Lance Bass - a member of the band ' N'Sync ' came out of the closet the other day and said that it was hard for him, being a southern baptist, to explain to his family that he is a homosexual...

oh these people need prayer - we're gettin a bad name every day now...

Amen. I wouldn't even object (as SBC) if a Pentecostal dropped by, laid hands on him, and rebuked the devil that is robbing him of his joy.

Here is looking at the glass half full:

After Jimmy Carter it can't get any worse concerning those who call themselves SB who have a international or national presence. Furthermore to me it is somewhat of and indictment on what is preached in some SBC churches.
This dude's career has been completly off the radar. I guess he had to pull the ole "I'm coming out" routine to get a little face time on the tabloids and TV shows etc....

He doesn't need to worry about being SB. He needs to be concerned about being born again.

What is also pathetic is the fact that the whole "coming out" thing is losing it's shock value on the culture. I suppose the homosexuals who have an agenda to push are getting results. Did anybody even really blink when this kid came forward? I doubt it.

What do you have against Jimmy Carter? Oh, I know, he was a democrat, right? That is embarassing. Even more embarassing than saying Christians and Moslems worship the same god and that they will go to heaven but a different route? That's fine because GW is a Republican. Is that it?

I think Bush is an embarassment and a disgrace to my country.

His liberalness...regardless of whether he's a democrat or republican.
I've heard him say that Christianity and Islam worship the same God (which I don't believe is true...but see where he's coming from), but I never heard him say they would get to heaven by different "routes". Do you have a link for that? I've heard Joel Osteen say that...

To me, this just shows that a Southern Baptist, Catholic, Muslim, or any other can go to heaven if they are truely saved...

It also shows me that a Southern Baptist, Catholic, Muslim, or any other can go to hell is they are NOT truely saved.

Him being a Southern Baptist, to me means nothing more than he was raised in the South. What someone "calls" themselves has no effect on their salvation. It's who they believe in and how they live.

We should pray for him to see the light before it's too late....

    Straight and narrow,

I'm not so keen on Pres. Bush myself. Jimmy Carter though is all together different. He is a prime example of how liberal theology helps to create a lilberal politician.
If you have read anything at all of J Carter and his worldview you will see very plainly that it is not biblical. Regardless of the fact that he is a democrat. To put it more bluntly J. Carter is a socialist.
To be quite frank I believe George Bush is a globalist. IT is almost like JC and GB are aiming for the same thing but approach it from different avenues.
Where JCarter and SBC is concerned my point is the fact that if JC had grown up in a Bible believing , preaching SBC church instead of being influenced by liberal theology, preaching etc... then maybe he would have a different worldview than what he does.
I gave George Bush the benefit of the doubt on alot of things. I think though that when you boil it all down GB simply pandered to the conservative base of his party to get elected both times. He only throws that side of the rep.party a bone when he is in a tight spot.

not to get off track, but since when does socialism=not biblical? Here's a little news flash there are Christian, dare I even say, Baptist, socialists in the world. I must have missed the chapter and verse that endorses Capitalism.

If you have to ask what someone has against Jimmy Carter, all you have to do is look at his Presidency. How many days were those hostages held, 400+? Note that they were released THE day Reagan was sworn in. They knew the end of their reign had come. Reagan would have gotten them out by force AS SOON AS HE REBUILT THE MILITARY CARTER DESTROYED! Also, do you not remember those gas lines? I was a kid, however, I sure do remember sitting in the car with my dad FOR HOURS just for tank of gas.

Oh please, how is GWB an embarrassment?

Liberalness is a vague term. What did Carter say or do that you considered to be liberal?

Do you think that George Bush is a conservative? Specifically, do you think he is a fiscal conservative?

Here's the link to Bush's belief statement.

    http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/story?id=193746&page=1

He also said that Muslims and Christians worship the same god in a press conference with Tony Blair in the UK.

    http://www.sbcbaptistpress.org/bpnews.asp?ID=17133

So, if you believe that this is the belief statement of a Christian, then we have a Christian President. In reality, he pulled this whole christian scam just to get elected IMO.

Please give us some examples which demonstrate that Jimmy Carter is a socialist. What liberal theology does he accept? Is it worse than Bush's beliefs?

I pray that Lance will come to know Christ if he doesn't already. If he does, I hope that the Spirit will stir him to reach out for Christ and give up his homosexual desires.

You've obviously not read anything of Jimmy Carter. His worldview is very consistent with the Bible.

I think one of the greatest hindrances to the spread of Christianity is the insistence by some Christians today that all Christians have to think alike politically, economically and socially as well as spiritually. That's just not true. A Christianity that has to conform to worldly philosophy is ineffective. Christ was about saving souls and bringing them into a right relationship with God, not reforming the politics of nations.

"Liberalism" is nothing more than a code word applied to people who don't conform to legalistic literalism. It weakens your argument and zaps your credibility.

So then it's our capitalistic beliefs that are martyring Christians in China. I'm glad you cleared that up for me.

That is not what Jack is saying at all, and I suspect you already know that.

Ah, yes, but at least he didn't use "liberal" or "heretic". There may be hope for the BB yet. ;)

 It is neither capitalistic, nor socialist, beliefs martyring Christians. However, as MP already said, I'm sure you already know communisim is not socialism.
