BWA presents BGCT with membership certificate
(By Craig Bird, Baptist Child & Family Services --11/14/05)

(Austin) -- Denton Lotz, general secretary of the Baptist World Alliance, presented Baptist General Convention Texas Executive Director Charles Wade with a framed membership certificate signifying the recent acceptance of the BGCT as a full member in the 100-year-old Baptist fellowship.

Lotz noted when the BWA was founded 100 years ago, “85 percent of the world’s Christians lived in Europe and the United States, but now 60 percent of Christians live in the southern hemisphere. There are 400 million believers in Africa, 550 million in Latin America and 360 million in Asia.

“The Church has moved south — and I don’t mean south to Texas but south of the equator,” he said during the BGCT annual meeting. “God didn’t call just the NATO countries when He gave us the Great Commission, He gave it to Christians everywhere.”

Lotz pledged that BWA will continue its work supporting Baptist churches around the world as they preach the gospel, will help the needy through Baptist World Aid and work to promote and protect human rights and religious freedom.

“We want religious freedom for everyone, everywhere,” he said. “We want Hindus and Buddhists and Muslims to be free to worship — but we demand the same freedom for Christians. We will continue to tell countries like Saudi Arabia and Yemen that since you take advantage of your freedom to build mosques in the United States and Europe then you need to grant us the freedom build churches and freely share our faith in your countries.”

Prior to the Texas meeting, on Thursday November 10, the BWA General Secretary presented the certificate of membership in the BWA to John V. Upton Jr., Executive Director of the Baptist General Association of Virginia during the BGAV Annual Meeting in Woodbrige, VA.

From what I have heard of the BGCT of recent years, they are a perfect fit for each other (LIBERAL). I am glad this is not happening in the SBC.

Do you really trust the SBC that much?

This is happening in the SBC. There are churches which give money to the SBC, SBT and BGCT.

There are a number of European conservative Baptists churches which do belong to the BWA. It is much the same thing as considering yourself part of the BFA scandal. There were pastors who spoke against the practice of the BFA and were shunned. When the BFA's practice came to light it was just swept under the rug. Is that a liberal or conservative practice? I would contend that was an effort to cover up the truth. The same thing when Dilday was fired. The trustees lied to try and cover up the truth. Do you trust leaders like that and consider keeping company with them? Personally I want no part of that kind of leadership. Read James and see how genuine faith is demonstrated. It is demonstrated in action not just words.

I am proud to be a member of a very conservative church that gives its SBC contributions through the BGCT (12% of our gross non designated receipts). I am pleased that the BGCT has chosen to impact the world through the BWA

Do you really trust the SBC that much? </font>[/QUOTE]Did I say I did? Of course I don't trust the SBC that much. My faith is in God and his Word. I am, however, glad that we broke ties as a national denomination with the BWA.

That is their perogative as a local Church. The Southern Baptist Convention, however, has voted to have nothing to do with them...and I am glad they did.

Who cares what the Europeans do?

I guess since it was swept under the rug, I didn't hear much about it. Why don't you start another thread and discuss this and bring it to light. I guess I fail to understand what this has to do with me being happy that the Convention has nothing to do with the BWA.

You are still bitter, aren't you. Look. From what I hear, Dilday needed to be fired because he was a liberal heretic. What the trustees did in handling it, however, was wrong. 10 years ago when I first arrived at SWBTS, I heard all about it and was upset. The more, however, that I met actual liberals and saw how nasty and ugly they could be on people of faith and on conservatives in general, the less upset I became. I eventually moved on with my life and got over it. Perhaps, you should do the same.

I am pleased the SBC has chosen to impact the world through the Cooperative Program and without the BWA.

I would like to know more about the BFA scandal. I am unfamiliar with it.

Name one liberal word either written or spoken by Dr. Dilday. He is a fine example of a man who is conservative theologically - who would not kowtow down to those who came to power in the SBC. He paid the price losing his job - but that is no reason to lie about him by calling him a liberal heretic

I read Dilday's book on being fired. I was deeply saddened he equated people more conservative with him with Islamic terrorists. It colored the rest of his account in a very poor way. I would like to know, however, how he might be accurately charged of being a liberal. Which key doctrines of the faith has the man denied?
