies of torturing terrorist suspects and damaging the nation's reputation, in a television interview.

    "We have crossed the line into dangerous territory," Turner, who headed the Central Intelligence Agency in the 1970s, said on ITV news.

    "I am embarrassed that the USA has a vice president for torture. I think it is just reprehensible. He (Mr Cheney) advocates torture, what else is it? I just don't understand how a man in that position can take such a stance."

    US President George Bush and other leading members of his administration have consistently denied that detainees suspected of belonging to Al-Qaeda were tortured for information.

    But his opponents and human rights campaigners have claimed that many men taken captive in Iraq and Afghanistan by US forces have been subjected to torture in order to extract information.

    survive like a demon being cast out...bush,cheney. rove, trying to avert eyes
    as usual probably they are hoping for a terrorist attack to save their deceptive hides.

    I'm Kind of courious as to how a FORMER Directory of the CIA would know what the CURRENT Vice President of the United States is overseeing. While Adm. Turner certianly holds the necessary security clearances I doubt he would have the Need to Know required to know what goverment officails doing in a black operation.

    That 14 Characteristic propaganda just shows how shallow the thinking of the truly paranoid gets when they have been denied the political power they crave.

    The link bashes America for being concerned with national security, for denying the liberal agenda in the arts, for funding the military, for honoring God in any way from public office...

    What a bunch of baloney. Sour grapes from someone who apparently longs for the old days of the porno-presidency and leadership that "let Osama go free" only to pick up and toss missles at him from a "safe" distance. (Nothing like ginning up that suicide bomber machine for Clinton). Short term political clout at the sacrifice of long term security.

    WHAT! You mean our Vice-President has become a terror to the terrorists?

    Does he now dress in black leather with whip and boots? Try to picture that [​IMG]

    The real terror to Al-Qaeda is that for the first time the US has a military presence with a full blown war-machine (US military bases, munitions, 100,000's of troops) in their land flanking Iran on both sides.
