UPDATE: Coulter's Syndicate Requests Report From Plagiarism Prober -- As She Hits Back at 'NY Post'

    By Dave Astor

    Published: July 05, 2006 5:15 PM ET

NEW YORK Universal Press Syndicate has requested a copy of a report about Ann Coulter's alleged plagiarism, according to a post on the TPMmuckraker.com blog. Meanwhile, in her latest column, Coulter has hit back at the newspaper that aired the latest plagiarism charges -- but did not refute them.

The report was conducted by John Barrie, creator of the iThenticate plagiarism-probing system. A New York Post story this Sunday
said Barrie found several examples of alleged plagiarism in Coulter's new "Godless" book as well as in her Universal column.

Universal Director of Communications Kathie Kerr, when contacted by E&P, said she called Barrie on Wednesday morning and left him a message asking him for a copy of his report. "Once we see a copy of the report, we'll be happy to comment on the findings," she added. "We take allegations of plagiarism very seriously." E&P has also left a message for Barrie, who appeared on MSNBC late Wesnesday.

Believe me people like Coulter, Sheehan, Moore, Franken, etc are better ignored.

    Martin,

you're putting Ann Coulter in a list with Cindy Sheehan and Al Franken??! She'd be appalled! :)

Actually I don't think Coulter fits in that list at all. She's great, love her books.

I always thought her words were her own. If this is true, it's strange to think of stealing hate - if you're gonna spew bile, it ought to at least be yer own.

I think she fits in quite nicely with that list of flame throwers.

I suppose it well enhance her popularity with her fans. It does seem kinda sad when you can't even hate with any originality.

IF it is true, I hope that she is exposed. If it is not, I hope that she is vindicated and her accusers apologize.

I despise dishonesty far more in my own ranks than in those of my/our opponents.

I'm no fan of Ann Coulter. I find her personally obnoxious, her views repugnant, and her media presence as a so-called "conservative" represents much of what is wrong with popular media today.

However, I've looked at the meager evidence presented in these articles and it simply looks like she has been rather sloppy in her attributions. It's nothing like W.A. Criswell's appropriation of sections of R.S. Torrey's work or Kenneth Hagin's nearly word-for-word plagiarism of E.W. Kenyon's books.

I'm certainly open to see what they dig up, but this seems to be motivated by her obnoxious and calculated persona, rather than copyright concerns.

"Those who walk in pride he is able to abase." Daniel 4:37
Among all the evils which lie naked and open before the eyes of Him with whom we have to do, pride seems especially to incur his holy abhorrence; and the outward manifestations of it have perhaps drawn down as much as, or more than, any other sin, his marked thunderbolts. Pride cost Sennacherib his army and Herod his life; pride opened the earth to Korah, Dathan and Abiram, and hung up Absalom in the boughs of an oak; pride filled the breast of Saul with murderous hatred against David, and tore ten tribes at one stroke from the hand of Rehoboam. Pride drove Nebuchadnezzar from the society of his fellow-men, and made him eat grass as oxen, and his body to be wet with the dew of heaven, until his hairs were grown as eagles' feathers, and his nails like birds' claws.
And as it has cut off the wicked from the earth, and left them neither son nor nephew, root nor branch, so it has made sad havoc even among the family of God. Pride shut Aaron out of the promised land, and made Miriam a leper; pride, working in the heart of David, brought a pestilence which cut off seventy thousand men; pride carried captive to Babylon Hezekiah's treasure and descendants, and cast Jonah into the whale's belly, and, in his feelings, into the very belly of hell.
It is the only source of contention; the certain forerunner of a fall; the instigator of persecution; a snare for the feet; a chain to compass the whole body; the main element of deceitfulness, and the grave of all uprightness. The very opposite to charity, pride is not patient, and is never kind; she always envies, and ever boasts of herself; is continually puffed up, always behaves herself unseemly, ever seeks her own, is easily provoked, perpetually thinks evil, rejoices in iniquity, but rejoices not in the truth; bears nothing, believes nothing (good in a brother), hopes nothing, endures nothing. Ever restless and ever miserable, tormenting herself and tormenting others, the bane of churches, the fomenter of strife, and the extinguisher of love--may it be our wisdom to see, our grace to abhor, and our victory to overcome her, and may the experience of that verse in Deer's hymn be ours–
    "Your garden is the place
    Where pride can not intrude;
For should it dare to enter there,
Would soon be drowned in blood."
    J.C. PHILPOT

    Ann Coulter guilty of plagiarism?

Franky, I find that rather odd. After all, one would have thought that Mein Kampf would have been in the public domain by now.

Her best stuff just couldn't be:

"My only regret with Timothy McVeigh is he did not go to the New York Times Building."

"We've finally given liberals a war against fundamentalism, and they don't want to fight it. They would, except it would put them on the same side as the United States."

"Usually the nonsense liberals spout is kind of cute, but in wartime their instinctive idiocy is life-threatening."

"While the form of treachery varies slightly from case to case, liberals always manage to take the position that most undermines American security."

I'm surprised that she could find someone else as mean-spirited as she is to plagiarize.

And she has again declined to deny that she plagiarized the material. She did however, say many nasty things about the people who reported it.

So her fans are probably satisfied.

And no matter what is said by her or proven her critics will carry on their attacks.
