Hardest for me was CUSSING. All the kids with whom I grew up cussed, as did mosta the adults. The phrase "cuss like a sailor" isn't just a saying...everything is F this, F that, and more than one Japanese has been led to think that a certain other word is God's last name. Also, I was a master at inventing and telling dirty jokes, even making money for submitting some of them to certain 'comedians' of the early '70s.

BUT JESUS BROKE MY HABIT FOR ME! I could NEVER have done it on my own! For several years after salvation, I caught myself cussing to myself, if not out loud, when certain aggravations such as some dunderhead's poor driving judgment, upset me, despite my conscious effort not to. However, I immediately experienced a "conscience pang" whenever I did it... and during this time, I NEVER used God's name wrongly.

I have been "cuss-free" since the birth of my 1st son in 1983. PRAISE THE LLOORRDD!

What habit was hard for YOU to end?

Cracking my neck, knees and knuckles! Because of being taken to a chiropractor as a child, I developed that as a habit.

after an accident i was over prescribed hydrocodone, after 6 months of 10mg he looked at his chart, and said, oh man, you might have some withdrawl (an understatement), but you can't have anymore, i've accidently left you on this too long and need to cut you off (ppo). (this led to ^^^)

and coincidentaly (tho not really related, well maybe), after a car wreck last year, in the hospitol had me on morphine for a few days, and you know what, i did not eat for a month afterwards, of course i was quite swelled (i was home), and um hurt, but the rest of my family was fine (cuts and scrapes). we were on our way home from church (30 miles away), and a lady ran a stop sign, i took the brunt of it, i tell my kids, that "i am that real man of steal, you remember what that truck looked like after hitting me", won't drive again, guess i showed it.

    and many morrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrre.

Alcohol - 10 to 18 beers a day for to many years. Several inpatient treatments. Lot of time on knees. Broken marriage.. etc.... Delivered Oct 1980 in a split second by a loving God!!!!

Cigarettes 2 pk a day from age 15 to 47. Delivered August 1995.

Smokeless tabacco. Which I was goin to use for a few months to aid in stopping smoking.... I let ya know when I quit.

Cussing... In extreme circumstance can still speak South China Sea Sailor. I now refer to it as speaking in tounges. Don't know many people who have completely mastered this one.

Lottery.... Gambling in general... Can't say I have completely stopped, but seldom participate.

Gossip..... Too fine a line to call..... The best intentioned can be heard to say, "We need to pray for ole "so and so", I heard that......."

Unforgiveness.... I can still hold on to things for a short time til it dawns on me anew that the person I can't forgive is probably sleeping very well at night, or that the situation I can't accept was allowed by God to grow me up...

I could keep goin but I think ya get the general idea

Overall I'd say that I maintain the habits until God decides I've had enough and removes them.

Cursing is my worst habit too(other than talking to much). Not completely broken, that one. On bad days when I am stressed I'll catch myself(or the kids will  ) using ugly language. It doesn't help that T is a class A, number one foul language user and that both he and his Dad think it is cute to talk that way. It's an uphill battle.(The war is won btw [IMG] )

TomMann - I'm glad you listed unforgiveness. It really made me think. Anger and grudges really are bad habits.

Praise God for those of you that kicked physically addictive things in your life. I'm convinced that only God can save folks from those things.

To save them embarassment, I'd like to say that we've had a number of members delivered from homosexuality.

    You know,

One day our church handed out "post it notes" and pencils to everyone, and asked them to write down a sin they were struggling with in their life, then to pray to God for help in over coming that sin, and for forgiveness, and then to take that postit, no names on it, and go to the front of the church and attach that post it to a large wooden cross that was brought in for this. A very symbolic "laying your sin at Christ's feet," thing.

Afterwards, we were talking about it, and about what a strong effect it had on us. We all realize we have sins we need to confess, but we sometimes forget we aren't alone. We all see our sin as "worse" and yet, in God's eyes, they are all sins He can take from us. We all know He died for all sinners, yet, somehow, seeing that cross, where there was no piece of wood visible beneath the postits at the end, the power of His forgiveness was brought home.

    My first post too!

I was a big time druggy and I must admit the worse of ALL the drugs to quit, without a doubt, was NICOTINE. I quit Freebase, pot, cocaine, meth, LSD - the whole nine yards (just no needles)
